  1. I've caught them on a Bomber model A crankbait that runs around 6 ft deep when shad are busting the top. The TN Shad color has produced the best results for me.
  2. It has A LOT of standing timber (usually a creek channel that runs into the main lake), some coves with aquatic vegetation, points, and a lot of road beds. It's a creek channel lake. I've had some success fishing the shorelines around points and lay downs in the early morning but i'm targeting quality of quanity. Almost everyone is fishing the standing timber lately. I've caught some dinks in the timber but nothing that big. The primary forage is shad right now. Water temps are around 85-88. The depth finder shows the thermocline at approx 10 ft. Thanks in advance
  3. Hey guys i'm new to deep crankin and would like some tips if you don't mind. Where do you guys like using a deep cranking bait and what time of day? Drop offs, points, around timber? Also what colors usually produce the best? I have some bomber chart blue backs and BPS Ayu Shads but probably need to invest in some other deep cranking baits. Water is usually staind with a couple feet of visibility. Also what kind of retrieve should I use? I've seen ppl crank them fast to get to the desired depth and slow rolling them. I've also seen ppl fish them fast. I've never had much luck with crankbaits and always do good with plastics and jigs.
  4. How did it go buddy?

  6. Sorry I don't know much about the Mink Creek area. I just recently returned from a 5 day fishing trip from Lake Guntersville last week. I'll give what info I learned. I fished primarily around Lake Guntersville State Park, Goose Pond, and South Sauty. We fished approximately 5-8ft of water with hydrilla. Basically you will see it floating and get a strong reading from the fish finder (5' in the morning and fished a little deeper as the sun peaked then moved back to shallower water in the evenings). We caught the majority of our fish off of a Yum Dinger 6" in watermelon or watermelon with red flake. Carolina rigged with about a 15" leader, cast it out and let it sit for a few seconds. Raise the rod tip, reel it a couple times and let it drop to the bottom and wait a few seconds. I had the best results with that retrieve. I also was catching fish off of a Spook Jr. I'd walk it a few feet and let it sit for a couple seconds. I'm not sure if the fishing has changed since last week but I hope this helps. The talk was the spinnerbait bite was starting to pick up before we left. Also, a guy that runs the campground said people were doing GREAT off of live minnows. I didn't get a chance to try minnows because he told us as we were leaving. He said guys have been catching a lot of big ones off live minnows. Best of luck to you. Hope this helped. By the way, don't forget to try the Spook Jr.
