  1. Have a BPS carbonlite that I really enjoy for light lures, then my recently purchased Quantum smoke SL151hpt is by far my favorite
  2. Thanks a lot guys for following up! Definitely going to go with the MH Extra Fast tip then. And since a fellow raider fan approves the reel I will be pairing it up with the rod Thanks guys!
  3. Thank you all for the input! Considering Abu Garcia rod against the Shimano Cumara 7'2" MH with extra fast tip. For the reel a 7:3:1 Quantum Smoke sl151hpt. Any advice?
  4. Considering putting this on my Shimano cumara 7'2" MH rod that I plan to use for jigs and soft plastics. Anybody use this reel? If so how is it? I purchased it for $218 with tax but I still have the recipt so I can return it. Im picking up my cumara rod tonight at bass pro and got this reel at sportsmans warehouse.
  5. Thanks so far for the input! I forgot to mention the price range. Id like to stay under or around the $350 mark
  6. Ok so I have 1 baitcaster. Its the BPS carbonlite 6'6" M with fast action tip. The reel is the carbonlite baitcaster with Ball Bearings: 7+1 Drag: 8 Lbs. Reel Weight (oz.): 6.7 Recovery: 29" Per Turn and 6:4:1 ratio. I use that with 20 or 30# braid and do all types of fishing from jigging to cranking. I have a spinning rod for real light tackle such as dropshot and wacky. I am going to buy myself a new setup and I want it to be different. I just dont know which way I should go either a heavty duty rig for big jigs and baits and leave the carbonlite for light cranking and small baits or if I should get something similar. Its hard to explain but I feel my current setup is a happy medium for all kinds of fishing. What I want to do now is purchase something on either end of the spectrum. Please list your suggestions such as rod length, action, etc.. and prefered reel specs as well as what type of fishing it would be good for. (jigging, spinning, crankbaits, etc) If you know the rod/reel brand name and model that would be even more helpful! Thanks in advance and happy holidays!
  7. Ok I am officially hooked on braid I love it. I use 20 or 30#. My first question is, what is the best baitcast reel for braid? I heard some have a "crossover" retrieve which wont allow the line to dig in the spool? ( I dont have much of a problem with that just put mono backing on instead, however if there is a reel like this anyone have the details? It is christmas time ) My second question is to those who use 50+# line...what the heck do you do when you get snagged? I can barely break 30# and it has cut me many times!
  8. Thanks for all the great info ! Exactly what I was looking for
  9. So lately I have been fishing jigs religiously but with several cold fronts passing through the bite has slowed down signifiantly and I have been producing few fish. However the other day I had a 2 1/2lber on a jig with a hook that I sharpened extensively. When I went to lip him he jerked his head and I pushed my thumb right onto the hook. Ouch! Just curious if anyone else has a similar story. Just never ever see the pros get hooked. Even when they are using trebbles.
  10. ohhhh! is that what thats for! lol Doh!!! Im an idiot I will look at it next time instead of just throwing it out haha wow thank you
  11. So lately I have been using the Rage Tail craw. I Thought it was just another "fad" if you will. (my first time ever throwing a Rage craw was at 11pm and I was smelling a skunk but I said to my buddy "I guess I want to see what the rage is all about" in somewhat of an "un-believer" tone, wouldnt you know it that very cast I landed a 3lb 10.oz bucketmouth from my local city lake) But after catching a fish almost every single trip on a Rage Craw now, no matter how cold or wacky the weather is I am a FIRM believer. However I was wondering what is the science behind the coffee scent? Do fish really like coffee? Call me weird but personally I love the smell when I open up my jig box and I can smell the RAGE! Also what are some other ways to rig the Rage trailers besided behind a standard skirted jig? I recently bought a single pack of every type of Rage bait I could find on black friday. From Toads (no idea how to rig those lol) to single tail grubs. Any insight would be greately appreciated!
  12. Wow I am surprised at all the inputs! Great information guys and gals, thanks! keep it up!
  13. Just a poll out of curiosity. No need for your *secret rig* or anything (unless u want to share ) just in general
  14. Thanks for the tips and advice guys! Happy to hear mr channel cat will be ok and yes next time I will definitely bring some sort of pliers even if I am just testing my equipment
  15. I tried to grab him by the lip but he was chewin on the senko and did NOT want to open up lol and I think i heard somewhere they can crush your finger if you put them in there mouth? is that true or a myth?
  16. Yeah it was a cheapo jig I think about 2$ The skirt was slightly torn but the weed guard was bent completely out of whack and the senko trailer was ripped through about 2 inches lol and no I didnt have pliers I just wanted to feel what my new setup would feel like and was only casting for about an hour in a lake where I havent caught anything before so it was totally unexpected. But glad to know I dont think I killed him it was a really fun fight!
  17. So after a stop at bass bro shops I stopped by the local city lake on the way home to try my new braided line/jig w/senko trailer combo. On one of my last casts I thought I hit a snag but turned out to be (my*) largest catfish I have ever caught! (4lbs 3ozs..might of been more i didnt get a good weigh because i didnt know where to hook it lol ) I never fish for these creatures but the way it was tugging and ripping my line out I knew it wasnt a bass. But keep in mind I know very little to NONE about catfish other than they are good eating. So my 2 Questions are 1. What type of catfish is this? See attachment* 2. When I was trying to remove my jig (that was nearly destroyed) from its solid uper jaw and kung foo death grip, I felt I was taking a lot of protective slime coating off of the fish. When I was finally able to relase it about 5 minutes later it swam away just fine. But I am wondering if anyone knows if he will be ok or if I may have killed it cause now it doesnt have any slime left? I hate killing fish unless I am going to eat them
  18. I faced that problem for a long time. I got the BPS lure retriever for 7 or 8 $? It saved a coupple of my 10$ and 12$ lures a coupple times by stretching the line really tight and letting the weight go all the way to the bait then by raising and lowering my rod. It worked some times and it paid for it self the first day. But in Arizona most snags are big rocks so its probably a little easier to break it loose. I now use a boat so I havent faced that issue much. Now the problem is getting a lure out of a tree thats on shore!
  19. Not from parker but I have fished almost every body of water in AZ lol including the CO river, if you have a ? maybe I could help but I am far from an expert
  20. haha thanks everyone for the inputs! glad to know im not the only one that comes up empty now and then
  21. So I have been trying out this new lake which is known for larger bass but low catch rates. I seem to be getting skunked about 45-50%% of the time. I am just wondering how often you guys get skunked? Some times I feel like I am the only one that can go out on the lake and not catch a fish, especially after having high hopes after watching some YouTube videos on tips and tricks lol
  22. ok great I will do that. Thanks a lot for the help!
