  1. I have a 7 foot stick pin that I pole with.
  2. First off Minnow is my rank according to the amount of posts I made, not my nickname which is basshead1. If you see under your name it says FRY. I made that same mistake when I started out here too. lol I have not needed to do any maintenance on my motor yet, just got it this summer. I stored my motor for 3 months during kayak tournament season but I just made sure I burned off all the fuel. Some fresh gas and it started right up after sitting. If you google hangkai owners manual there is a guy that started writing one in english but he never totally finished it. I think links to other sites are frowned upon here so i will copy and paste it. It is easy enough to google for yourself though. I highlighted the part you want to know. Thanks to gwebster from some other unnamed board. lol: Hangkai outboard- help to create an owners manual Here is my draft of a practical manual for the 2 stroke 2 hp hangkai. Please amend and republish from your own experiences. Hangkai 2 stroke outboard manual This manual is supplied with no warranty as to accuracy and is simply my best guess as to what to do based on past experience of other outboards and making what I can of the awful manual which came with the Hangkai. If you damage your motor using this manual, I accept no repsponsibilty. there are some questions below, please amend the manual in that or any other respect and reissue so it can be as complete as possible. Does anyone have a source of parts? 1. Summary Advantages Light at 9 kilos empty Prop doesn't turn when at low revs- it engages as you rev up Very cheap Disadvantages Low power Poor quality steel used. You may need to paint your starter cover on the top, remove and grease all bolts when new etc to avoid corrosion. High use of oil- 25:1 is costly and make embarrassing smoke. 2. Getting started Fill from little fuel can which they supply. If you tip all the fuel to the larger side, you can use the small side to add the measured amount of oil per the gauge, then tip to mix the two. There is no fuel tap. Pump fuel through using plastic bubble on the starboard side. When it is hard, pump 12 times more to push it through. Move the choke lever to 'OFF'. In this position the choke is closed for starting. Pull to start. It always takes me about 10 pulls or more, any suggestions? Run the engine with choke lever 'ON' when started. Let it cool by running in idle before stopping it with the red button on the top. If stored outside always cover, and avoid using in salt spray or rain. 3. Service Once at least remove all bolts accessible, grease and replace. Or they may seize. Paint the steel cover on the starter, it will corrode otherwise. Annually before winter Grease clamps , wind in and out. Remove prop and grease shaft. Remove anode, clean or replace, grease bolt. ( But where do we buy another anode?) Remove two bolts near prop to access gear box oil and top up or replace with Hypoid 90 ( this is a guess). Ensure no air bubbles by pumping in the lower end until it comes out the top end, with motor lying at a slight incline. Run it in a bucket of fresh water until all fuel is used up. You may need to have removed some fuel before you start, to keep the time down. Remove dome on starboard side. Fine sponge filter, take out, wash and dry. The Chinese manual refers to a 'colander' but i can't find that. Remove two alan key bolts on starboard side and 3 bolts and nuts. Pull away starboard side cover. The fuel tank is attached, which is why it is better to run it out before this stage. A drop of oil on throttle cable. Remove spark plug. I had to use a 19 mill flat spanner, and to get that in I had to loosen the one alan key bolt which holds the plastic inner cover. Put engine oil in the cylinder, hold a rag over it while pulling starter cord to spread oil. Check gap in spark plug, should be .7. This seems very big, so I am using 25 thousandths which is about .5.Clean it and re-insert. Check gap in the 'magno electricity machine' if you can find it (.05) or 25 thousandths but please tell me where it is! A drop of oil on the moving parts such as pivot etc. Grease nipple 3 strokes. and revolve engine to spread grease. Keep it inside in the winter. Do not keep any mixed fuel. In fact I mix as I top up. In Spring Take out spark plug, pull starter with cloth in the hole or paper to catch oil, clean and refit, or replace it. Add fresh fuel.
  3. I have the Hangkai 3.5 and have no regrets. You got a better deal than me, I paid $360 and I had to wait for it to come from China(4 weeks). I run mine in salt and freshwater and it still looks like new. When I am running down the river I can get it to like 12-13 mph. heh But normal flat water is like 7-8mph in the 10E. It stays cool even down here in Florida during August. A full tank gets me about 2 hours of run time at full throttle most of the time, which is great for a liter of gas. It starts on the first pull once warmed up but takes 2-3 pulls to wake it up and get the gas flowing. Sometimes the throttle grip will stick also. That could be bad if I get thrown out. lol Enjoy your new motor and do some exploring. I get way way back into the creeks.
  4. It gets hot down here but not hot enough to melt polyethylene. Ram x is not supposed to even fade but it may dry out and crack eventually. I know it gets a little softer on those hot summer days. Physical properties[edit]Polyethylene is a thermoplastic polymer consisting of long hydrocarbon chains. Depending on the crystallinity and molecular weight, a melting pointand glass transition may or may not be observable. The temperature at which these occur varies strongly with the type of polyethylene. For common commercial grades of medium- and high-density polyethylene the melting point is typically in the range 120 to 180 °C (248 to 356 °F). The melting point for average, commercial, low-density polyethylene is typically 105 to 115 °C (221 to 239 °F).
  5. I finished the rudder. The rudder is made from some scrap wood I scrounged and an old door hinge and I picked up some paint at WallyWorld($4 krylon camo paint in forest green), a nice match. The hinge is so it kicks up if it hits a stump, rock, ect....
  6. I finally built my rudder. Used some scrap wood I had in the garage and an old door hinge for it to kick up in case of stumps, rocks, ect... The first coat is drying now and I will post some pics tonight or tomorrow.
  7. Both.lol I have a kayak and a Bass Raider and they both serve their purposes. I use the kayak for no motor zones and hard to launch spots that would be a pain for the jon boat, prefer the jon though. If you mostly fish spots off the beaten path then a yak but if youll just be launching at a ramp then jon boat. I got my boat thinking I would fish alone less but it is the same.lol Fishing is better alone I think.
  8. I also have the Walmart 29 size and it gets the job done. I have a 30lb motor and can run all day without even putting a dent in it. I covered 8 miles one day and it was only down to 72%. That is the lowest I have had it.
  9. I am 5'6'' too and have a 12 footer. I think my next will be a 14 footer for the extra speed to cover more area.
  10. I started with an inflatable and then a kayak too. I use the foam blocks when I rooftop on my Hyundai Sonata. I use 2 ratchet straps across and rope for the bow and stern and never had a problem doing 85. It did scratch up the roof a bit but it is just a Hundai.heh I have a trailer and a hitch now for my Bass Raider but I still cartop the kayak.. You can get a hitch online for cheap if you want to install it yourself which was an easy gig and I am not a car guy.
  11. It was rainy and cold here yesterday too. The sun is shining and I am planning on heading out soon.
  12. I also keep a small first aid kit along with a multi tool, full size flat and philips head along with some big pliers with sharp cutters that can cut a hook. My buddy gives me crap whenever he sees me breaking out the jumbo pliers to remove a hook from a sail cat but when he is hooked through the thumb and his kayak handle he will be glad I brought them. Yup that happened before. lol
  13. You will be able to bring a friend too. You can also stand and fish easily. I don't know what part of Florida you are in but down here in the Fort Myers area there are a few electric only spots that are great for fishing and these boats are perfect for them. I also have an outboard and cruise the Caloosahatchee River at about 10 miles an hour no problem. I will be testing it out on the flats of Matlacha sooner or later and I am sure it will do great there too. No regrets here.
  14. I am 200 lbs and have no trouble at all. I also see a couple local guys, one guy is at least 300lbs and the other guy about 200, cruisin around the local fishing hole. It has a 600lb weight limit and will definitely hold more on calm water. Much more stable than a john boat.
  15. Sweet rudder. I like the idea of the trolling motor mount but I need something that will kick up in skinny water or if I hit a stump. I was thinking about using 2 pieces of wood held together with a couple hinges for the mount and pvc for the shaft of the rudder and whatever I find in my garage for the rudder itself and then hold it on with some c-clamps.
  16. I picked up a lowrance x4 pro on sale for $80 and I bought a used handheld delorme gps on ebay for $60 and it came with all the satellite images and charts for my area. Also check craigslist and check it often. The good deals go fast. Good luck.
  17. Thanks for the information here guys. I am shopping around myself, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I like the Nitro myself. Good luck with your choice.
  18. Can you show me more detailed pics of your rudder? I need to build one soon and I need more ideas.
  19. Nice. It looks like it can swallow your head. It's hUUUUUUUUUgeaaah. Where did you catch it?
  20. I am guessing most of you are up north because of the inactivity on this thread. I have been getting plenty of slime on my Bass Raider. Fish Porn I have always fished for bass but snook will eat a bass and they are good eatin. And they fight like a bullet with huge runs and lots of jumps.
  21. My buddy used the Goop idea and it works well. Make sure there is no air trapped or it will ruin the readings.
  22. My drums are in the 3rd bedroom. We just had a third kid so I may be getting kicked to the garage soon. Doh!
  23. I told her that when she talks she scares the fish but it didn't work. She doesn't like catching fish too much but she loves taking pictures with my camera while we are in the boat. And if we are at the beach she will be digging in the sand. lol
  24. Take him and keep him under your wing forever. He will not just remember it forever but it will change the course of his life in a good direction. My fishing partner lately has been my 5 year old daughter and the bonding that happens can not be explained in words. If only I could get her to shut up half the time. That girl can talk and talk and talk........
