Most of the lures I use have been named already but the tube jig is one of the most consistant producers for me. Here's a couple tube smallies from last week. As you can see I was a little surprised/excited by the bigger one.

When I think "truck gun" I lump it together with "boat gun". To me its any gun you dont mind getting a little beaten up and a gun you could take out of the truck and put in the boat without attracting attention. Usually something a little less expensive. Maybe something like a Highpoint. They're heavy and sloppy but they work.

haha yeah I know but if there were already 2 get togethers there I didn't think people would want to go again. Just figured it was centrally located. If I could pick anywhere though it would be St Clair. Hands down the best bass fishing trip I've ever taken was there.

Bull Shoals?

Two things. First if you don't start with some basic plan in anything your doing then your not doing it the best you can. These "rules" are just a basic starting point for a plan of action. Ever here the saying "If you fail to plan you plan to fail"? The same holds true for a day of fishing. That plan doesn't always work but at least its a start. Second, if you want to identify the real "hype" then look no farther than all the lures out there right now. All this talk of what baits to throw and which ones work at which times... None of that matters if your fishing in the wrong places. Fishing the right area is 90% of it. After you figure that out you could throw any number of lures to catch bass. Yes there are some lures that are better to reach certain depths and cover but focusing soooo much on lure choice is totally missing the real challenge in bass fishing. Find your niche in bass fishing whether thats finesse or power fishing or whatever and use THAT confidence presentation, when possible, wherever the bass are that given day.

Get a kayak and just put the bass boat out of your mind. A kayak will open up a whole new world of fishing to you. Oh by the way one of my top producing places is a small river that has a canoe/tubing business on it. On an average day I'll see 50-100 people, usually 1 or 2 of them are fishing and they are just a casual bobber fisherman. This river holds a lot of fish and just like anything else they are totally used to the people floating over top of them. In fact more than once I have caught smallmouth directly under a canoe. I don't mean to harp on small rivers specifically. A kayak will put you in some great places and before you know it you'll be wondering why you ever wanted a bass boat. I was in your exact same position about 10 years ago and bought my 1st kayak. Now I kayak fish almost exclusively.
