It's been a really slow 2012 for me, This is actually the first fish I've caught this year. Caught in Canadaway Creek in Western NY. Caught on a 4" Frog colored poor boy tube. I was given a brand new berkley lightning rod 6' Medium Heavy casting rod. I would like to know a good baitcasting reel for a beginner and also what type of application this rod would be best for.

Get the ice fishing gear out. I plan on doing some perch fishing once the lake freezes over

Happened to my buddy. Trolling for walleye, had one in the net trying to unhook, it flopped around and the treble got stuck in his thumb. He cut it off and went to the ER to have them remove the barb.

As of late... weightless baby brush hog in green watermelon texas rigged on a 3/0 EWG hook.

Thank you for the advice and welcomes. I went out tonight with a different plan. I put away the tubes and bought two packages of zoom baby brush hogs. One pack watermelon red, the other pack green pumpkin. I tried a bunch of combos until weightless texas rigged green pumpkin started to hit. To my original question, I believe that I was just being nibbled by sunfish.

It seems that a fish will take my lure, I will wait a second or two for it to take the bait in its mouth then i try to set the hook and it FLINGS out. Been using a 1/16th oz worm weight with a 4/0 EWG hook on 4" tubes texas rigged. Even though its supposed to be weedless I am getting caught on major weed clumps.

Hello, I am relatively new to fishing. I had a 5'6" light rod and I could land small mouth easily with texas rigged 4" tubes. It broke and I bought a 7' medium pflueger combo and I cant seem to land anything. Something will bite the same exact tube I had on my previous rod/reel and I cannot get the hook up. It will just fling out of the fish's mouth.
