  1. I 2nd the notion that I like the Smoke PT more. I have a Smoke PT100 and I absolutely love it. I did have to add a little bit of oil to smooth it out a bit, but after that I have had no issues what so ever. Smooth cast, one of the smoothest retrieves I have ever felt, it never bird nests, strong drag, feather light, very easy to dial in. I am not talking down on Shimano though. Both reels are great. If you want to save a little money get the Shimano, but if you aren't concerned then try a Smoke PT.
  2. It's hard to pin a favorite reel for almost every avid fisherman. There are so many good reels at great prices. I learned to throw a baitcaster on a Pinnacle. It was big and bulky, birdnests a lot, and had a very weak drag/brake system, but hey I got it for free and it made me a better baitcast caster now. Since then I have owned or own Abu Garcia Orra SX, Bass Pro Shops Carbonlite and Pro Qualifier, and the Quantum Smoke PT100. For my spinning reel I own a Browning Medallion. I have no complaints about any of the reels.
  3. This is a hearty hello from Fresno, CA! If you have a chance to fish here there are 4 good lakes to choose from! Millerton Lake, Pine Flat Lake, Hensley Lake, and Eastman Lake! Come check them out and let me know how you did!
  4. One of the biggest reasons why I fish baitcasters right hand retrieve is the fact that I tried casting all day with a left hand retrieve, and by the end of the day my right arm was dead from casting and setting the hook. Your right arm is doing all the work. I started paying more attention to the way a lot of pros fish as well and most of them fish right hand retrieve baitcasters. So I tried it and now I love it. I use left hand retrieve for spinning but right hand for baitcasters. Been fishing bass tournaments for 2 years now.
  5. Yes I would say carp. In Fresno, that happens a lot at certain lakes. Most carp here will fully jump out of the water. Usually if you see carp, there are no bass to be found. A popular bait to use here is Nabisco shredded wheat, either plain or strawberry. Wet the cereal and it clumps like peanut butter. Then roll into little balls and put in a very small hook. I like to catch carp but not keep them. They feel like a rock when you hook one!
