Cubs Vs Pirates Predictions
Arietta was hit on the rear end. It was not a career ending shot. Up and in is a very different thing. I wonder how you would feel in Pittsburgh's place? It's all about perspective. Hitting a pitcher in the *"¥ who has already come up and in to two batters is criminal? Grow up cubby.

Cubs Vs Pirates Predictions
C and G I don't care if Arietta hit anyone intentionally or not. After you drill the second guy you have crossed the line. I think hitting the pitcher who has done the hitting is exactly the right thing to do. Why should he be untouchable? Arietta should have taken the base and kept his mouth shut. His actions are what caused the situation and escalated it. Getting a key player hurt in a stupid fight could cost a championship. That would be a sorry end to the Cubs season. Just one more in a long line of failures.

Cubs Vs Pirates Predictions
I don't blame the Pirates for drilling Arieta. They hit him in the backside. He came up and in, hitting two Cubs. It was a measured response. He should have just taken the base and moved on. You can argue it wasn't intentional on Arieta's part. Not likely. Part of the game IMO. No harm, no foul. It was a tough way for a 97 game winner to end their season, and in a 5 or 7 game series the results might be different. Arieta's performance was incredible though and Chicago deserved the win.

Cubs Vs Pirates Predictions
I agree that one game is a coin toss. I also agree with giving incentive to win the division, but I am not sure what we have is the best answer. The three best records (and maybe the best teams) in baseball being in the same division complicates things. I think there will be adjustments next year. Whether they are for the best remains to be seen. I'm still agrevated about lowering the mound and the designated hitter...

Chili Cook-Off Results
I love hot foods. If chilli doesn't make you sweat and your nose run, it probably isn't hot enough. With that said, there are some limits. I once had some salsa in Houston that was made with ghost peppers. No thanks!

Cubs Vs Pirates Predictions
I am a fan of both teams, although I am a life-long Cardinals fan. Either team will test the Cards in the divisional series. I think a Cubs v Cardinals series would be great for both cities. Go Cubs!

The Wife And The Baitcaster
My wife quickly learned to use a baitcaster mainly because she didn't like the the limitations of spincasters and doesn't care for spinning reels. She does very well, except close in. She is working on pitching, but has not mastered it yet. Show her how to set up and adjust her reel, and how to cast. If she is committed to learning, she will be fine. Give her a budget and help her choose something you both like...

What Is This Mystery Lever?
I have a similar lever on my Honda 4 Stroke. As already mentioned, it is a fast idle lever.

Rod Experts Every Rod Is Different
Catt I clicked on and read your link, in addition to 14 others. In practical application it is strictly semantics IMO. There does seem to be a distinction in older literature but I can find no real differences in modern manufacturing. Edit: Catt as I investigate further, it becomes clear that the carbon fiber that begins with graphite can be a higher modulus than that which derives its carbon from other sources. I am not sure any of this is relevant to fishing rods, but it has been an interesting Sunday afternoon project!

Rod Experts Every Rod Is Different
Catt if you do a comprehensive search, you will find that in spite of marketing claims and various terms and descriptions, my post is accurate. Graphite fiber and carbon fiber are one and the same. It is graphite bonded it longer strands.

Rod Experts Every Rod Is Different
I almost posted something like this, only less helpful and more snarky. Thanks for saying this in a less judgemental way. Bill while there is no industry standard, there is consistency among some of the better manufacturers, especially within model lines. Graphite is bonded in a way that makes it a good material for pencils or lubricant, but not fishing rods. Carbon fiber is graphite bonded in longer strands that make it useful for many more applications. Google is a very useful resource...

Dumb Question Sorry But I Gots To Ask
Philo if all posts that were silly, dumb, or off topic were deleted there would be a lot less to read here. My post count would be much lower. It's all good.

Bed Fishing Beds For Bass Are Weak Anglers
Aldo that is quite a first post. You may be the best bass fisherman no one has ever heard of...or not. Your shoulder may be damaged, but your ego is certainly unharmed. Maybe you're just trolling...only time will tell. As far sight fishing is concerned, some feel strongly on both sides of the issue. Tournament fishing in general is a source of stress to many anglers and fish. We have discussed these things here many times. If you have something to add to the conversation, we welcome your thoughts; if you just want to tell us how good you are and stir the pot, not so much.

Calling All Reel Experts
I would disassemble it and put it back together according to the schematic. If you don't have one you might be able to find one online. Without a drawing or a detailed video, box it up and send it to Mike at DVT. He is a site sponsor, skilled mechanic, and a trusted source of information. He will probably be along soon. Good luck.

Glass Vs Graphite
A glass rod matched with a crank of the proper weight will cast at least as far as any graphite rod.

Way to go with the weight loss! "Eat smart, train hard and do cardio" is the magic bullet people are looking for; most are looking for something a little easier though.

Slim4Life
An interesting article. For me it supports my conclusion that while there is more than one way of fueling the body, there are nutritional requirements that must be met to keep it performing properly. Less meals mean more attention must be paid to insure these requirements are met. The last paragraph of the article sums it up very well: Long-term adherence to a well thought out plan is what works. Thanks for the link.

Gardnerjigman it sounds like you are doing a lot of things right! If an old fat guy like me can do it, most anyone can! Keep up the good work. It is easy to get discouraged. This is a long-term process... A marathon, not a sprint. PM if you want to howl at the moon or eat a couple of dozen doughnuts. Good luck.

Bait Monkey Bit Me
Bill although the tone of an interweb conversation can be hard to figure, I think what is being said is the advances in reels over the last few years makes the older stuff primitive by comparison. Not that there's anything wrong with that! The reels I use on a regular basis are sill functional, but there are many newer ones that are much better for very reasonable prices. If you want to collect US Reels or anything else, more power to you. If superior quality at reasonable prices is your goal the newer reels are light years ahead of most of the older ones.
