Glacial Lakes SD
I was up there a few weeks ago. While the water levels are down a bit, I was able to launch my 18' Ranger without too much trouble. Admittedly, Horseshoe Lake and Reetz Lake south of Webster are the only ones I fished in that area, though. The dirt roads are more of an inconvenience (i.e. dusty boat) than any real access problems, IMO. You can go the SD fish and game site and look at Day County and Marshall County for maps of lakes and fishing forecasts. I would check the weather forecasts and wind directions and then choose a lake with boat ramps on the side that allow you to fish the safer, calmer parts of the lake without having the get caught out in the windswept areas unnecessarily. Hope this helps.

In The Minority In Ne South Dakota
I'm from Omaha, and I travel up there to fish smallmouths a couple times a year. You're right about the the world class smallmouth fishing up there. The locals always look at me funny when I tell them I'm there for the bass fishing... Roy and Clear are probably the most consistent lakes for large bass, but by no means the only lakes worth fishing. I'm jealous of all the opportunities you folks have up there that are mostly overlooked--I say mostly overlooked because there's always a legion of Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota bassers when I'm there!

Shimano 6'8" Clarus Crankbait Casting Rod
Anyone have experience with this rod? No local stores carry the 6'8" crankbait version in any of the various models (Sellus, Clarus, Compre, or Crucial). I'd like to use the rod for squarebills. I do not want a 7' rod. My concern is the "medium" rating and the 8-14 test rating. I had a 7' M St. Croix Avid Crankbait rod with a similar rating that was "WAY" too light for any crankbait with any bite to it. I use primarily 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz squarebills, so I'm not using anything heavy duty. I realize it's a preference thing; I'm more concerned about rod weight than sensitivity, too. Does this rod fish "light"? Anybody fished both the St. Croix M Crankbait rod? If it's anything close to the the Avid in terms of power, then I'll look for something else in a true MH. My hope is that the Shimano fishes "heavier" than the Avid. I look forward to any feedback you guys can provide. Thanks!

Greetings From Omaha
Hello All, Not new--I've been a member for a while--but thought I'd make myself official. Lots of great info here and lots of fun, too. I've been bass fishing my whole life and it's good to know I'm not the only crazy one! Tight lines! "I don't always catch bass, but when I do, I prefer 5 pounders."

Chatterbait Storage?
Curious what other folks find to be the most efficient way to store chatterbaits. They don't fit well in made-for-spinnerbait or made-for-jig boxes with the the way the blade sits and the notches are positioned on the above type of boxes...I use regular 3600 and 3700 boxes but would like something different. Any suggestions?

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
I'm headed to Mozingo during the week next week...never been there. Can anyone tell me how the boater fee works? How much is it? Is there a self-registration, or do I have to purchase it (and wait) from a vendor or a park office? Also, are any of the ramps any better or worse than any other? Thanks so much!
