Looking for a low speed (4:7:1 or lower) reel
I don't always agree with the reviews on Tackletour BUT I will give them some credit for providing decent information on lots of tackle. Here is their review of slow crankin' baitcasters. Interesting read if you are in the market for one. http://www.tackletour.com/review2010lowspeedfinal.html

6# line suggestions?
Been using 100% Berkley FC. Never an issue. A chapter member recently recommended Invisx to me. I may give this a shot this year.

help me pick a jerkbait setup
For most day to day applications, I am using a Jerkbait on a casting rod. 6'6" Medium, Fast. The casting reel allows me to make more accurate casts and is more comfortable to use. When I am big water (Lake Erie, Lake Simcoe, Lake St. Clair) I prefer a 7' Medium Spinning rod. I will run 10lb FC or 10lb braid for extra distance. On big/clear water I prefer 'hail mary' casts to locate fish with jerkbaits. The longer rod helps with distance and hooksets. I am 6'3" tall so a 7' rod is easy to manage. Most peers use a 6'6" or 6'10" jerkbait rod.

TRILENE 100% FLOUROCARBON
Great product. Been running this on many of my combos for two seasons now. If you are in the market for a good FC at a reasonable price this is it. I have been running 8lb or 6lb for DropShots, 10lb for tubes, cranks, jerkbaits and 12lb for Buzzbaits/Spinnerbaits. I use 17lb for light flipping/pitching.

Braid vs. Rocks.
Braid and rocks definitely don't mix. FC is a good alternative to braid in rocky situations. I spend most of my time fishing for smallmouth in open water areas. Dragging tubes is a great method for enticing the Brown Bass from deep areas. Straight FC is the way to go.

? about swimbaits on spinnerbaits
You can do both. I have tried this before and liked the performance/appearance of the bait when I trim/thin the skirt if using a swimbait on a spinnerbait. However, I prefer either one or the other and not mixing the two. My 0.02

spring fishing ontario water, need your advice..
Hi Don, The reference to Western Ontario are lakes in the northwest of the province. The fishing season is different than the southern area of the province. This has been the case for a very long time. We simply don't get to enjoy many bass fishing opportunities in Southern Ontario until season opens in late June. However, if you live close to Toronto you can travel to NY State for some bass fishing fun. Many Ontario anglers travel to NY for their Catch&Release season. Great way to the spring months waiting for season to open in Ontario. What lakes are your normally fishing when season opens? I may be able to help point you in the direction of some local patterns.
