  1. I have tried almost all of them. MF, LC, BBCP, chemonics, calhoun, and spike-it. My favorites are the chemonics and pourasol. I choose the pourasol purely due to cost. If you are making sticks I would suggest the soft. You MIGHT not have to add any softener with it depending on how soft you like it and how much salt you use.
  2. If it will work without tripping the breakers then you will not need the 60.
  3. Been doing that for years. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Works most of the time though. Be sure to pull from the tip of your rod and not down by the reel or you will have a big mess by the time you get past the loop. Loosen the drag first.
  4. I love ribbits also! They are fish catching machines. To fix the upside down mess I have started using 1/16 weighted shank gamakatsu EWG hooks. The weighted twistlock is a better option, but I picked up a crap ton of the gamas on sale so that is what I use. If it does somehow land upside down, one quick pop of the rod tip rights it.
  5. I'd say around 4lbs. Catch her in the spring and she would be pushing 5.5-6! That is a huge head and a skinny body.
  6. Yes, you can reel them up slowly to avoid it. But it will take you 30 minutes to an hour to reel up the fish.
  7. Right around 35' while ice fishing.
  8. Did you know that when you post a picture, be it private or public, and a friend "likes" it, the picture will show up on everyone on their friends list's feed? So you really do not have any control on who sees your pictures/posts. Also, way down in the user agreement it says facebook has complete control on everything you upload/post. If they deem necessary they can share it with whoever they want. You do not own anything you upload or put on your facebook page.
  9. They look good for your first time, mine looked worse! If they are deforming when you are demolding then you are demolding way too early. Plaster molds take a bit of cooling before you can demold. One suggestion I have is to lose the vaseline and use pam spray if you need it. Did you cure your molds with elmers/water? Lots of info out there on how to seal a POP mold. If sealed properly you shouldnt need to spray it with anything. You are on the right track though. Every time you pour you will get better at it!
  10. Pull up a lake map off the internet, buy a lake map, buy navionics for smartphone, ask some locals, or just go drag a heavy lure around. If you have an android phone, the navionics app was on sale for $0.99. It has nearly every lake in MN. It does not have to be in the middle of the lake, just an offshore ledge, rock bar, sand bar, or point where baitfish are running. This time of year the baitfish go deep to find some cooler water, the bass and walleye usually follow. One lake I fish in MN, I can fish the banks, boat docks, and boat lifts all day long and catch 1-2lb fish. But there is one particular rock bar out off a midlake point that holds big fish in the summer.
  11. FFO tackle sells the black/silver max for super cheap in their reconditioned reels section if you do not mind a couple scratches. I would not pay the $50-$70 retail for one though. I have used them and they are alright, they are what they are.. a $50 class reel. They are not as smooth as a $150+ class reel but they are not supposed to be. For a general weekend warrior, I think the silver or black max would be just fine. I was playing with one in the store an hour ago, they must have upgraded something because they feel better now than they used to. Yes, the lews and pro qualifier are both better reels.
  12. Just hit up my walmart again today for the $1 bin, bought the rest of the spooks in bone and a couple in clear. They still have a bunch of clear ones. Bought some more of the poppers too and grabbed a couple bags of yum f2 creature baits for a buck a bag. Be sure to check the clearance aisle and not the fishing dept, the fishing dept has NO SALES except for a couple shakespeare rods at my local walmart. The sales are in the clearance aisle. I think 25 should do me for a while on the spooks/PopR. 25 for the price of 5 is not a bad deal. They are factory seconds, no doubt about that. The package is labeled "hardbait" and nothing specific. But there is nothing wrong with a factory second topwater, I checked them over and could not find any flaws but a misaligned eye or a scratch in the paint. I would probably not buy a diving crankbait if it was a factory second though.
  13. Sounds like not much food. Pike, bass, walleye, and crappie will all fight for the same food when they are small. I will guarantee you there are big ones in that lake, and I will also guarantee you the majority of them are schooled up and off on some point or ledge in the middle of the lake while the little ones cruise the shore/boat docks. Find some big pike and you will find bigger bass. If a bass can coexist with a 30" pike, he has to be bigger than 14oz or he is a meal.
  14. Tighten that drag!
  15. Re-read my post and then reply again. You obviously didnt understand it at all.
  16. Yes, good stuff. Get one formula stiffer than you would use with another brand. So if you like soft, get medium pourasol.
  17. The bad thing about walmart batteries is that they are warranted for 2 years and if you get 4 you are lucky. The last time batteries were bought for my boat was in 2005. That is 8 years so far and going strong, although I think the starting battery is starting to get weak. If a cheap battery only lasts half as long as a good one, you are not saving any money.
  18. I have the same motor and have had great luck with interstate 27 deep cycle. I can troll for walleye for 2 days with it without getting below 50% charge.
  19. In Illinois a conservation officer may search a home at any time without a warrant if he believes there are fish and/or wildlife in possession. But they will, almost every time, get a search warrant signed off on so they can seize other items as well as the fish/wildlife. All they have to do is see you fishing and they can search your home for fish.
  20. Try a sharpie to touch them up, and then put clear nail polish or 2 ton epoxy over it as a clear. White out for white. Personally I just remove the skirt, hit the head with some paint thinner to remove the paint and then hit it with a rattle can (spray paint) and then devcon 2 ton over it. For ones I start from scratch I power paint.
  21. I dont know. I googled the address and it came up as a vacant lot. Google might have the address wrong, dont know. I'd call and talk to them if you are really interested.
  22. That is bullcrap. If he was law enforcement then he was a very uninformed officer! If he was a cop then I was the prince of Nigeria. Look at his posts (the ones that have not been removed), all but two are negative towards someone.
  23. A regular policeman can ask for it but you do not have to give it. If you say "I dont have one" they will radio the DNR. The city does not have any control on waterways, just land. The county sheriff and his deputies can enforce fish and game laws as they have control of the waterways as well as the land. The DNR can and will search any part of your house if they have reason to believe you have fish or wildlife in possession. But that is it, that is all they are allowed to look for without a search warrant. If they open a drawer and find a kilo of crack cocaine they cannot do a darn thing about it. If you refuse them access to your home you will be placed in custody while they do their search, and depending on what kind of a guy you have been they will either let you go or haul you off to jail.
  24. Take your batteries to autozone or any other place that does free checks. They will be able to tell you if they are good or not. It sure sounds like you have something that is not shutting off completely, that is called a ghost draw. Even when everything is turned off, something is using juice and draining your battery. Are all of your electronics, livewell, dash, everything connected to one lead that runs to the battery? If so, wire in a master switch to that positive line. That way when you are not using the boat you can flip the switch and kill everything completely so nothing can take any juice.
