  1. SO recently I have been fishing this new bass river close to my college, just to escape from midterms and studying. I have no idea what works in rivers, but have been experimenting everything. Yesterday I had the great idea to Carolina rig a fluke, and drag it along the river bottom. I've never fished a fluke Carolina rigged only weightless Texas rigged, but decided to give the rig a shot since I read on this website how effective a Carolina rig could be. After two casts, I pulled in a nice smallie weighing roughly around 2lbs. I had no idea how or why this technique works, but was able to instill more confidence in the fluke. That one fish was a plus to my confidence that day. Later, my fishing buddy decided to give me this bait called a brushhog. This brush hog was only about a two or three inches long, and I had zero confidence in the lure. I decided to rig it with a 1/16 oz bullet weight, and 1/0 EWG worm hook. After seeing some huge bass swim and patrolling around, I thought it'd be fun to shake the bait in front of the bass just to see a reaction bite. Now I'm not sure if i was fishing this bait right, but I felt the weight of the bass on my line, and managed to pull in a largemouth roughly weighing around 4 lbs. My last two fish of the day were caught by reeling in the brushhog at top speed, and almost a skipping like action across the water triggered the bite. I'm not saying I got lucky with the bites, but I feel as if i discovered two new tactics to fishing these lures, without any prior knowledge. Anyways, I threw one of the bass back cause it was to small, and went home for that day. All in all, a good fishing day for me.
