  1. Also, DJ, I would recommend you drive down Route 3 a little ways and check out Hunting Run Reservoir if you haven't already. I was there this past weekend and it's a breath of fresh air compared to Lake of the Woods. I didn't catch a single fish, nor did I see anyone else catch a fish (and there were plenty of people fishing), but fishing on a lake that actually has some cover (weed lines, tons of submerged timber) was nice. And the absence of swimmers and gas engines was divine. $20-$30 and you got yourself a john boat, battery, motor, seat cushions and peace & quiet for 4 hours. Definitely worth checking out at least once.
  2. My story is similar to yours, DJ. Parents just moved to LOW last year, which is what caused me to get into fishing. Just about every weekend you can find me out on LOW, putzing around in my parents' pontoon boat, trying to figure out what the hell I'm doing. Would definitely be interested in tips, hints, info and fishing with someone at LOW. I've done pretty well this season. Caught two bass over 4lbs and quite a few in the 3lb range. 1-2lbers are standard fare though. Last weekend the spinnerbait and crankbait bite really turned on for me in some of the deeper coves. Had a blast. Up until that point I've mostly been targetting docks with a senko. I really haven't mastered the art of finding and fishing the deeper parts of the lake, though. I'm really interested in the old dam. Need to figure out where it is and hit it when there aren't a bunch of recreational boats in the water. Oh, and there's a contour map online, though it only shows the coves, not the deeper part of the lake. http://www.lowa.org/getmedia/77771a11-14b5-4777-a467-da969a4d09cc/Main_Lake-Contour.aspx
  3. Ah, right, I forgot about that fish habitat map. Here it is http://www.lowa.org/getmedia/5f67b672-e6d4-4570-af55-5cbab232c18b/fish_structure_2007.aspx It's pretty old, so I'm not sure how reliable it is. I imagine most of the organic stuff has disappeared. I'll be out on the lake today and will make a point of targeting some of these.
  4. Hi Gang, I'm fairly new to bass fishing. Grew up putting worms on a hook and catching pan fish but never graduated to the next level. Last year my parents moved to Lake of the Woods in Locust Grove, Virginia, giving me access to a boat and lake. Got a crappy rod and reel as a 10 year anniversary gift with my company, bought a pack of senko worms, and the rest is history. I'm hooked now and spend as much of my free time as I can on weekends fishing. Unfortunately, nobody in my family, nor any of my friends, like to fish. So I'm flying blind, trying to learn anything and everything I can on the internet. Was wondering if there's anyone here on this board that fishes Lake of Woods at all. Looking for tips on anything and everything. Spots to fish, what lures you find work well, ietc... Even looking for someone to fish with. As far as I can tell, the lake is nearly devoid of vegatation at the moment and the only real cover are the docks. I've got no electronics and the only information I have to work with is this depth map http://www.lowa.org/getmedia/77771a11-14b5-4777-a467-da969a4d09cc/Main_Lake-Contour.aspx. So info from someone that actually knows the lake would be a huge help! Anyways, happy to be here and looking forward to learning much and more.
