  1. I'm usually out at either Cohoon or Lone Star most of the summer. I think I fish Lone Star more than most lake I fish. I mainly fish the south end lakes that are all attached ( from either shore of a kayak), but I've heard that Butler Tract on the north end has some big bass in it. Soft plastics are what I mainly use at Lone Star but I'll also throw a crankbait at some point during the day. What lake in the park do you fish the most? I went out and fished Newport News Reservoir this past weekend. Caught a few on a spinnerbait and a redeye shad being ripped through the weeds. Found some beds too, but no fish were on them.
  2. I looked on google earth and I think I'm going to try at horn point. Thanks for the advice!
  3. Does anyone know of any kayak launch sites, or boat ramps in general, on Back Bay close to Sandbridge? I'm planning a fishing trip down there in a few weeks and want to find one thats easy to access the bay from.
  4. Has anyone heard how the fish are biting? It's been a little warm around here recently and I'm not sure how the fish are going to respond.
  5. I'm going fishing at Northwest River Park this Friday, does anyone know of a baitshop in that area that sells minnows?
  6. Any other reels that fit the veritas? I'm looking at an Ardent Edge, Pflueger President, and Shimano Curado 200G. Thanks for all the input so far!
  7. To answer your question, no. I prefer rods with regular guides. All of these reviews sound promising. Like a lot of you, I read the reviews on tackle warehouse and saw that they weren't that great. I think I'll end up getting one. It was a split between that and the st. croix mojo, but I have a preference for abu garcias.
  8. I'm looking at getting one of these rods for multi-purpose use. Probably a 7' mh. Any thoughts on this rod or advice from someone who already owns one?
  9. Heddon Pop'n Image. You can walk the dog or fish it like a normal popper.
  10. I've caught bass from 10 inches to 6 lbs. on trick worms. Those bass will definitely bite them. My favorite presentation is weightless t-style but I also t-rig with a bullet weight. Just match the color to the conditions and you'll be in for some fun.
  11. Went out this morning and my guide eyes would fill with ice as I was retrieving. Just curious whats the coldest temperature anyone has fished in?
  12. What I usually do in the spring and summer is almost like a variation of the i-motion technique. I T-rig a weightless zoom trick worm or any other straight tail worm, cast it out and reel it very slowly back to me, imparting no action whatsoever. Me personally, i would start by fishing a jerk-bait just off the shallows where the gravel is, next to the pipe drain on the east-side of the lake. I'd also jig along the inside edges of that 8 ft deep hole on the NW bank. Those points look like they act like a highway for fish to enter and exit that cove. It looks like you spend a lot of time on that steep drop off too, a lot of white dots. Great map by the way! Hope this helps.
  13. I like to crank right through the wood, trying to keep contact as much as possible. Depending on what I'm feeling the bait hit, I'll either keep cranking or pause it for a split second. If it's a squarebill, I'll keep cranking, if not, I'll usually pause it so it won't get hung up. Normally, I let the reel dictate most of the bait action, only twitching the rod occasionally.
  14. My state laws don't say anything about it, but I've always used shiners for bass. I haven't tried live bluegills yet other than for catfish, and I've never caught an accidental bass doing that. Shiners have always caught me at least a few bass during a trip.
  15. I think I always have half of my rods rigged for soft plastics. You can always present something different to the fish when it comes to soft plastics.
