  1. I'm thinking of trying braid for the first time on two of my baitcasters. One is.a 7' medium fast loomis glx with a curado 50e and the other is a 7'med hvy xfast dobyns dx703c with a curado 200e. I will be throwing only baits under 1 oz in pretty light cover. I was thinking of trying 30 pound power pro with a fluoro leader in really clear water. Do you think I will have any problems with lures snapping off during casts with the 30lb line?
  2. I've got a curado 50e and a 200e and in my experience the 50e casts lighter baits better but as someone said above you have to match it with the right rod. Mine is on a loomis glx medium fast. I use it for weightless plastics mostly.
  3. Just to let you guys know. I ended up getting the curado 200e7 for $100 and a curado 300e for $175. I love craigslist lol.
  4. So no one knows for sure if there are any differences between the two?
  5. I have the opportunity to purchase last years Shimano Curado 200E7 for $100 or a this years Chronarch 200E7 for $130. Both are brand new. I hear there is no difference between the two. What would you guys choose?
  6. I cast with my right, reel with my left on both spinning and baitcasting gear. Also, with baitcasting gear, I palm the reel while I cast. I three fingers holding the reel in front of the rod trigger, pinky behind the trigger. My ring finger kinda grips the trigger too. Thumb is in the normal palming position. Thus there is no switching or adjusting of my right hand during the cast or retrieve. Some might argue that I could loose casting distance holding the rod that way, but I have not noticed any difference in casting distance. That being said, its all personal preference. The fish don't know or care which hands you are using for what.
  7. If you are referring to my post, I don't underestimate anyone, I am just saying from my experience and the other posts here, people who are not courteous to others usually reap what they sow. Skunk-reapers
  8. I know how you guys feel. I cannot afford to buy or rent a boat so I do all my fishing from shore. I fish diamond valley lake here in so cal a lot and every time I'm out I get the guys in their fully loaded bass boats trolling right through my casting space. Never do they say anything to me, they just hang right there! It's funny though, they always seem to get skunked while I'm always catching fish. Fish can sense kooks......lol
  9. Heading to laughlin mid September. I wanna do some fishing for largies and maybe smallies if they can be caught from shore. Anyone have any advice on some good spots? thanks!
  10. Research as much as you can online, techniques, tackle, bass biology, and equipment. Get out and fish! Practice, talk to other anglers in your area. Join a bass club. If you live near so cal pm me and maybe we can meet up and fish. I'm no pro but I can catch fish from time to time.
  11. I am looking for a bass club as well. I found one called bass contenders in san Dimas. They meet the first Wednesday of every month at michealangelos pizza in san dimas. Im gonna check it out in September
  12. Check your drag if its too loose the spool will not turn.
  13. Just to let you guys know I went with a dobyns dx 703 c and a shimano curado 201e7. Took it out to puddingstone yesterday and I must say I like it a lot. Of course I had a few backlashes being my first time using a baitcaster, but it was fun. I even landed a nice lmb, my first ever out of that lake. Thanks again for all the suggestions
  14. Ya, after going back and forth I decided to limit my budget to around $300. I don't need a $500 reel. I'm thinking a dobyns rod and either a shimano curado or a lews tournament pro for a reel. Probably gonna wait until labor day to try and get a discount. I plan to practice casting I my @$$ off, even when I'm not fishing. I'm a guitar player and their was a period in my life where I practiced for 8 hours a day everyday, I was obsessed. Now I'm obsessed with fishing! Thanks for all the suggestions guys!
  15. I know of a shop where I can handle a dobyns, does anyone know of a shop in so cal where I can handle a kistler?
  16. Ok dobyns it is, I'm considering the daiwa steeze only if I can get a discount because that is a lot of money for a reel. Other reels I'm considering are the shimano core, curado, daiwa zillion, and I saw a couple of mentions of the abu Garcia revo premier, anyone else have any opinions on this reel?
  17. @basscalRy: Haha that's what I was thinking. Seriously, dobyns and kistler are around the same price, now I'm torn between those two. So far most of you say dobyns, have any of you tried a kistler also?
  18. Ok, after driving myself crazy trying to figure out what to get, I have decided to increase my budget to $600, would you guys still recommend getting a Dobyns extreme and using the rest of the money toward a better reel than the curado? Or should I look at an even higher quality rod and still get the curado?
  19. Did some research on Dobyns and saw that they are made in Korea. You guys that fish them seem to be pretty happy with them. Has anyone ever had any quality control issues with them?
  20. Thanks everyone for all your suggestions, I think I'm gonna go with the Shimano Curado for reels. As far as rods, I cant decide between the St Croix Avid, Duckett, and Falcon Cara T7. Man this is difficult.........more suggestions welcomed
  21. Hmmm, those Ducketts seem pretty cool, are they made in the USA? How do they compare with the St. Croix Avid series?
