Steps to bring your fiberglase back to life STEP 1 == Take all hardware off the top cap, rails,trolling motor,anything that can get in the way of a buffer. STEP 2 == Wet sanding the area you wont redone mix a bucket of three drops of dishwashing detergent with water and then ,start with 1200 grit paper sand the whole area until it is smooth with your hand , wash boat off again and go to 1500 grit paper when its smooth,wash boat off and go to 2000 grit this is a pain to do but it has to be done PS the sanding opens the pores on the fiberglass and that's where the white chalk stuff is hiding so you have to do this to get ride of it. If your boat is not very bad you can start with a higher grit paper like 1800,2000 but if its real bad you may have to start with 800 and then go up,be very careful with 800 do not sand to hard and check with your hand if you see( metalflakes) stop on that area When the sanding is done wash boat off real well and dry it off. Things you will need before you go to the next step 1= 3m waffle polishing pad 2= 3m white pad for compounding/ cutting 3= 3m black pad for glazing/polishing 4= 3m perfect rubbing compound #05973 5= 3m final glase #06066 last any carnauba marine wax STEP 3 == Start with the compound and do the whole area that you sanded,use the high speed buffer and the white 3m pad do small areas and go slow so you don't burn the gel when your done wash off boat again and dry are take a break LOL next use the black pad and do the same thing with the glaze, by this time the boat should look almost new if there wasn't any gelcoat damage ( be sure to cover your carpet and graphs or they will get covered) now the final step is to put a good coat of wax on to finish it up and wash the boat off every time you come out of the water hope this helps you guys and gals out PM me if you have any ??????? Well, I just seen this post so this is a bit late but I had to put my two cents in,i have a 1989 champ 184-DCF/S,with a 1992 Suzuki 150 EFI, this is a great boat it rides good and handles the ruff stuff pretty good,im still working on getting it set up but it will run with any 20 foot boat and the best thing it is paid for LOL
