  1. If I was on a school of perch that size I'd probably catch a meal, then move on. For the record, I've caught perch on larger baits such as 3/4 oz spinnerbaits and size 13 rapalas. There's no tap, tap with those kind of baits, all you can really do is set the hook and see what it is, thats part of the fun of fishing.
  2. SW Michigan. Thats only on Mondays, though, otherwise its $14. The small town theaters are much cheaper than the multiplex's in the city, but your viewing options are more limited.
  3. Well I'll admit to going to the store his brother own a few times hoping to see some cool special KVD lure or something. A prototype he was looking to get rid of or a custom color, just something you couldn't find elsewhere. It was always a flop, he doesn't even have the greatest selection of strike king baits lol.
  4. We just go to the local theater where its $11 for two tickets, two cokes, and a large popcorn with free refills
  5. I fish cranks quite a bit and do well with SK baits. I don't believe their QC is quite as good as the other mid range priced baits, but they work. I just end up throwing away a few more of them than the others. I can't compare them to LC baits as I don't fish them. I went to pick up some this spring and the guy at the tackle store kind of talked me out of it, but its been my observation that if a more subdued action seems to be working they (SK baits) probably aren't going to do well.
  6. Was it a bottle or a McDonald's cup?
  7. So, more to the point, I'm not totally off my rocker in thinking these minor variations matter and there is more to structure fishing than a prominent point on a TVA reservoir? I mean, I believe there are more weeds in the average 500 acre lake near me than there are in the entire 30,000 acres of Dale Hollow, and thats all the cover the fish really have to relate to, with little obvious structure. Make it as complex or simple as you want, its really just a matter of trying to make the areas I target as defined as possible in the attempt to get the best return out of my limited time on the water. Or thats how I look at it.
  8. I thought witch hazel was a generic plant extract, not a name brand
  9. Energy drinks are one thing I will not touch. Between the caffeine, sugar, and various herbal supplements they put in them they just can't be good for you. Although I guess copious amounts of energy drinks could explain Ike's behavior
  10. It may be a simple, direct approach, but I can guarantee you I will not hear or see much of anyone on the lakes I fish paying attention to structure at all beyond pad edges and deep weed edges. On lakes that run from 200-1000 acres you get to know the lakes pretty well and can tell what cover or structure other people are fishing. But if you have any other input, feel free to chime in.
  11. Copenhagen. I quit for almost a year, then started traveling for work. The boredom set in and I went back to chewing. Never used the patches, just altoids. Wasn't the nicotine so much as having something in my mouth. All told, I go through maybe a tin a week, and usually thats because it dries out before I use it.
  12. Thanks, I will do that, I guess the reason I brought this up is when I go fishing with people around here I often see them concentrating on where the weeds are, but not whats going on within the weeds, and I think that is important, so I kind of wondered if I was the only one who felt that way. I guess when I think of structure I think of creek channels, points, bluffs, etc., and much of what I am fishing doesn't show up on a topo map. I.E. a map will show the 5 and 10 foot contours, but it won't show the "break" where it goes from 6 to 8 feet rapidly, and then gradually goes to 10 foot.
  13. There have been areas in this state where similar things have happened and the courts determined the area in question was not public. I am currently involved in a similar lawsuit due to one obnoxious landowner over an area that has been in semi-public use for over 50 years. They are now suing every landowner on the lake over an area surveyed and deeded for the use of all property owners on said lake. Having talked to a few lawyers before we decided on one and reading up on court cases, I can tell you what you would think isn't necessarily so.
  14. All I can tell you is cases like this often end up in court for years if you should decide to challenge it. Its a question of riparian rights, here if a road dead ends into a lake it is automatically a public access, but if a road parallels a lake, the shoreline and riparian rights belong to the property owner the road easement runs through. Just because it was being allowed doesn't mean the courts will uphold it, despite adverse possession laws. I hope that clarifies things LOL
  15. Ok, the lakes I fish are mainly quite featureless and weedy. But one thing I have noticed is it seems there are minor variations within the weedy "flats" that often seem to concentrate the bass. Small 1-2' drops, changes in weed types, deep holes - larger than what I would call pockets but not what would be considered the primary deep weed edge, things like that. Anyway, I hear about people cranking the deep weed edge or fishing weeds, but never really hear people say much about these minor variations. I call them speed bumps because the ones that have been best for me are areas that I believe would either slow prey down and cause them to change direction or offer extra concealment for bass cruising for a meal while being able to scan more open waters. Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else had any input on this subject. I believe there are times when focusing on these areas makes my time on the water more effecient and productive, but that may be a biased opinion.
  16. pretty much the same here, except a keeper is either 14 or 10 inches depending on the lake. smallmouth run a little bigger where I fish them, but I don't fish them as often
  17. Pekingnese. She's a brat, but we love her. Had an American Bulldog that passed two years ago, was a great dog, just haven't been able to replace her yet. Looked mean, always stood at attention at heal when walking, was a sweetheart.
  18. I've done well with clear/flake 4" ringworms and finesse worms in clear water. Had a few larger ribbontails in some random light, what I would call minnow-imitating, colors. They caught a few fish, but I think the regular worm colors work better with the larger presentations.
  19. The only input I am going to give is my boys aren't really old enough to fish much yet, but love going to the tackle store or watching fishing shows on TV. So, when my wife wants a break I am more than happy to oblige with a boy's day out to Bass Pro, Cabela's or Lunkers while she does what she wants. It would be unrealistic to expect to fish as much as I did, but I am still able to get out plenty.
  20. Bomber 5A in brown craw. Not my best producer, but got my first bass on a crankbait on it. Its been all downhill since
  21. Either toenail clippers or Klein scissors. Don't know that Klein are better than any other scissor for this application, I just happen to have a few pair
  22. At least here, someone trying to interfere with your lawful fishing or hunting is a crime. Thats not to say they can't still be rude, but there are limitations and they can be reported.
  23. We are going to scrap it assuming he pulls the permits and have a bonfire with the wood and whatever other random stuff we decide to burn. I found people interested in most of the stuff from the appliances to the windows and have a couple guys willing to help, so why not. Our township dump is pretty reasonable on fees, don't expect more than a trailer load of junk left to haul after looking at it. Moving it would just be too costly, and given the age and overall condition, might not be safe. Not sure how well old 2x2's would handle bouncing down a road.
  24. Is it ok to shoot them with a .22 if you can't stab them?
  25. Zane Grey, but it wouldn't be bass fishing
