  1. What is the rule of thumb when using fine wire vs superline? I just bought some Berkeley EWG 5/O hooks and noticed they say superline. Looking at them they are much thicker than my gammy ewgs. I had planned to use them for 4.3" keitechs. Will this work fine or should I switch to fine wire?
  2. Wow thanks for dropping knowledge, your posts are always well informed. I'll have a look at the rods you mentioned. I happened to buy my son an Abu Garcia Ike little dude rod and he loves it. Maybe I should get a matching rod I think the gander mtn rod you mentioned is on sale for $49 currently marked down from $100.
  3. Thanks. I figured the vortex rods were going to be the first rods I needed to upgrade. Looks like most of the rods you mentioned are north of $100. Looking to stay south of $100..but i guess you gotta pay to play.
  4. Hello all, i'm wondering if i can get some help on my current gear, and future gear. Let me know if the rod/reel combos below are setup adequately. Also, i'm looking at replacing the $20 gander mountain rods with something a little more sensitive, and under $100. I mostly fish out of a boat around a lot of docks and in the Potomac river. Also recently got into kayak fishing. I find myself catching most fish with my plastic swimbait setup, and lost a few on my carolina rig setup. 1. 6'6 BPS Tourney Special Rod/Reel MF combo, 12lb Pline fluorclear. Currently have a chatterbait on this rod and mostly use it for crank baits. 2. 6'6 Berkley Lighting rod MHF with a Daiwa Lexa 100HL, 15lb Yo-zuri hybrid. Currently using this for my carolina rig setup. 3. 6'6 Gander mountain vortex rod MH with a Daiwa Lexa 100HL, 15lb Yo-zur hybrid. Currently using this for my weighted swim baits/t-rigs worms 4. 6'6 Gander mountain vortex rod MH with BPS pro qualifier 15lb yozuri hybrid. Currently using this with a spinnerbait.
  5. thanks guys. i've been fishing aquia creek for some time now both kayak and on the boat. how hard is it to find places along that potomac that are good spots to catch bass? Should I just look for shade and cover areas, or should I look where other boats are parking out and fish those areas
  6. I just recently bought the fs12t as my first kayak. It does everything I need it to do. It is a beast though, but the stability on it is insane. I haven't quite made it to many standing positions but I've fished comfortably for hours.
  7. I have a tracker pt165 which I believe is close to 17 feet long and always mostly fish with two adults. Have been doing it comfortably for many years.
  8. I'm in stafford and mostly fish the potomac since I have a launch a mile away in Aquia. I'm thinking about making my way down to Hope Springs marina and getting closer to the potomac. Are there any recommended spots to fish on the potomac in my area, and are there any other lakes besides Lake Anna to fish out of? I have a 2013 165 with 40hp Merc, so restrictions might apply.
  9. Traps for stripers? Never heard of that sounds pretty cool. Im in centra VA and mostly fish local lakes and the Potomac river.
  10. Thanks. I had no idea about the 'anode' i'll be sure to google what it looks like this evening. The tracker i'm looking at is 5 mins from the water in Lunsby MD.
  11. Looking at purchasing my second tracker. The pro 165 i'm looking at has red trim, and a motorguide trolling motor. I thought all trolling motors on the later year models came with a minn kota, and i've never seen the red trim? Is this rare, or could it possibly been painted?
  12. Looking at a 2013 Tracker Pro 165 w/40hp Mercury. The boat has been used in combination fresh and salt water. Original owner says he flushes the motor, and washes the boat after each use. Boat looks to be in great shape from the pictures and i plan on driving over an hour to have a look tomorrow. Is there anything I should look for when purchasing a boat that was used in salt water? I only plan to fish fresh water in the future and this will be my second tracker.
  13. I'm probably the worst knot maker in the world, so I stick to clinch and improved clinch knots. The idea of knotting off two lines scare me. Can I use a barrel swivel on braid to use with a fluoro leader?
  14. Thanks. I have a lot of vegetation/fish docks where I am at, so i was thinking a dedicated top water rod/reel combo. I mainly fish for bass, but there are a lot of snakeheads in my part of the water as well. Landed my first snakehead a few weeks ago on a swimbait that would have been fun to bring in on a kayak. I don't own much for spinning gear, is that something i should invest in out of my kayak? Most of the poles are outfiited with Daiwa Lexa's/BPS qualifiers and 6'6 MH berkley rods. Combination of PLINE, and suffix 832 braid throughout my gear.
  15. I'm used to fishing out of my tracker, but going to be purchasing a kayak memorial day weekend. I want to keep my supplies limited to only 3 poles if possible. What is the bear minimum recommended? Thanks.
  16. So I recently had an issue with an older motor guide where the motor would rock furioulsy after about 10-15 seconds of operations at high speed (4+). After I let off, it would go fine again for another 10-15 seconds and shake furiously again. Now, i recently replaced the motor guide with a new minn kota 45 edge and it is doing the same thing. On lower speeds its not bad, however on speed 4 and 5 i can only get about 15 seconds of solid use. I've posted a video, any information would be great. By the way, it is installed on a 99 bass tracker 165. https://www.dropbox.com/s/qugvd6phxmxbg ... M.mov?dl=0
