Loxahatchee Federal Perserve, Saturday 4/30/16
Sounds like a fun day. I haven't been fishing in a while, argh..lol. I've been wanting to hit up the Holiday flats before the water drops back to normal levels. I used a drift sock before but it wasn't as effective as I needed it to be. I tried different length rope, tied it off to different spots but no different. Although I'm sure it was user error. I assume no news is good news with the vultures?

New from Cape Coral, Florida
Welcome to the forum. I use to live in Cape Coral. There are plenty of freshwater as well as saltwater spots to wet a line! What made you move down to FL?

Gators N' Kayaks
I think the gator heard the noise or vibrations of an animal and pin pointed where it was coming from. Then launched an attack going right to the noise but was unable to ****** it... Ya, it definitely looks crazier in slow-mo..

Fiberglass vs. Aluminum hull pros/cons
I normally don't recommend aluminum (even though I own one) but in your situation, I would recommend it. I think with the small water your going to fish and pulling it with a CRV and being your first boat for you and the family, aluminum would be the way to go. Check E-bay for boats (that you can visually inspect in person) in your surrounding area. Take your time and don't settle and you should find one just right..

Buying 1st Aluminum Boat (20k Budget)....Help
For 20k, I would be buying a much better boat than a tracker 175. Unless your dead set on Aluminum, i would look into a fiberglass like others suggested..

Nearby Nightlife when fishing Big O
How many days are you staying down for? Is it a fishing trip with just 1 night out? Ft. Myers beach is not a bad spot at all, especially if that's where you fly into. Are you staying out by the lake at all or a day trip? Only stay if fishing more than one day cause there is like ZERO night life except roland martin marina/bar.If you really want to hit the latest and greatest spot, it would be Margaitaville, which just open in Hollywood FL and its directly on the beach side. There is a boardwalk there as well..

Florida river fishing
Around the I-75 and Caloosahatchee river would be considered more brackish then freshwater as the rivers leads out to the ocean. There are definitely big Snook tarpon reds jacks etc. in there but the release of polluted lake O water does not help the fishery. It might be why you dont see as many boats as expected. Like Davecon said the further east up the river towards lake O is where the bass are more populated, less salinity..
