This is my wife's fault. A couple of years after we purchased our first house, my wife says "we need to buy a boat." A boat? We don't even fish! Fast forward to early fall 2011. Wife says "Let's go fishing", well okay, off to Wally world for a couple of Zebco 733's, worms, hooks, and bobbers. $60, not bad, cheap thrills.....right. We went fishing in lake Frierson and had a pretty great time. Caught a few blue gill. I mentioned to a friend that we had gone fishing but didn't catch much and he invited us out to his custom built pond to remove as many blue gill and bass less than 4lbs as we wanted. We tore the copper nose, war mouth, and other bream UP! From mid October till late November we were out there every chance we had. Caught a few 4-6 lb largemouth out of there too. What a blast this fishing thing was. Untill my friend was transferred to Hawaii and sold his property. :0( Our last day to fish out there was Christmas day. Knowing we would soon be out of this honey hole, we started bank fishing the local waters, lakes Hogue, Craighead, Poinsett, etc. That got old pretty quick. The wife was right, we needed a boat. I noticed a Jon boat parked at a pawn shop and inquired within. 1967 14'/36" 83 johnson 9.9 and a transom mounted trolling motor $900. Not bad, $600 and a ruger 10/22 and it was all mine. The motor would get me all the way to the middle of the lake then refuse to start. I can now answer most questions regarding the repair and maintenance of a 83 johnson/evenrude 9.9. So that's what the trolling motor is for and be careful with that transom, it'll fall apart if you sneeze at it. Ah tax time... Turns out, it doesn't matter how much cussing you do, it doesn't make it easier to pull start an outboard. Time for something with seats and electric start. Found a 93 14' roughneck, console steer, casting decks, depth finder, stereo, live well, and a 40 hp evenrude with an outboard jet. $2700. Drove 150 miles to pick it up. That was Feb 15, 2012. Have had the new boat out a few times and we love it. My wife and I have a new found passion that I think will last us a lifetime. Tight lines everyone, see you on the water.
