  1. Here its in the 90's 10 months of the year. Finesse fishing and night fishing all the way. No south Fl. waters are deeper than 10ft. and the key to finding even slightly active bass is moving water and shade.
  2. Throw away as in : Stradic CI 4. Havent been able to get spare parts since it was created. In either 4000 or 2500 size. Curado D series. Less than one year after it was upgraded to the E, parts no longer available. Look at the list Shimano posts on their site. Even the Flagship Calais and Stella has models that are not supported with spare parts. That makes a Calais or Stella with a for ever warranty, a throw away. There is no difference between shimano or pure fishing or any of the other Banax factory made versions of the Revo that are labeled Lews. They are all in line with todays profit only, customer service never, what is pride in workmanship, business model.
  3. Location and demographics must have to do with that Snookie. Here 99% of any kind of fisherman probably has a giant Ugly Stick surf rod/reel combo from China Mart. Even if they are bream fishing. Heck even the fancy Ranger flats boat with its matching colored trailer and F250 will have those stupid outfits in the rod rack. If you ever see a "real" outfit and see a truly serious fisherman here, he's holding a Shimano. Used to be me, Ive spent my whole retirement buying their latest and greatest. But not anymore. They are just as throw away as the Revo.
  4. Thats the American way of business now spread world wide. Planned obsolescence to convince you that you need the latest improvements combined with limited time engineering to insure you have to buy a replacement soon enough to assure their continued profit. Thats why old Abu Ambassadeurs keep going. They were made by a nation that at the time had a honor and pride instilled work ethic. Sadly they were bought by the mothership Pure Fishing a.k.a. Jarden who owns a large piece of the outdoors business pie.
  5. I always remove all reels from their rods. Back off all drags, wipe down both rods and reels with INOX, put rods in racks, reels on a drying shelf. Lures get rinsed if used in salty water and put a drying shelf.
  6. Ive tossed all my plastic modern crap away and gone back to old Ambassadeurs. Other than making my wrists stronger, I havent seen any difference in the amount Im catching. Dont miss IAR, dont miss my reels being outdated at every ICAST show either.
  7. I have the 6'3" version of the 6'8" you just ordered. Its a fine rod except the hand grip portion of the rear grip is to small and bulbous for me. Just never feels like I have a good grip on it. I also have the 5'10" spinning skippin' rod. I love that rod. With 10lb braid it still cast like a 7fter. But I rarely use it for that. It excels at skipping and being an all purpose rod while in close quarters, a canoe, jon boat or from the bank where you have hvy vegetation.
  8. Id take one with you to the tackle shop to compare. Especially since each maker seems to vary the shank length some. Size one is a good place to start.

    Gammy short shanks usually.
  10. I catch both fresh and saltwater fish with the super fluke. It is my go to bait most days. Always tie it with a loop knot and try to work it with plenty of slack. This way you can basically walk the dog just sub surface. Also its effective on a dead drop in and alongside structure such as dead wood and bridge abutments. often times fish will follow it to the boat but not strike it or just swipe it. when that happens try the smaller fluke.
  11. A hundred dollar rod for a Solstace seems kinda overkill. Maybe a Vendetta or similar rod around 70 bucks. But for $100 the TFO Inshore in MH has worked for me throwing heavy buzzbaits and frog baits.
  12. With Daiwa's free floating spool I'd expect it to be a better caster than a Curado. Im pleased to see a new reel that is understated in appearance. Im sick of rods/reels that look like they belong hanging on a chain around someones neck. Too bad they gave it Magforce V instead of Magforce Z.
  13. Perhaps you should make yourself more familiar with the shimano website. Take a look at the long list of reels they no longer support. Very recent additions to there history are included, like certain models of their flagship model the Calais. You know the one that came with a lifetime warranty ..............
  14. Yeah right always available. That's why they offer no support for Curado Ds since the year the E came out. Cant even get parts for current C14s.
  15. Sure a Shimano that'll get redsigned next year be obsolete and not be supported with spare parts the year after that.
  16. Yes the Lightning rod is softer actioned just by way of the material used. The Premier is graphite, the lightning rod a composite of graphite and fiberglass. Even though it is rated the same, the cheaper composite rods will always give you a perceived greater feel.
  17. He said it was new and there is a gouge in the spools rim? He lied to you. Maybe you should take recourse against him through ebay if he's not willing to refund you.

That species is so scarce. That was a major spawner with 5 males chasing her. 5 years from now when he cant find anymore to shoot, he'll wonder why.
  19. Down here in Fl. the hotter it gets, the more finesse I use. Everything here is shallow, never deeper than 6'. So shade is the key or where ever water is entering such as drainage pipes etc. The only exception to finesse is using live bait and night fishing.
  20. Surprisingly light for the money. Moderate for a little more than the tip but with a strong backbone. A great action to walk topwaters with. My fishing buddy caught a 47# black drum using one. I use one as my bridge and jetty rod so I dont risk a top dollar rod on the rocks. Its become one of my favorite rods. The older I get the less I like expensive rods.
  21. Perhaps a new Cardiff will arise that will fill the mid priced round reel market the Calcutta is leaving. Surely Shimano is leaving something under wraps for ICAST and not spilling all their beans.
  22. Id like to see the new Abu Revo SX and Inshore spinning reels. There may finally be competition for Shimano spinning reels.
  23. Look like quantums to me. Ugly. Replaced an aluminum frame with graphite and still managed to increase the price.
