Hello all, first time posting and looking for some advice.
I tried the search and couldn't find anything so my question is how to fish old quarry ponds/(holes) that vary in depths from shallow to 150+ feet of clear water. The company that I work for recently purchased an old quarry that has 2 ponds on it that were stocked with up to 5 different species of fish. The one pond is maybe an acre and only 20-25 feet deep, the other is 3+ acres and probably 150+ feet deep. The smaller pond is slated to be filled in, so we are fishing out the smaller pond and transporting the fish to the bigger pond, cause there's no timetable as to when that will be filled in because of permits and fees.
My question is how do fish an old quarry? Most of it has steep drop offs with little to no structure, but clear water to atleast 10+ feet. We are catching fish everytime we go out, but how do we find the big ones that are there? We have a boat so that helps us cover more area, but we would like get the bigger ones into the other pond along with the smaller ones. As of last night we filled the livewell, throwing soft plastics against the rock face and letting them sink to the bottom and getting them, but they were only 10-18", but we can see bigger bass, they just aren't interested. We also catch "pan sized" blue gill alot, they're alot of fun also.
Sorry for the long post.
