Average Length Of Casts For Bass? The Reason For My Sore Shoulder
You don't need long cast to catch fish. A flip is a short cast and probably catch more big fish then anything. Try a looping side cast, nice and easy. Just do a better job of positioning the boat. Target your fishing spots. I sometimes have an elbow problem. A pressure band around the arm does wonders. Try a shoulder sleeve or se other product. A good drug store with these products may help. Then ease up on the casts.

How's The South Florida Bite? Holiday, Big L Etc..
I have been having some great evening fishing vista view park in Davie. Been catching a number of chunks each evening, with 15 to 20 each evening. I ran into one of our members out there, I nice young guy from Pembroke Pines working on mastering some new techniques. We certainly have a bunch of nice first class fisherman on this site.

Okeechobee First Time/small Boat
If your set on fishing out of Clewiston you can fish the rim canal either north or south of the lock. I would not venture out in the main part of the lake. The wind can come up quick. South of the lock about a mile you have the dynamite hole in which a bunch of quality fish have been caught. I caught a 8 lb fish right at the mouth of the hole and the canal. The hole is deep with allot of old wood in the opening that leads in. I met one of the biggest friendliest gator early in the morning by myself. He won the stair down session and I left. If you go north of the lock you wil hit Uncle Joes fish camp. There is a small canal off to the right. A half mile down there is some good fishing off to the left side. It opens into a shallow flat. Two good spots with good shelter. Watch for big boats in the rim canal. You could run into some 30 footers that put out a big wake. Just be careful and take lots of clean water. Good luck, let us know how it goes. My favorite part of the lake is the Harney Pond area on the west side. Sandy bottom over there.

Sunup Or Sundown
I fish 90% of the time in the morning, but in the summer if I had my choice it would be late afternoon. I have had some great afternoon fishing and you can actively fish until 9:00 and still see at the ramp. Morning fishing it sooooo nice and cool until about 9:00 AM. Then the summer heat sets in. By the time it comes to load the boat its sweltering. Evening fishing is warm until about about 7:00 P.M. and then it finally cools off. When you doing all the work at the ramp its nice an cool in the evenings. I love summer evening fishing!

Do Bass Fear Gar?
In the everglades gar can sometimes become overwhelming in certain areas. I have caught bass with nasty wounds from big gar. They will slash a fish and then come back to finish them off. Gar can also be a sign of poor quality water. Fish will die off or become lethargic from low O2 and become easy targets for gar. Gar will gulp O2 from air and not be effected by poor quality water. You may not be catching bass, because the quality of the water has changed! Gar are a top line predator, their only competition and threat are from Gators. I have straightened many a hook on a big gar. Whatever you do, don't lip one!!!!!!!! LOL

Remembering
Someone on the site brought up fishing with the old zebco closed face reel. 40 years ago, when I first got into the sport seriously, I would use an old zebco 20-20 for all my light weight top water lures. I would use a zebco 20-20 and a 5-6 rod all day long and could throw a light top water a country mile. I think I was a better top water guy in those days then I am now. I had a $30 set up in 1972, and today a rod and reel is over $400. I think just for laughs I'll go back to another zebco 20-20, and a short 5/6 rod and romanticize the old days, and see if it is all just fantasy. Caught a lot of fish on that old stuff and a floating rapala lure. I wonder if it will hold up today????

Fish Hooked In The Throat
Thanks Jeff, those are great pictures on how to do this simple technique. If you learn nothing new this season, learn this technique. This becomes second nature if you fish enough. Do not leave the hook in a fish unless absolutely necessary. I have caught thousands of fish this year, and have never had to leave a hook because of this technique. I have removed some hooks that other people have left in the fish, either intentionally or unintentionally, some of those hooks were there for quite some time. Save some bass, learn this technique!!!!

What Is Finesse?
For me it means down size plastics, use weightless or light weight, Fluorocarbon line, and fish slow. Let the fish have a good look at the bait, decide to investigate, and a slight movement and sit still. Just like a dying organism in an aquarium. They turn on their side make a couple of quick movements and then just lay there. It makes for an easy meal. Works real well when fish don't want to chase a bait.

Florida Guys Check In Here.
Too up your numbers I would throw a 4 inch senko on at least 20 pound braid and throw it back in the cover. Your need the line to get it back out of the thick stuff. Fish it slow and be a line watcher. Weightless with a #3 Gama hook will go through the weeds easily. When it hits the water let it sit.

Where Did The Fish Go In Fl?
Down size and slow down. Try a four inch senko or zoom centipede in watermelon, or junebug. Okeechobee is a hot color down here. Fish it slow, and weightless. No weight will slow the fall and make it dart and shake on the way down. It will fall slower in front of suspended bass, which are some of the hardest to catch. Last but not least I would try another body of water. The Alley has been hot for numbers all winter and it still is to this day. Good luck, when in doubt, SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This Year Has Been Tough
Nice job, alot of people fish those hollow bodies down here in south Florida. Keep your line wet and good things happen.

Alligator Alley Mm 39, North Side
No, I have not been up the river in a while. I know BassinLou has fished it several times recently. Good luck Shane.

Catch And Release Survival Rate
In post #73 you stated Dottie substantiated delayed mortality. There is still no evidence of that, and she could be a victim of simple old age. I respect your opinion, but it is only an opinion, just as death by old age is only an opinion. We must separate opinion from fact, there is a big difference.

Question For The Floridians
Talk to anyone that is familiar with both bodies of water and they will tell you the stick marsh. Day in and day out the stick marsh produces more double digit fish. Just don't put one in the livewell, it will cost you.

Alligator Alley Mm 39, North Side
Sunday 6/1/14, 7:00 - 11:00, cloudy, wind east 5-12, water light stain, levels low. I met up with Dave Canesfan and we went out to MM39 on the Alley. Weather man said thunderstorms, so the alley is the only safe place under those conditions. Just tie up under a bridge, and sit it out safely. Temps were nice with wind at our backs and plenty of cloud cover. We ran to the dead-end and started catching right away. We threw a variety of plastics with good results, on almost all baits. We had a hand full of keeper size fish in the 2.5 size, with many more dinks in the mix. In 4 hours we caught over 80 bass, with loads of doubles and countless consecutive catches. Take advantage of the Alley before the water comes back up. Another fun day on the Alley.

Senko Strikes Again
Zoom Centipedes are much like the 4 inch senko type baits. I fish them the same way. Don't over work the bait.
