  1. When i'm in South Florida I fish alot out of a one man pontoon bass boat to get into all the out of the way canals. And yes Shane is right, I've had to put the trolling motor on high to escape gators! Also, be aware when fishing Lox or Big O from a bassboat. Gators will sometimes suspend right under and travel along with you. Always lift the bass in the boat withyour rod. Never put your hand in the water trying to lip a Bass! Gators will snap at the bass and your hands if your not careful. Hey, You gotta love South Florida! The playing field can sometimes get even! LOL
  2. I went through every spinnerbait I brought with me...none were repairable. Even a few jerk baits got thrashed! Yes I found out they do a "death roll" similar to gator's when they get close to the boat. I'll have to bring a "club" with me to knock them out to retrieve my bait like I see fisherman do on U-tube. I'm guessing that will kill them as well. And NO...no snakeheads at Lox. Just bass..........At least not yet I guess. What a difference a few years makes. 2 years ago, we caught peacocks galore and no snakeheads to speak of. A cold winter or two, peacocks die and snakeheads take over. Is South Florida in trouble?
  3. Just got back from South Florida yesterday. Fished Lox for 2 days. We got 30 fish one day and 27 the next. All small save for one 4#er. Wacky worms and senko's. Also fished various canals and ponds. The bass fishing not as good as last trip here but those snakeheads!...They are everywhere. My first time catching them. Even though it was fun catching them, I stoppped throwing spinnerbaits and rapala's cuz it got too expensive. I'm headed back to South Florida in 3 weeks. What is a cheaper way to catch these things?
  4. We fished Lox a few weeks ago and found the same. Lots of smaller bass but a few nice ones mixed in! Stable weather means good fishing. Too bad no pics.
  5. Fished Lox last Monday and Tuesday. I hadn't been there in awhile. We totaled 135 lm's up to 6 1/2 for the two days. Stayed most of the time in the south western flats and wacky wormed the sawgrass edges. Caught a bunch fishing along the thicker hydrilla edges in open water as well. Even caught a few with Kaitech swim grubs. The biggest bass came from the southern rim canal. Had a great time getting my string streched and my arm sore. Thanks to Don C and his 250 Ranger for taking me out.
  6. Hay Buckeye...just got back from Myrtle Beach last nite. Got to fish for a couple of hours. I only caught one LM but at least he was 3 lbs. My camera misfunctioned so no pic. Don't know water temp. Caught that fish on a blade bait along some pilings that were in the sun. It was close to 70° yesterday. Good Luck
  7. I own a condo in Myrtle Beach and have bass fished the area for a few years. I've never fished golf course ponds there but have in Florida and New York. I suggest you wait till afternoon when the sun is highest in the sky and fish the sunny bank. I would use a blade bait like the BPS lazer blade or a rattle trap type bait. They are great reaction baits and even in very cold water work well.
  8. Just returned from Deerfield and Pompono beach. Fishing canals and res ponds in 3 days caught 82 LM's one bowfin and first ever Oscar. Mostly on swim grubs and t-rig worms. Not a one Peacock as I expected anyway. How far into spring can I expect to start getting bit by them?
  9. I'm headed back to Deerfield Beach, Florida next week. Has the Peacock bass fishing improved? When I was there this past Christmas time, caught many LM's but no Pea's.
  10. Thanks South and Addict.
  11. Just returned to South Carolina from my annual South Florida Christmas vacation trip to visit family. Got away to do a few days of bass fishing in the Deerfield Beach area. Caught over 50 LM Bass. No peacocks to my disappointment. Interestingly, the water temp continuously dropped from 64° to 58° in just a few days...that didn't seem to bother the LM's much but the Pea's were nonexistant! Also saw two fry clouds...could some LMBass have spawned already? Or were they some other species? Anyway, great time. All bass were nice footballs. I love Florida fishing. Going back in February. here's some pics:
  12. I remember last year, because of the cold weather, there was a large fish kill in South Florida. Peacocks, Tilapia, Tarpon, Snook etc. I'm traveling there in two weeks. Has that situation recovered? Was it as big a problem as I heard about? Did it have any impact on the fishing this year?
