I've been wondering about how to find the different types of forage in a lake, mostly baitfish. The only thing I've come up with is to get a throw net and just see what I catch. I know there has got to be a better way. I ask other bass fisherman fishing the same lakes to see if they know, and most of them tell me what they know no problem. However I like to see things for myself. So if anybody out there has a good tip/technique for catching and finding out the baitfish I could sure use it. Thanks

This is just a suggestion and a little unorthodox. But, if they are suspended and inactive alot of times I'll throw on a lipless crank and cast it as far as I can past them, then burn it right threw the middle of them jokers and sometimes they'll just slam it. It doesn't work all the time, I wouldn't even say most of the time, but i have caught several that way. Throwing it past em gives them time to hear it coming. Its what I like to call a "Fingers Crossed Last Resort" technique that I use alot when things get boring. It can sometimes entice the reaction strike.

I've been reading some books on locating bass and keep running in to this Thermocline thing. The authors all stress the importance of it but never really explain it. I was wondering if anyone out there could explain it in terms i can understand. Thanks

What do ya'll think about Lews reels? Would that be a good one for punching, i had my eye on one earlier.

Veritas hands down, very light and a great all around rod. 6'6" M

I have been wanting to get a setup for punching. What would you recommend as a good rod/reel combo? I was thinking about an Abu Garcia vendetta heavy action rod but have no idea on a good baitcaster to go with it, any ideas, tips, and info you can share would be great.

I'm ignorant in the ways of the Carolina rig.All i throw is Texas rigs and I was wondering what is the purpose of it and are there situations where it could be used to greater effect than a Texas rig?
