tips on how to approach new lake
I fished a new lake a few months ago and am going again this weekend.. weather high of 90 partly cloudy. water temp 85. the lake is really clear and shallow with the deepest in the middle being about 20 feet. It is really like a bowl with the deepest in the middle and shallowing toward the banks.. Lots of cover on the bank with over hanging trees... My questions are these...from the bank to about 6 foot out there is a grass/seaweed mat that prevents me from throwing a lure to the bank...I can flip a worm up to the mat, on the outside edge or have throwm a weightless senko on top of the mat to the bank and have had some success with bass coming up to hit the senko on top of the mat, just wish there was a way to fish in the grass better..... the other question is on the over hanging trees/shrubs. again I casted lures up to the edge of the overhang, but I feel the bass may be up under all this mess..what lure could I use to maybe skip it under the overhang and not be hung up all the time. any advice would help....darren

releasing bass after deep hookset
Wanted to make sure I was doing this right..I have been worm fishing lately, and the bass are taking it really lightly, and sometimes I only see the line moving sideways.. I reel up the slack to feel the pressure, to ensure i'm not just hung up, and then drop the hammer. 3 of the last 10 fish and been hooked really deeply. Some are already bleeding when I get them to the boat. I will cut the hook as far back as I can and let the fish go.. they all seem to swim away, but this really bothers me. I do not want to kill any bass and want to make sure my son(10mo.old) has a chance to catch her when she is much bigger. any advice would help.....thanks darren :'(

need help with this spring
sorry, the lake I currently fish from a boat is fed by a large creek, and even the water at the dam is muddy. generaly is the water clearer at the feeding creek or at the dam? Right now it seems to be about the same.. It has steep banks and with all the rain it is extremely muddy. Lots of docks to fish some rip rap banks , a few coves with docks. thanks.......darren

need help with this spring
I have yet to catch a keeper this spring and it is already late april.....the water at the lake is really muddy, and I mean really muddy... I have been trying a chartruese spinner bait and when it gets more than 4 inches below the surface I cant even see it.. the water temp is about 59 but in the back of the coves it is already above 60... I need help.....I would think that at this time of the year and with warmer water temps I would at least catch some smaller bass...any help would be great....darren

strip pit fishing
Well the weather ended up being really bad.. High temp of 45 after several days of mid 60's.. High winds and the water was really muddy. We ended up catching 8 fish with the biggest being 4lb6oz. All were caught on a spinnerbait in shallow water, believe it or not.. I would have liked to get to deeper water but I was in a small john boat and it was real hard to control in the wind so I stayed tight to the bank and out of the wind. We were real pleased with the fishing taking into account the terrible cold front...thanks for the help darren

strip pit fishing
trip got postponed until this weekend....Wouldnt ya know it, it is supposed to turn cooler and rain all weekend..I think we are going to try to give it a go either way. Every time I have been, with him, someone catches a bass over 4lb.. You are right, structure is a problem, but in one of them, which is 2mi long on GPS, on one of the steep banks is what appears to be an overturned tree, and it is almost a guarantee to catch a big fish there... Weather will suck ....Fri High of 65 and Sat High of 45 with rain, any help would be great...thanks darren

getting ready to buy some rods
have only been bass fishing for about 2 yrs.. all the rods I have are the bass pro extremes. I have a 7ft MH and M... Got a chance to try a buddies St.Croix and noticed how much softer the tip is his MH compared to the bass pro version.. What is everyones favorite rod? I really dont want to go buy an expensive rod and then be unhappy with it... I am looking for a worm rod, crankbait rod, spinnerbait and spinning rod...any help with this would be appreciated thanks darren

water temp
Its raining right now but is supposed to clear up this weekend.. the water is pretty muddy right now and may be worse this weekend with the water runoff from the rain...Will the fish be able to see a white spinnerbait or do I need some chartruese in there? I was thinging spinnerbait and crankbait near the docks and to try to locate the baitfish..any thoughts? darren

water temp
Here in MO. it has been really warm untile the last week with the highs in the mid 60's and mid 40's at night.. I am heading out this weekend to fish with my uncle and was wondering....Could someone give me some insight at what water temp the bass will change from heading shallow to feed on shad vs. heading deep for the winter months...We were really wanting to fish for shallow feeding LM but didnt know if it was too late...thanks for the help darren

Does anyone have any insight on one of these hydrofoil stabalizer plates that mount on the motor above the prop...What is their purpose exactly and do they help that much...My other question is about a stainless steel prop...I have a 18ft statos F/S with a 115 Johnson with a factory prop... Will a good SS prop help that much....thanks darren

striper fishing
planning to go with my brother and uncle to Kentucky Dam area to striper fish.. I noticed from an earlier thread that live bait was the best. Is there any other pointers I could get as far as what to use to catch a few... Is live bait the only way or do bass lures work as well...thanks so much darren

want to try a new line
I was wanting to re-spool all my rod and reels..Currently I use 12# trilene XL for my baitcasters.....I have noticed when fishing around cover, this line is not very abrasion resistant and I can feel the line and see rough spots, and if i dont re-tie the line will break upon hookset at these weak points.. Has anyone tried trilene XT? It is any better? Any other recommendations would help. Is flourocarbon that great or can I get by with mono just the same....thanks alot darren

post salt water maintainance
I am going to Florida in a few days and am considering bringing a baitcaster and a spinning reel to fish off the pier...Whats the story on clean up of the reel after being in salt water... will it cause permanent damage to the reel and is it worth bringing.

I need knot help
I currently use 12lb trilene xl.. I have just started using the palamar and am not very good at it at all. When I go to clench the knot I have curls or bends in the line above the knot that dont straighten out...I am sorry it is hard to explain... I have lost 2 fish in the last week on line breakage at the knot and am unsure whether it is incorrect know tying or weakening of the line at these squiggly areas above the knot.. any help would be appreciated...thanks darren

I fished lake St.Louis,Mo Sunday for the first time in my first bass boat, and it was great, even though i didnt catch a single fish. not even a bite. air temp 54degrees and water temp 49...Sunnny and I thought I would do well... I tried a white spinnerbait with tandem willow leaf, crankbait, rat-l-trap, and a jig for just a little while....I have never caught a fish on a jig...Can anyone help me to as I might be doing wrong.
