  1. Stick Marsh is my home lake. Being from Boynton, just how well do you know the lake? As RW said, it's dangerous. If all you're going to do is idle, you'll be fine. Medical emergency? Yeah, you be screwed! LOL My buddy decided to fish it ALL night a few years ago. It was nothing to write home about. My main concern with fishing there at night would be my tow vehicle in the parking lot. I did talk to another dude a few years back that was on the Farm side at night and had a couple dudes standing on the East levy fire off several rounds at him and then just kept walking down the levee. Will that happen to you? No, but it's kind of freaky that it happened to this guy. Come armed and be ready to pull the trigger if you decide to embark on this adventure. I would advise against it..................
  2. Stand on bank. Cast into water. If no bite, cast to your right. If still no bite, walk down the bank. Repeat process. If still no bite, rob a liquor store or sell a kidney to generate enough cash flow to fix troll motor. Always remember.....the BEST fishing spots will get you a trespassing ticket and a summons to appear if caught.
  3. AC Delco used to suggest 15 amps for their batteries. 2 amps is not enough. A deep cycle needs to be hit harder than 2 amps. The theory that 2 amps is being "easier" on the battery is total hogwash urban legend. Always charge when you get home. A battery that's at less than full charge will experience plate sulfation if left in a discharged state. Always try to NOT let your batteries be discharged past 50%. Although deep cycles are designed to be ran down and recharged over and over, running them down past 50% affects their lifespan. No, they don't have a "memory" either. That is also urban legend. Memory effect only applies to NI CAD batteries.
  4. Even if you were to buy a brand new top of the line Ranger, Basscat, Legend, etc, it would take you the first year to get all of the bugs worked out of it. Guys on here who have never owned a big rig probably think I'm nuts LOL Trust me, every new boat has problems. Let someone else get those problems straightened out AND take the hit on depreciation. The new Ranger tin boats are very nice, but very expensive. Might I suggest taking a look at an Xpress? They are very well built, all aluminum, no wood anywhere, welded, have a pad type hull, and run like a glass boat. I've fished out of G3 and Tracker boats. My opinion is that I would steer clear of them. They don't compare to Xpress in build quality or performance. Good luck!
  5. Hey Memphis! Just wondering, are YOU a firefighter?
  6. Ok, let's try again.......... Do people look at maps or do they already know where to go when they hit the lake? That's a question that could go either way. Nobody here can answer that question for you. You want us to share our expertise so you don't "waste time" on the water????? There's no such thing as wasting time on the water. It sounds to me like you are like most kids these days. You don't want to have to put any hard work into anything and just want instant gratification. That's not how it works. You can NOT learn how to fish sitting behind a computer. You can find all kinds of good info here and at other sites, but unless you work at it, you'll never be any good. You received some very good info here, but are rejecting it. Good for you. I hope it works out for you. Goodbye.
  7. Color doesn't matter. Don't be a victim of their marketing. I have people approach me at the ramp and ask what color are they hitting. This is the wrong question to ask. The proper question to ask is what depth are the fish at!!! If you tell me the depth, I can figure out which lure I need to effectively fish at that depth and of course the color doesn't mean much at all. Simple, ehh? Don't overcomplicate fishing.............
  8. Fish BFL's etc as a NON boater. Pay attention. Ask questions when it's appropriate, but don't be annoying. Find a fishing partner who knows more than you do. A LOT more than you do. Again, ask questions. Don't argue. There's nothing worse than knowing a lot about something (not just fishing) and having someone who doesn't know squat about said subject ask you for help and then argue with your advice. Be careful with dock talk. Strangers will often give you bad advice so you don't get on the pattern that's actually working for them. Not always, of course. Fish as much as you can. Don't let their marketing confuse you into buying every lure known to man. You don't need all of them. You don't need 68 colors of each type of crankbait you own. Keep it simple. When I used to guide, I was amazed at how complicated people made fishing. You're never going to completely figure Bass out. Don't worry, neither has KVD or anybody else on this Earth. If they claim they have, they're lying to you. There will be days when the best fisherman on your lake won't catch squat. It will happen to you too. It happens to all of us, even the top pros. I've watched them scratch their heads down here in FL. LOL Do as Starcraft1 says. Take a boaters safety course and ALWAYS wear your PFD with KILLSWITCH attached. Many a boater has been ejected and drowned or was ran over by their own boat because they didn't have their killswitch attached. It CAN happen to YOU.
  9. I can tell you one thing, there's no way I would go skinny dipping if there were Gar in the area.
  10. If your parents have the money to buy you a boat, truck, entry fees, ect ect ect, I say go for it. Then when you figure out that you're not gonna make it, fall in love with a girl who derails your game plan, or mom and dad put the kabosh on financing your "dream", you can go to school and then get a job or start a business like the rest of us. Take it from someone who used to fish for money(guide), nothing will ruin your lifelong passion for fishing quicker than trying to make money at it. Sorry to be so blunt.
  11. I've used the taste test for battery acid for years. Now I use AGM's and don't have to worry about that anymore.
  12. Maybe it's just me, but I have to have all my reels the same brand/model. I carry 8-10 rods with me and I don't like to pick up a rod and the feel and performance not be the same as the one I just set down on the deck. I keep hearing about the lews, but it's hard for me to stray away from Shimano because parts are readily available and I know how to strip them down to the frame with my eyes closed. Rods are a different story as we all know you need different lengths/actions for different lures.
