For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
May dad and I went to Wolf Creek for the first time on Sunday, what a unique experience. We didn't get on the water until about 10:30am but we caught smallmouth steady until 5:00pm, mostly on a wacky rigged senko. We also caught some on a Ned and shaky head, but the wacky produced the biggest and most consistent. We caught around 35 smallmouth several over two pounds but the biggest was 2.60 and 17 inches. We caught most fish on the rip rap about 15ft off the bank, but also found fish in 2ft of water back in the coves. I had one largemouth hooked but it spit the hook out right as we were trying to net it, probably 4-5lbs. Great experience, I'll be back!

I have been thinking about trying this lake out, curious to what you were throwing? I can't think of two many days where I have caught more than 10 bass, 50 is impressive. Thanks

Hey guys I am still pretty new to fishing on the lakes around here and public lakes in general(grew up fishing smaller private lakes). After really struggling so far this year I wanted to see if anyone on here had any suggestions. i fished three days over the past week at Jacomo and Blue Springs and only came away with two small bass. Water temp was 67-70 and suprisely clear. I fished the pockets with soft plastics, buzz bait, soft jerk bait mostly. Tried a spinner bait and swimming jig today. does that sound right or is there another approach that would be better at this water temp? thanks

When do you expect the Bass to start spawning around here, or have they already? Also what patterns should we be fishing right about now in this area? Thanks

Thanks for the information, that makes me a feel a littler better about the lakes I've been fishing. Yes I am open to fishing in Kansas, I think the non resident licensee is $44 which I can live with considering Jackson county charges around $80 to fish our county lakes. With this time of year what lake in Kansas do you recommend? Also I have seen some of you talking about a bladed jig, is it the same as a chatterbait? That is something I have never used but am interested in, when would you use it and how is the retrieve? Thanks for the help

Hey I moved to Lees Summit from central Arkansas a couple years ago but have only been bass fishing around here since last summer when I bought my boat. I have struggled much more than expected but am encouraged by the stories and pics you all have posted on here. I would really like to learn from some of you let me know if anyone ever has a seat open or would want to come along with me. I have a Triton x17 aluminum bass boat. I would also be interested if anyone is in a local club that is accepting new members. I have mainly fished longview and prairie lee with a couple trips to truman and Cygne, but am open to trying out some other lakes. Thanks Jeremy 816-835-6630

I'm still new to the lakes around KC, does anyone have any suggestions on where to launch at LOZ for bass/crappie. I'm coming from lees summit and looking for the closest ramp that should be a productive area to fish. Also looking for any other suggestions on the best lakes to fish within 1.5 hours-2 hours from lees summit. Thanks

I didn't go too far up into the river, I went up the left side a little ways north of the spillway where the channel hit the bluff but not any further.

I almost got skunked today at La Cygne until I snagged a shad with my jerkbait:) I fished five hard hours using jerkbaits, spoons, lipless, shakeyhead, jigs......not a bite. Water was about 49 degrees on the north side of the lake, and around 40 down by the dam. It was pretty rough conditions(high wind and lots of pressure), but I expected to do better my first time out. On the bright side it was a very decent drive for me(1 hour) and I really liked the lake, I plan on going back. Does this lake produce in spring and summer as well? Anyone else know of anyone that went today, how did they do?

I just answered my own question realizing I will need a kansas license, sorry that was a dumb question. Does anyone know where in La Cygne I can buy a fishing license? Thanks

With the 55 degree forecast for tomorrow I'm thinking about trying out La Cygne for the first time. I am traveling from Lees Summit, do any of you have any suggestions for a first timer on this lake? Any special permits required? Where should I launch? Any lake location or lure suggestions? Thanks and I will be sure to share my results.

Prairie Lee lake report I've fished Prairie Lee in Lees Summit three times over the past two weekends and it's been brutal, I only put one small bass in the boat. Water temp has been 50-53 so am I correct most bass should be in their winter pattern with an occasional visit to the shallows when it warms up? I've been trying to fish the bluffs and rock areas, mixing in some points with no luck. I've tried jigs, Carolina, spoons, drop shot, alabama, no such luck. While I'm still learning to use electronics I think I see fish schooled up and suspended but I can't get them to bite. Is my approach correct or is there another strategy I should be using? Thanks

Those are some great looking fish, also like the look of your chatter bait.

Fall Struggles
Good news I more than doubled my production from yesterday, bad news I only caught one small fish:) I did get to use a fluke for the first time which I caught the on fish on, I really enjoyed it and can't wait to use it next spring and summer. I saw a lot of bait fish schooled out in open water in 4-10ft from the surface, with suspended fish underneath. I threw everything I had but couldn't get them to bite(calm and sunny). Ive been working learning to use my electronics and drop shot, I found one ledge that was holding some fish about 10ft deep I drop shotted to the point to where all of the fish left, I know I had to be hitting them with it. It is my goal to get to the point to where I can find fish offshore with my electronics and catch them, haven't got there yet but I feel like I am understanding what I am looking at more.......maybe next weekend.

Fall Struggles
Thanks for all of the great feedback. I'm going to try and slow it down tomorrow and see how I do, I plan on throwing a lot of football jig and Carolina rig. Also going to try a super fluke and jerk bait for the first time. I'm also going to use my electronics and find out what depths the bait and fish are holding. How do I find the thermocline, I keep reading that?
