  1. ha true everytime i start considering another rod i always think "but its not a denali" thats just how i am, when i find something that works, i rarely leave it. i think im just gonna go with it. i do prefer the biggest and heaviest rod i can get away with on any given technique so this should be fine
  2. Everyone on here knows i am straight up true blue Denali rods believer. But recently ive been stumped. I am in the market for a jig Rod, price is not too big of an issue since i can get a good discount through the college team on tackle warehouse. I'm looking for a 7'3" of a 7'4" rod. i would preferably go with a heavy action. Im really considering the Noirwood slop rod but its an extra heavy. and on here on the coosa i fish some 3/8 oz jigs alot and sometime 5/16 oz. its rated for a 3/8 oz i just wanna make sure i can feel it. this rod will also be used for my jigs as big as 3/4 too. I'm trying to find a sweet medium that will do it all. and i want sensitivity for sure. if anyone has fished the Slop rod please let me know your input. But i might just be willing to break away to a different brand for just this rod even though its hard. i'm super picky about my jig rods so if anyone has anything they would suggest or any info on the slop rod i would greatly appreciate it!
  3. I know I say this everywhere on this sight but I suggest the Denali Rods jadewood series. They are $100 dollars and have a lifetime warranty guarantee. But good luck breaking one...I have nothing but denalis. they are tough as nails, sensitive, and the company is ran by some great people. Yes its a little more than the lightning rods but with the lifetime warranty your money won't be wasted. check them out! http://www.denalirods.com/
  4. I think im going to try the leader first then if i dont like it im going to go to buying a extra spool
  5. what is DVT? and how do i contact him?
  6. Alright guys got another question. Everyone knows im a lews guy but i have a revo stx generation 3 that i bought a couple of years ago. it was good for about 6 months then wouldnt cast very far at all. I've cleaned it and everything. i plan on using this for flipping so i dont have to cast far but would like to know how i can fix it myself to make it work like it used to. should i put boca bearings in? any advice please let me know.
  7. If i were you i would put a abu garcia silver max or black max on a denali jadewood rod. They retail for 100 dollars. and I would suggest the spinnerbait rod. its got the tip to comfortable handle spinnerbaits, and work a topwater, and also has the back bone for worms. great all around rod. and it comes with a lifetime warranty guarantee. Pretty hard to beat in my opinion
  8. i figured it would work just wasnt sure about it thanks!
  9. Anyone who knows me knows that i love to flip and i have had some question about something late that i wasnt sure about. Around here we dont have much cause to use braid but there are times like here recently that we do need it. I generally flip with 20 pound fluoro but that just doesnt cut when i start flipping grass. I dont have the money 2 have 2 separate flipping rods or 2 be constantly changing line. so i was wondering if this would work. If i were to spool my reel with 50 pound braid for the mainline then tie a leader of 20 pounde Fluoro would it work? So that way i can use the fluoro in clearer water then just cut it off if i start flipping grass. I do this with my shakey heads for greater sensitivity but was not sure if this would also work for Flipping. If anyone has any insight please let me know! Josh
  10. hahahahahaha i might have to try that one, telling them i was great at wiggling my worm just right didn't exactly put off the vibe i was hoping for
  11. amen to that, but just as a reminder telling a girl you fish for the college team is not the greatest pick up line
  12. always leave it to sam for the sarcasm and to bring up LSU!
  13. I'm a younger guy myself at 19 and i thought i would give you some advice. I've been fishing my life and tournament fishing for 3 years. i didn't have my first sponsor until about 8 months ago since then i now have seven. Getting sponsors can really help out alot but like others have said all you get is a discount in return for doing alot of work. But you must start out small then work your way to getting a big sponsorship. The best way to do it as a fisherman that doesn't get national recognition like most of us is through social media. Start a youtube channel, Start a facebook page. You would be amazed at what it will do for you. I've done it and it has helped me tremendously. I have had companies tell me that they will not take a pro-staff member unless they can produce videos. Now that i fish BFL's i get a little more recognition. One thing i will tell you is like others have said concentrate on school first! All the way until my senior year i didnt do great at school because the only thing i did was play sports, fish, and chase girls. I had the brains just not the drive. My senior year i had to bust my butt and get straight A's just to get into AUM to fish. So school is so important man! hope this helped! Keep working! you'll get there!
  14. i would say denali jadewood, im a denali man myself and every rod in my boat is a denali, i was notorious for breaking rods and have yet to break a denali, and they are very sensitve too!
  15. i live close to a lake that during the summer is a huge party lake. and its small so its worthless fishing during the day in the summer. so honestly all we do is night fish. Its a really good spotted bass lake so i lures maybe a lil different but this is what i throw on my rods everytime im night fishing: 1.black and blue spinnerbait with a single colorado blade with a blue zoom super chunk trailer (i know its a flipping trailer, but trust me it works, dont ask), 2. black buzzbait 3. 3/8 oz black and blue all terrain rattling jig 4. carolina rig 5.texas rig. My soft plastics vary but i've really fallen in love with rage tail baits at night. I'm gonna have to try a black and blue chatter bait soon.
  16. and just a tip in my experience on my lakes if i throw a bluegill colored one i generally catch bigger fish than one mimicking a shad. just something i noticed. the fish in my profile picture on here came off a bluegill swim jig on the edge of a grassbed
  17. im not the best at it but i would say im pretty good at fishing swim jigs, ive been fishing them for about 2 years and ive kinda figured out what works best for me. I always have one rod rigged with one ready to go at all times. i personally fish all terrain jigs, big fan of em and they have done awesome for me. I was just like you when i first started and was like i can swim all jigs so why do i have to be specific. then after alot of fishing and making many mistakes i realized this. a brush jig is meant to bump into the brush and kind of lift up when you put pressure and roll right over. football jigs sit on the bottom and just bump on rocks and give great feel. when your fishing a swim jig your generally fishing it with a stead retrieve and jerking it. if you go through a tree top and jerk a brush jig really hard it will hang up alot more. the head on swim jigs is built to snake through grass and brush and just slip into those tight spots while coming at relatively faster speed. like i said im not an expert but jigs are just a bait i have alot of confidence in no matter what kind they are. and as far as trailers go for swim jigs i like double tail grubs. ill fish a single one every now and then but usually just kinda stick to what i have had success on. best thing to do is just fish it and see what works for you. but there are my 2 cents. hope it helps! GET JIGGY WITH IT!!
  18. does anyone have a say about the johnny morris reels? ive heard pretty good things about them and im considering getting one, but i want to know alot about it first
  19. thanks alot man, to you and everyone. and yes i already caught my biggest ever spotted bass the first day i took her out, she tipped the scales at about 4 pounds. unfortunately my phone just gave up working and i lost the picture! hopefully there will be many more. ive fished many tourneys before but will be fishing my first one in this on june 1st. im fishing it solo because it just feels right, been on em really well so im excited to see how i do! and thank you to everyone on bass rescource. This site has truly been nothing but a blessing. ive learned so much, about just about everything. its really sped up the learning process and has truly made me a much better fisherman than i was before. Thanks again to everyone and as my dad always says. "if it ain't hard, it ain't worth doin"
  20. thank you everyone! working so hard for something makes getting it so much sweeter. she runs like a dream. and already managed to catch quite a few in her the first day i took her out. thank you to everyone for giving me all the tips yall did in my last post about getting a boat. i used all of them and was able to come up with a good deal.
  21. i havent been here in awhile but i know alot of people replied on my last post about choosing my first boat. Well i finally got one. and after spending hours looking at boats i decided to go with a bigger boat i knew i wanted the storage and speed and size for tournaments. Well i came across an amazing deal and got a 2003 tzx 190 skeeter with a 175 yamaha hpdi. only 198 hours on the boat exactly and man bought it and sat it up but took great care of it. i was cautious and took it to a marine mechanic before buying and he said i should go to jail for the price i got it for. I worked really hard for this and was able to keep up all A's this quarter and work 40 hours a week. Just thought id update all of you that i finally got one! pics are below!
  22. i just looked on the internet for the g3 176 vinyl (thats exactly what i want) and i was able to find some good used ones a whole lot cheaper, i dont have the money yet but im sure i can find some when i do
  23. i actually just got my report card today and had all a's and b's. but yes i understand that exactly and it makes alot of since. but i have now decided i definitely want the 176 G3 vinyl. and im not sure if i can find one used for sale
