  1. Interesting topic. I travel with 8 rods in an older model chevy impalla. Longest rods being 7'5''. I could go longer if I wanted to. I've found a holder unnecessary for my situation. However, reel covers, rod gloves, and caution sure go a long way. I would be interested to see the solution to this. I've read threads in the past on this subject and some people are crafty and are able to work out something pretty neat. Not sure if there is anything in the market at this moment for said situation. Just thought I'd give my 2 cents. Good luck!
  2. Sunline sniper fc. Whem they go on sale 2 for 1.
  3. What weight spinnerbaits will you be throwing. 1/4oz-3/8oz is a whole different ballgame than 1/2oz-1oz. I would move up to a heavy rod in the upper range. Fast action seems to work well. Also, if I was throwing the heavier weight range I would opt for a 6.X:1 ratio.
  4. Not true, visible wavelengths of infrared radiation diminish as it penetrates in the water. Water clarity also plays a role in how far light will penetrate. Any color line will eventually turn black at a certain depth. Red just so happens to be the color that turns dark sooner. An opaque black line is far from being invisible.
  5. Excellent Post. Couldn't have put it better myself. People do not understand the positive effects of using a dense line. In lieu of the direct connection statement is because of this density and the less belly from wind, current, and because it does not stand on top of the water. Copoly lines are not as dense as straight FC, hence, do not act in similar nature. In regards to the visibility, the analogous refractive properties to water play a large role in its performance in any type of water under any visibility conditions. Sure, it is less of an advantage at night or in murky water, but it still is an advantage. Good Question OP
  6. 12lb yozuri hybrid. It was not terrible memory and did not effect my fishing really. But in comparison, the FC. I mentioned fair far better with manageability and memory among other things. I would pick yozuri over a cheap fc like vicious any day. It also is a pretty useful spinnerbait line
  7. I've said this many times. Buying at least a mid-grade FC removes so many issues with the cheaper brands. Seaguar invizx is a great choice and sunline fc sniper even better. It is well worth the money. While using yozuri hybrid I did not like the memory or sensitivity of the line. Its not horrific, just not even close to performance with a mid grade FC. It shouldn't be, its less than a third of the price. On a good note yozuri is very powerful having breaking strengths almost twice its rating. In conclusion, if you aren't looking to put a lot of money into the line I would go with YZH, if you dont mind spending more than a mid to high grade fluoro is fantastic.
  8. For sure a fenwick elite tech smallmouth. Either the M/XF or ML/F depending on how much cover and how heavy you are throwing. For the reel I'd get tge nicest Shimano that you can afford. The stradic fj is above your price point but the best reel for the money imho.
  9. What exactly did the rep say? Rockchalk is talking about Shimano having to completely replace the gears or at least parts involving the gears. Along with his response, I can hardly see this being the case as it would be a massive hit to Shimano in their pocket books and there would be threads plagued with this issue. A rep speculating about how smooth a retrieve is, is something completely different. This can be presumed as more of a subjective issue especially if you are comparing reels to one another.
  10. Not exactly. As a heavy user of fluorocarbon and believing that all around the line is more sensitive, I still feel that for tight line dragging on the bottom braid offers more feel in this area.
  11. The OP is clearly asking if anyone has EXPERIENCED this problem with the Curado or Chronarch E. To experience something you must have owned it or used it. By account you have never owned a Curado or Chronarch E. Yet, you have a very strong opinion against them. How can you be so against something you have not experienced? I do not understand. OP, I have both the Curado 50e and 200e. I do not own any of the Chronarch E's. I have not experienced any of these problems and I get my reels serviced by a professional. My retrieve actually feels smoother and is quieter than the day I got them. They have broken in better with time in my opinion. Since your issue has occurred with every E series reel and is not a random occurrence with one reel, it might be wise to share the chemicals and process you use to clean and lube your reels. Something may be weakening the components of the gears. I am unsure whether there is a difference in alloys used in the Shimano's you have listed. However, I have not experienced your problem with my older Shimano's or my newer Curado E's. I will be interested to hear if there is a difference in alloys used that is causing the problem.
  12. Seaguar Tatsu and the Pitzen knot
  13. You might have better luck in the fishing tackle section. I think northstar makes better spinnerbaits and jigs. The head design goes through weeds extremely well on spinnerbaits and their flip n swim is my favorite jig of theirs.
  14. I agree with your line brand choices. However, a palomar knot is not the best choice for fluorocarbon. The line crosses back on itself when tying this knot and it weakens the line. There are many good alternatives, I prefer using the pitzen knot. We almost should have a tagged thread about berkley vanish. This thread is almost identical to the one posted not that long ago.
  15. Let me guess.....its a Dobyns. Nice arsenal
  16. Someone did a post a while back on spinnerbaits and their true weights. Most manufacturers spinnerbaits weigh significantly heavier than what they are stated. My loomis MBR844 IMX is just about perfect for 1/2oz rated spinnerbaits. This rod is rated as heavy.
  17. I would take a look at Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth series. The M/XF and ML/F are rods very highly reviewed.
  18. I also prefer my NRX's blue due to the finish. Per everything I have read this is one of the best if not the best dropshot rod. Since I own the SYR I can't make my own comments on the DSR. I will say the Shimano Cumara CUSDX72M makes for a fine dropshot rod. Its action is perfect and I find the extra length useful in many situations. Also, I am very surprised at its sensitivity and versatility. Most dedicated dropshot rods, that is, rods specifically made for dropshotting are not that versatile.
  19. I would not recommend it. You can get by with it in a pinch, but it has a tendency to sink. For proper action, I choose a line that is going to float. Mono is an excellent choice for topwater.
  20. No experience with the premier but FWIW I would go with the curado. Honestly though that isnt a great deal on it. Especially considering you can get the chronarch for that price brand new on sale. However, I would take a used curado e7 serviced and upgraded professionally over both and you'll have roughly the same invested.
  21. I would use a quality fluorocarbon and choose your diameter based on the depth you want your cranks to run.
  22. Bps pro qualifier, H20 mettle, etc. Stick with centrifugal breaking
  23. Shooter is nice line, but seriously what are you fishing for with 22# fluoro? You'll see massive improvements in manageability switching over to tatsu and lowering the strength. Tatsu breaks heavier than rated. Its some tough, manageable line.
