  1. I don't agree. But it isn't up to me, nor you. I've done that a thousands times and have yet to have a rod break. Let us know what CS says..
  2. What do you mean it pulls to fast? You only need to use it to move the boat 10' then turn it off. I often fish with my 70# on 100% just so I can make quicker moves.
  3. Had to replace mine a few years ago, went with attwood and have had no issues. Wish i would have gotten one size larger though. Get the biggest size your plumbing will allow.
  4. Throw that squarebill on 14-17# line (if you can) and bounce into as many rocks as you can. When you hit one, stop, let the bait rise for a second then continue. If that doesn't work after a couple dozen casts, try speeding up once the bait hits a rock. Sometimes they want the deflection and quick reaction like a fleeing baitfish. If you can, pick up a KVD 1.5 or strike king series 1 in sexy sunfish. My #1 bait by far.
  5. Check and make sure there is no line trapped under the spool. Then take the rotor off and clean out all of the grease you can see with a Q-tip. Snap a few pictures of the reel and then start taking it apart SLOWLY. Carefully clean all of the grease out with a Q-tip. Pop the handle bearings out while you are in there. Soak the bearings in some break cleaner or parts cleaner for a couple minutes then allow them to air dry for 30 minutes. Put one drop of oil on the inside of the bearings and re-install. Put the gears back in and put 2-3 drops of grease on each gear. Now put the reel back together. Put another drop of oil on each outer side of the bearings when it is together before you put the handle back on. Your reel should be much smoother and much quieter. Remember, grease gears and oil bearings.Don't mix that up or you'll be in there cleaning them again. I like quantum hotsauce for both, but ardent butter grease and oil will work as well if that is all you can find.
  6. Fish with it a few more times and if the guide starts to move or the crack gets bigger then take it to a guy who builds custom rods and have him rewrap that guide. shouldn't cost you but $10-$15.
  7. I have a mojo 7'MHF. Good rod, but a bit heavy (weight wise). I also have a couple veritas and feel they are better rods for the money, especially now when they are on sale about everywhere. Cabelas had them for 69.99, not sure if they still have them or not. The 7'MHF veritas has a bit more backbone but balances better IMO. I like it better.
  8. Exactly. One of my buddies always kids me because when he asks for a knife I say "what kind?". I'm usually carrying a leatherman, full sized folder, neck knife, and boot knife. During hunting season I also carry a big fixed blade in a calf sheath just in case. Takes maybe 2 seconds to pull out a knife and snip the line, then I usually pull out a lighter and burn the tag end unless its really windy.
  9. Very well could be. Looks more like the killi than the longperch
  10. You mean the snap onto the blade (what you tie your line to)? If you have the correct size snap then it should go right on.... should be size 3 in most brands.
  11. I would also go with the daiwa T on sale if you can swing it. Otherwise watch the sales and try to pick up a vendetta in the $50-$60 mark. Watch ebay, you can get some good deals on rods there if you play the auctions.
  12. I'm not really a fan of the zara spook, but it has its place in my box. The super spook jr is one of my favorites. Clear or bone color depending on water clarity. Another one you might want to try is the cabelas walking dawg. Great bait, walks super easy and catches tons of fish. My favorite color on that one is pearl, which they no longer offer. Shiner is a good one though.
  13. If you cannot be bit on those ones you already listed then you are either fishing them wrong or the fish are not on a topwater bite.
  14. One other tip for walking anything...... If you are in a boat try to keep it as still as possible. Drifting while walking can be hard if you are just learning.
  15. You have to watch buying the expensive swimbaits.. you have one thing to deal with that the guys down south do not... northerns/musky. They'll take a $30 swimbait before you can even figure out what happened.
  16. 80# slick 8 breaks at around 130#. A tad bit overkill.. 65# would probably be better
  17. I bought a factory reconditioned cardinal 302 that lasted 6 years of being the crap out of it. Parts started falling off (cosmetic) and it never skipped a beat. Retired it last year, but its still usable. My father bought the cardinal 402 combo and his reel lasted 2 years of babying it before it wore out.
  18. long perch, that's it! Thanks blue
  19. Just like a walleye.
  20. You will be better off calling customer service and talking to them. First they will ask when you bought it and where, have your receipt handy and give the exact date and time. They may have you email a picture of the broken rod and your receipt to the rep you are talking to, so have one loaded on your computer and ready. After its all done they'll charge you $9.99 (credit card) and you'll have a new rod headed your way. Be sure to tell them that you don't want to spend the money to ship them the broken rod unless its absolutely necessary, that will save you $20. Be as nice as possible, refer to the rep by name when talking and thank them for everything and you will get top notch service. They are a stand-up company and will treat you right.
  21. I use the 2# yo zuri for panfish, and caught many spawning bass this spring with it. Held up no problem! The diameters and breaking strength tell me they are 1 size underrated. My 2# has the diameter of most 4# and acts just like a quality 4# line. My 6# feels like 8# and acts like a premium 8#.
  22. #2 is a blacknose dace #1 escapes my memory for the minute... Believe it is perch something. Another type of minnow species commonly found in creeks.
  23. Walleye on a frog rod? Yea right... I'll stick to my 66ml and 66m spinning rods.
  24. Walleye, sauger, crappie, bluegill, even some bass. I'm not picky. They all taste good when prepared correctly.. just whatever's in my freezer at the time. Saltwater has to be grilled mako shark, but we can't get it anymore.
  25. Sure you can. But walmart sells the refill bottle of juice for a few bucks. Will fill that jar many times. Make sure all of them are completely submerged in liquid or they will dry out and be useless. I believe its all the same juice. All of mine smell the same, 1" minnows, maggots, waxies, crickets, 3" minnows, 4" minnows, leeches, etc.
