  1. Well said sir. That is my stance as well. Hey if I need to take care of something around the house, or I did something without my wife the weekend before, ill spend the weekend with her instead of going off by myself. You just have to know when your pushing thelimits so to speak.
  2. Yep I am happily married and go fishing whenever the hell I want . Just feel bad for him. I work in a small company and about 10 of us are fishing fanatics. We always do small fun company tournaments (top prize being bragging rights), we go on rockfish charters a couple times a year. And we always include him in the plans, even offer to pay his way for the charters. He usually just hangs his head and says I don't know we'll see. Then a week before we go he says he can't go. We don't hold it against him and we don't ever exclude him. Just a shame he can't enjoy it with us.
  3. Correct, it is coming from a third party. However the information I am relaying to you comes directly from him. He vents constantly to us, but as I stated before he is a good husband and an even better father to his child and her kids that he treats as they are his own. Which leads me to believe that it's made him give up any pursuit of finding a compromise because in his eyes, its just not worth it. I'm not looking for advice on what to tell him, it's not my place to tell him. I was just seeing if anyone thought the situation is as absurd as it sounds to me. Plainly put I just feel bad for him. He is a very passive individual and I feel bad that he can't muster the courage to "make a stand" for himself. I didn't start the topic too get into a debate over morality issues when it comes to marriage, divorce, and whether or not it's an appropriate discussion point on an "off-topic" forum. While I respect your opinion and have nothing against it.. I think its only fair that you respect the fact that my only purpose was the create a small discussion to hear or see differing views. My intentions were not to insult anyone or disrespect their beliefs on marriage.
  4. So I know a gentleman. I work with this guy, he loves fishing. Has his whole life, grew up fishing, has fish tattoos. He has been married for say 6-7 years. Before he got married, his wife knew about his love for fishing. She didn't care then, but oh how the tides of turned. They have 3 kids, one of them is his, two of them are from the womans previous marriage. All the kids are in school, 4th grade and up. The wife, doesn't work, doesn't take time out of her day to pay bills, or do anything productive so to speak. She sits around the house and goes out to eat with her friends for lunch and stuff like that. We work second shift, meaning he probably gets home around 11 or midnight. She doesn't even wake up to put the kids on the bus. The fellow I work with does while she sleeps in. He use to work two jobs in order to pay the bills, and they live in a small trailer. Not to long ago, his wife asked him if she could go on vacation for a week, with their neighbor, who is a GUY. Obviously he said no and she didn't talk to him for a week. Anytime he brings up fishing, she gets irate, and doesn't talk to him. She tells her friends she is a "winter wife" because he likes to go fishing. Guess how many times he has been fishing in the 3 years I have worked with him? Maybe, MAYBE 5 times. She tells him he needs to sell his fishing stuff because they don't have any money. He is selling his boat now. Just a small jon boat with a motor, but he is selling it. I asked him why, he said ohh I'll probably get something like a camper, something to do with the family. Its like he is in a state of denial. He goes to bass pro shops once a year, and isn't allowed to buy anything, he just takes the kids so they can have a good time. I mean god bless him, hes a great father, and a great husband to his inconsiderate wife. I just feel like slapping him. Tell him to wake up! I have been fishing with him two times, two times in 3 years. Both times, he must have answered his phone 20 times because she was calling him to complain about the kids acting up, just trying as hard as she good to make him leave. Asking him what time he is coming home, stuff like that. I know he probably loves her, I don't know how but he does. But if this were me? Oh man, the problems this woman has obviously go much deeper than allowing the poor guy to go fishing every once in a while. She won't even let him take the kids fishing, he tells me he doesn't even care if he catches fish, he just wants to see his kids have a good time. And the kicker is, the kids love going. The 1 time a year he is allowed it go. I know divorce is a serious issue, and marriage is about making sacrifices. But good LORD! I would have been out the door a lonnnnng time ago. Obviously I would never tell him that, but I just wanted to see what other peoples opinions were.
  5. Trusty ol' spinnerbait.
  6. So I went out early Saturday up to a pond in the neighborhood where I grew up. Second cast I caught this one. I could have swore It would have broken the 5lb mark for me making it my new PB. But it weighed 4.7. Everyone I showed said it looks bigger than that as I am a pretty big guy. 6 2 about 200 pounders. But the scale doesn't lie! (or does it Pretty big for around these parts. After that I caught 3 more ranging from 3.2-3.6 lbs and a couple probably hovering around 2 lbs. It was a great day, It didn't seem to matter what I threw they would eat it. I love days like that. The water was pretty dirty, and I thought I wouldn't have much luck but it was the complete opposite. They were all up in pretty shallow water except 2 of them. I wonder if the muddy water had something to do with why they were up so shallow. The pond is pretty large and would be excellent for a kayak or canoe. So there is much deeper water Where I would assume they would be this time of the year. Shows how much I know! Anyways just wanted to share my excitement. I went out with my Father as it was the day before fathers day, he makes fun of me because I turn into a little boy when I catch a big on. Jumping around hooting and hollering.
  7. That's a good thing! That means your catching fish. If I went through an entire bag of plastics in one trip and lost every one of them on a fish. I would be as happy as could be. Then head to the store the next day , buy 2 packs and pray I lose them on fish too! Like others said though. Senkos are the least durable but they seem to catch more fish than other similar baits. You could try some other brands maybe they will work just as well for you.
  8. Pro qualifier 12 lb mono. I mean... I cans fish adequately enough with any of those three set ups. Its hard to explain though how it just doesn't feel right. Its not AS awkward when using the heavier worms. But if I throw a big tube or a creature bait on.. it gets a little weird. I guess I'm just looking for that ideal rod where I can switch out the baits on the rigs while maintaining my accuracy and feel. My rods aren't super high end. The three I use would be st croix triumph, bps extreme and a bps carbonlite. Maybe its the weight of the rods. Out of the three I like the carbonlite the best but that's the 6'6" and I do like to have those extra 6 inches. Perhaps a 7ft carbonlite is in my near future. .. hrmmm
  9. So I have been going back and forth between some of my rods trying to find that one rod that feels right and every rod I use just feels awkward. Started with a 7ft medium heavy fast. Felt way to stiff. For pitching it works fine but casting doesn't feel right. Went to a 7ft medium fast. Same thing. Just feels too stiff and awkward. Can't cast accurately at all when not pitching. Downsized to a 6'6" medium heavy. Felt a little better but still kind of stiff and can't make medium distance casts with much accuracy. Usually use a 3/16 or 1/4 weight with a 5/0 hook and pretty large plasticplastics. 10 inch worms are standard. Should I try something with a moderate fast tip? Maybe I can load up my casts a little better. Anyways just seeing whay you guys thought.
  10. I am trying to find a good trailer to match up with my new swim jigs. I was thinking about the subwoofer but can't seem to find a good color to match it up with? What do you guys use? That would be the bluegill jigs by the way lol.
  11. Just put in a big order. I am what one might call, a jig virgin. I have been reading a lot about jig fishing, and slap myself in the face a few times when I realize what I am missing out on. I have searched the internet far and wide for high quality jigs and keep coming back to northstar. With this sale going on and an extra 10 percent I thought it would be the perfect time to "spring" into action. Get it? Hopefully I can report back some good news once I get some opportunities to get out on the water.

My buddy turned me onto tubes. I absolutely love them for larrgemouth. I fish flippin tubes with a pegged bullet weight. I also leave it unpegged sometimes it offers up a little different action. However I prefer to peg it as I am more accurate casting and usually throwing them into tight quarters.
  13. I want to replace all my trebles on my RES. It is one of my go to lures and I feel as if I would land alot more fish if I switch out my hooks. I want to upsize one. 1/2oz come with size 4 hooks out of package if I am correct. I want to move up in size but don't want to how the bait runs. So I think I have to go with a short shank treble with a wider gap. I am not sure if I can go up a size if I don't get a short shank but correct me if I am wrong I am looking at these but am open for suggestion. http://www.***.com/Mustad_KVD_1x_Strong_2x_Short_Triple_Grip_Treble_Hook/descpage-MKVDEST.html The Owner stingers look nice as well but i dont think come in a short shank version. Thanks for any help you can give me guys I really appreciate it!
  14. I am thinking about purchasing a kayak. I prefer to use bait casting gear. I don't think I have ever sat down and fished with a bait caster in a position that would be similar to a Kayak but I feel like it would be a little difficult. Do you guys prefer spinning set ups for Kayak fishing or does it not really matter?
  15. Was in Dicks just browsing some fishing kayaks and picked up a tube of megastrike. Surprised they had it, ours local Dicks seems to be run by a bunch of incompetents I don't think I have ever came across a product (lures or terminal tackle) that was on the correct rack. I have to manually search all the surrounding racks and match up the bar codes to find out how much an item costs. Either that or walk around with an employee that can scan every single item I pick up.
  16. I opened up my PQ's. It appeared the brakes were just randomly set as each one was different. I turned them all off, and then flipped 2 on, opposite each other, and my casts were a lot smoother and carried further with less casting force. Thanks for the input guys! I only manged to catch some grass and a few pine trees. The bite in my backyard still hasn't turned on yet. Cant wait to get them out on the water when it warms up! My extreme says it is dual braking, but it appears I cannot access the centrifugal brakes, it is one of the new models, something im missing?
  17. Hey guys. I have a few bps reels that have the dual breaking system. I was at the local pond the other day and was trying to fine tune them for their applications but couldn't seem to get the results i wanted. Do you guys adjust the centrifugal brakes? Or do you keep them at factory settings. On all of my reels I keep the magnetic brakes low, around 2-4 it varies for each reel but I haven't messed with the centrifugal brakes yet. I am proficient enough where feather my casts with my thumbs, but I would assume some guys keep at least a couple brakes on just in case. IF I adjust them, do I have to keep at least 2 on? I watched a video here where the gentleman explained you want to keep it symmetrical so I guess that means at least 2 on. But just wanted to get some insight before I start messing with them. An example, I really try and launch my lipless cranks, so I am assuming I would want a couple brakes on just to prevent a backlash from occuring. Or can that be controlled with just your thumb? I was thinking for baits where I don't really try to launch them , but its more about accuracy and control, I could perhaps turn them off? Or set it to the lowest possible settings. Thanks for any input guys!
  18. I also oiled and greased my older pq last night so we shall see if that helps.
  19. Ahh i see. I was under the impression baitcasters handled better with slightly heavier lines, thought that might have helped a little. Scratch that from my possible resolution list! Thank ya.
  20. Yes I migjt try that. Weight shouldn't be the issue I don't drop below 3/8 oz on any of these set ups. The issue isnt that they are not usuable. I can still get plenty of distance when Im fishing that way. Its more or less just that my. Carbon lite is SO smooth. That once I have felt that smoothness ., now I want all my reels to feel like that it is a more expensive reel but not by much.
  21. Here is my situation. I have 2 bps pro q baitcasters 2 carbonlites 1 gold model 1 new black model. And 1 extreme baitcaster. My gold carbonlite is by far the best performer of all my reels, but I'm not sure why. I have it spooled up with 12# mono and I can throw it very far and it is silky smooth. Its on a 6ft 6inch medium heavy fast action rod. However with my two pro qualifiers I just can't seem to get that same smoothness when casting. All the breaks are set the same and I also have them spooled with 12# mono. One is paried with a 6'6" med fast rod, the other with 6'6" medium heavy fast crankin stik. I don't think there is anyrhing faulty with the reels. Could it be the line? Could it be how im spooling them? I just thread line through the closet guide and hold the spool with my feet, and put tension on the line with my fingers. I adjust my tension knobs too whatever lure im throwing, but the the knobs are still relatively loose. It almost seems like the line is not flowing smooth through the line guide or something. But I cant say for sure that is what it is. Do you guys have any tips or pointers . I picked up some kvd line and lure and also plan on spooling them with 14# mono too see if that helps. What do you guys think?
  22. I believe the new bionic plus rod on bass pro has a microguide version for under 75. Can't comment on quality though I haven't used one. Its the new one with the white color scheme.
  23. Honey wheat pretzel twists and some water. Oh honey wheat pretzel twists how I love you. I tend to stay away from anything that makes me pop a squat and so far these keep it under control.
  24. Fishes in trees - Money is not an issue. Its just that I have spent money on baits that I won't use rather then baits that I will use. If that makes sense Bobp - that is exactly what im looking to do! Im just trying to narrow down my main baits to colors i know will produce. I will keep a few oddball baits i wouldnt normally throw if im getting skunked but I would like to keep my choices lean. Thanks for all the input so far everyone I appreciate it!
  25. Alot of chartreuse in the spinnerbaits already! I can't seem to have much luck with chartreuse, what conditions do you guys usually throw these under? I fish primarily clear water reservoirs and a slightly stained local pond.
