  1. Quite a bit has been written on this forum about sidescan and downscan so I don't want to re-invent the wheel. I would just like to mention a few things you may want to consider if you are thinking about getting a new LSS-1 unit. I have an HDS8 on the console and an HDS7 on the front of the boat. When I purchased my LSS-1 unit I went through Anchor Express and got a little better price than you see at most sites. I installed the LSS-1 unit myself and the only problem you will have is just getting the cables run in the gunwale of your boat ...since most are pretty tight areas. Just take your time and you should be able to do the installation with no real problems. Lowrance rep Todd Driscoll recommended that I install a toggle switch so that I can turn the LSS-1 unit off and on and that is good advice. (run the yellow wire to the toggle switch). I didn't want to drill a hole for the toggle switch on my Nitro .. so I just put it under the front console ..up along the steering column area (with cable ties) and it is out of sight and easy to reach when I want to use it. You will need an additional 15' E-Net cable to run from the LSS-1 unit to your front depth finder. You will love having these two units "linked" because when you add, mod, delete waypoints on one unit it automatically does it to the other. Even though I tried a Transducer Shield and Saver mount ... I wound up using the Lowrance mount that came with the unit. I put my transducer on the bottom side of the jack plate and it is working just fine. I am not getting any interference when running both units, running my MotorGude trolling motor or starting the engine. The LSS-1 opens up an entriely new area of fishing and it has already been lot's of fun. Just don't plan on catching all of the fish in the lake when you first get the unit because unlike the established 2-d sonar this is a different world to learn. Good Luck to you all -- JB
