  1. Hey all, I headed down to Lake Whitney for a week. I only have a small boat so I will be limited in the water I can cover but what baits are working currently down there or what areas/depth should I be focusing on? I'm headed down on Sunday, the 21st. thanks for any tips
  2. thanks, the tubes I use have a bit more tentacle length it seems, so that could be my hang up too
  3. Hmm I have found the 3/0 is too big for the 2.75 in tube, the 2/0 is ok but not ideal
  4. Here's a question for you tube guys. What jig head do you guys use on the bitsy tube size (2.75 in). I have yet to find a jighead I am satisfied with. I like to fish them on 1/8 heads but have a hard time finding a hook size that is not too big or too small.
  5. I have fished Duck, Green, and Long before but that was in a bass boat. Those are probably bigger than I can effectively fish in a canoe. I have been on Portage before but it has been 10 years at least, If I recall it looked like it should have a good bass population but I don't remember us doing all that well. Thanks for the map link! I have been using googlemaps to look at smaller lakes but sometimes it is hard to see if there is an access site.
  6. I will be heading up for a week in mid July. Any smaller lakes/rivers that I should try for bass? I will only have a canoe so big lake might be a bit much. I am staying south of TC in Frankfort but driving is not a problem. thanks for the help. matt
  7. Thanks for all the responses
  8. Hey all, I will be vacationing in GA with my extended family this summer. Both Allatoona and Lanier look to be fairly close, which should I get a guide on for Spotted bass? Also any recommendations on guides? Probably will be me and my brother-in-law going fishing. Thanks
  9. Anyone been to Melvern lately? I am heading there next week with my brother in law. Any info is appreciated. Is spawn over? We went once last summer but it was right in the middle of that 2 week stretch where it was 100+ every day. Thanks
  10. I understand exactly what you were trying to say Forgive me if I have offended you its the stat/logic geek in me that your original statement perked my ears
  11. How would you know? If you don't detect it how would you know how many bites you are missing? Just a some food for thought about the way we all phrase things...
  12. anyone fished La Cynge lately? I am headed over to my bro in-law's(olathe) on Friday and we are going to fish somewhere. I live in Columbia, MO so not sure what lakes are "hot" right now over there.
  13. I see that La Cygne is way down, is it still possible to launch a boat there? I may be heading there on Friday but didn't want to waste the trip if I cant get in. Thanks
  14. Right now I would fish docks back in the creeks/coves. It changes day to day where the fish and shad will position. I would fish the 1st, last and any unusual docks. Crankbaits down the sides of docks will work well also try to swim a jig down the sides as well. Flipping and pitching seems to always pick up a few fish as well. Good luck
  15. hey all We are heading up farther north than normal on the Mississppi due to a couple of tournaments on pool 10 and 11. Anyone got a recent fishing report for pool 9? What is the mix of smallies vs. largemouth? Any areas we should definitely hit? Also is there a boat ramp in Guttenberg, IA? that would be the closest ramp to us. Thanks
  16. Fished Melvern Wednesday AM (5:30-8:30) only had 2 fish both on medium diving crankbaits but the wind was crazy and we were limited to where we could fish. Fished Thursday AM and did a little better ended up with 6 fish. 2 topwater 2 on cranks and 2 on a jig. Nothing amazing but I see the potential to catch fish there in non sauna conditions. Thanks for the info.
  17. Any of you guys been to Melvern in the past week or so? I'm heading there tomorrow, Wednesday, and thursday. Just wondering what depth the fish were at.

  19. Thanks for the info. Are there any "community" holes we should start at to get an idea of where the fish are?
  20. Anyone know where to get a topographical map of Melvern? I am heading there in two weeks with my bro in-law. First time there for both of us.
  21. Quick question for you guys? I know Yo Zuri Hybrid is a co-polymer line. Does it float or sink? Also is UltraSoft any different in regards to floating or sinking? Thanks
  22. It wouldn't surprise me if after he was done fishing he admits he cheats That is the only logical explainable answer I can come up with. The guy is unbelievable. Its one thing to have an area that has better quality fish to yourself and win. Its entirely different to be sharing that same water with 2 or 3 other top notch anglers and still whip them which he has done 2 years in a row. The guy is magic
  23. If I had one bait to take up there it would be a Rapala J9 or J11 in gold. I know it is not nearly as pretty as some of the newer baits but it is killer on early season Smallies up there.
  24. But Shimano has a much better track record with low profile reels. Abu's calling has been round reels and in the past Abu has put out some awful low profile reels.
  25. Amen brother! What a vast majority of the bass fishing world doesn't get is that the drag systems working in connection with the flex of your rod. If you max out a drag on a reel between 8 -10 lbs of pressure you can pull line directly off the reel with a bit of effort. Now take that same reel and put the line through guides in a rod and pull against the flex of the rod and the drag (simulates real world use) it is much, much harder to do. The 24 lbs of drag sounds impressive but unfortunately that amount of drag has little real world bass fishing application.
