  1. I spent 2014 split between Beltsville & The NOC with dismal results on both lakes. I chalk it up to it being my first year fishing or I’m using the wrong boat! LOL I didn’t get a chance to fish any of the cribs because I lost my garmin handheld while bike riding. I did spend a lot of time watching where others were fishing & you would see the same boats in the same spots week after week. Also while in the parking lot I made it a point of talking to whoever stood still long enough, trying to get insight. I’d have to agree, folks don’t use their electronics & nobody I’ve talked to knew about the cribs. Yes the pilings get heavy pressure mostly because people don’t have to think. They know fish are "supposed to" relate to structure so as soon as they hit the water they beeline it for the pilings & 10 mins later they are off someplace else. Another month until the Outdoor show @ Oaks PA!!
  2. Great photos! Gives me something to dream about. I’ll be up there next Sat. Unfortunately I can’t tell from your photos where exactly you were on the lake. If I can put one in the box like that I'll be happy.
  3. Just getting back into fishing now so I guess what I love is spending a ton of money on stuff I didn’t need 35 years ago but turns out I can’t live without
  4. Hello Folks, I’m looking over a DCNR map of Lake Nockamixon Fish Habitat Structures. It show the placement of the structures with GPS coordinates. Porcupine Cribs Rock Rubble Humps etc For the wooden “Porcupine Cribs”, anyone know the life expectancy of these structures? I’m sure they didn’t use pressure treated wood. Looks like most were deployed around 2005-2008 but some are from the late 1990s. Anyone find these & fish them? Are they productive or a waste of time? I've attached the map here. thanks Lake Nockamixon Fish Habitat Structures.pdf
  5. Thanks for the input. Without revealing your sweet spots is there any general areas more productive than others. I plan to launch from Preachers Camp. I understand east & north of the ramp is supposed to be no wake zone. Do boater generally respect that? Is it enforced? Do you know how far up Wild Creek Cove & Pohopoco Cove you can get with a 16’ bass boat? Can’t really find much of anything about water depths. Thanks!
  6. Okay great! Just look for the guy with gray hair wearing a flannel shirt & driving a pickup. Oh wait that’s most of the people there! Just PMed you.
  7. I live about 1 mile from the Nock & have a seasonal campsite a couple minutes from Beltsville. Haven’t fished either yet. Haven’t fished anything in 35-40 yrs since I had my ronco pocket fisherman. At the end of last year I bought a new Crestliner Storm. Anyone going to the Outdoor show @ Oaks PA this weekend. I need some help spending $$$ on all the gear I’ll need & probably some I don’t really need! I've spent the winter watching everything I can on youtube & WFN to come up to speed.
  8. I’m really not an audiophile, but I really like the sound. I generally don’t like playing music loud regardless of where I’m at. Had it playing for about 3 hrs yesterday via Bluetooth from my cell phone during XMs Bluegrass Junction's “Truegrass”. If the fish can sense it, I can’t see how they could not like Bill Monroe or Flatt & Scruggs. I got mine @ Costco for $59. Saw it elsewhere for $79 to $99. I was going to get a conventional set of outdoor speakers & a stereo unit for a ATV/UTV for about $250 total. Saving a ton of money using this speaker & my cell phone which will now be used at the big February outdoors show @ the Greater Phila Expo ctr.
  9. Hello Folks Have a little disagreement going on with the DW. I just got a ECOTXBT Bluetooth waterproof speaker so I can stream XM from my phone while on the boat. She says the fish will feel the vibration through the hull & get spooked. My argument is, At a moderate level by the time the vibrations get dispersed through the entire hull what makes it to the water will be negligible. Casting 40’ from the boat while fishing say top water lures the fish will not be bothered by any vibrations from the speaker. The vibrations from other passing boats will be greater than what is produced by the speaker. Just looking for some feedback Thanks
  10. Hello Folks, Was at a estate sale over the weekend & picked up a Shimano Sedona 2000FA reel & Invincible X-cell 2, 6’6” graphite “lite action” rod for $10. They look like they’ve never been used. Not sure if they were originally a pair or not & not finding anything on line about the 2000FA except on ebay. There has to be something different about the ebay 2000FA reels because they are going for $130 to $150. Is the ebay price the actual going rate for the 2000FA & is this a good rod/reel for a beginner, fishing Nockamixon in Bucks county PA? If those ebay prices are right, then lucky me! Have to take the wife to the mall next Sat. Was planning on hanging out @ Dicks while she does her thing. What kind of line should I get for the Sedona? Thanks!
  11. Thanks All! I'll try not to ask too many stupid questions. tomustang, I Bought the 16 Storm which has a max of 50 hp. However I took the factory stock 4 stroke 20 hp Merc. because that's the limit on Nockamixon. It seems to be enough (for now). I can get on plain & reach 20 mph when I'm the only one in the boat. Not sure why Nockamixon is limited to 20 hp when Beltsville is unlimited? Both lakes are about the same size.
  12. Hello Folks, I’m new to the forums & would have to say for the most part totally new to fishing. I live in eastern PA about a mile from The Nock. Having just turned 50, instead of buying the “red convertible” I bought a 2013 Crestliner 16 Storm. Now it’s time to learn how to fish! Last time I picked up a fishing pole was about 40 yrs ago fishing for sunnys in the pond down the road from my house. I’m reading the articles on BR & looks like canned corn & hotdogs just won’t cut it anymore. I already feel I’m in way over my head & I haven’t even walked into Cabalas yet. dave b
