Try changing up a hook size if your crankbait seems to have hooks on the smaller side... The Bomber square A for example.

A great beginner bait casting combo is the shimano zeles, its a 6.5 gear ratio right hand reel on a medium heavy, fast action rod. I can't tell you what would be best for you, you have to find that out but I'd definitely recommend that you check it out.

What lures do you guys feel you are best at using and can make produce strikes in any conditions! For me its squarebill cranks, I have gotten pretty good at working them and I can catch fish on them pretty much everyday!

I usually start with a spinnerbait and if that doesn't work I switch to a different spinnerbait. Haha

Maybe your hooking into gar or pickerel. Sometimes I'll set the hook on a gar or pickerel and never even feel the weight of the fish before their teeth cut my line.
