I use a weighted hook on craw baits and things like the Berkley theif/beaver tail style baits. It give them sort of a swimming/gliding action as they fall and that's when I get most of my bites. It also slows their fall a lot and that gives it more time in front of the fish I feel. On brush hogs I usually use a very light t rig for the same reason, it slows the fall. Keep in mind, I'm not fishing in anything deeper then six to eight feet as I'm primarily a bank fisherman. so I don't need to wait for it to fall to 20 feet deep or anything.
