  1. Frog Big ez on owner beast 3/4 oz jig Punch rig Texas rig worm
  2. I fish from a kayak so I have a max of 6 rods. I always have stuff tied on that covers the top, middle, and bottom water columns. Currently my favorites are a frog, weedless drop shot, weightless sinkin shad, heavy jig, punch rig, texas rig, and spinnerbait.
  3. Caught a dozen or so bass in northern Indiana on a topwater frog on Friday. One of them even pooped out an ewg hook that I was easily able to remove the rest of the way.
  4. I used rhino racks on my Mazda 6 for hauling a 12 foot and a 10 foot kayak. One was flat and the other was on thule j racks. The equipment was kind of pricey but we made 4 hour road trips each year to either door county or st clair so it was worth it. Never had issues.
  5. The webinars by Josh Douglas and Seth Feider are great informational videos.
  6. I think the first significant decrease in temp relative to a small decrease in depth indicates the thermocline. So somewhere between 15' and 20'.
  7. I'm new to jig fishing so I wanted to give some a try so I bought a couple grass jigs and fogies from Siebert. With good success I just made my second order last night to try the brush heads and punchin jigs. Yesterday I used a 3/4 ounce grass jig with a pit boss trailer and a fogy bladed jig with a skinny dipper trailer and was catching a lot of northern on the edges of thick hydrilla. Here's one with a weird little pose for ya lol.
  8. If you are patient you might be able to find a good deal on the more expensive kayaks but it might take a while. I was able to get a pescador 12 angler for $390 on amazon a couple years ago, but it isn't one that you can stand comfortably in. I can easily load it by myself once I figured the technique on how to lift it. For customization I change things up every now and then based on my tastes, and it is hard to say what you will like until you try it. For the anchor I just put a 5lb weight from my workout area tied to a floating rope and it works when I need it. Most of the time I don't anchor, but I carry it anyway juts in case. I have a milk crate with 3 rod holders made from PVC pipe and I keep all my stuff in there so it is easy to get to. All of my plastics are kept in their original bags so I don't have to open a tackle box every time. Pliers and scissors are kept in my life jacket. I agree with Mr. Scrogg about the vertical poles getting in the way at times. I tend to cast over my right shoulder so I keep that side of my rod holders empty, and put both of my non-used rods on the left side. If i am switching between poles often I keep them in front of me like scrogg does and it's not bad at all. I built the fish finder stuff on my own and use a triple scotty mount when i bring my fishfinder with me. I can troll using the scotty mount as well, but I only use this setup with the fish finder. Otherwise I leave all of that at home.
  9. I have a friend that lives in Calumet City so I pass through there a lot. Thanks for the tip. I actually just read a forest preserve report that says the walleye in Tampier are pretty big. I haven't fished there since I was a kid.
  10. Hi all, I'm from Posen which is a south suburb of Chicago. I've been shore fishing for a while, but just got a kayak this past weekend. It's extremely fun and is a ton easier to locate fish. The pic is from powderhorn caught on a spinner bait. Caught a handful of northern, too, but no size to them. Anyone have other suggestions on where to take the yak? I'm thinking about learning wolf lake and busse. My main shore fishing lake was Heidecke but I can't take my kayak there. Trying to get as much fishing in before I start teaching again. -S
