Just a thought but when we hook a fish and are not sure if he'll live or not. He becomes supper a few night down the road. Then you know he was not a waste, not what you wanted but better than living him to die.

I'd have to say Roland Martin on any of the big bass lake in south FL. My dad and I used to love his fishing show back the the 80's ahh son.

I do want to keep the reels they where my dads best stuuf he had before we got outta fishing. And now that he is not with us anymore I like to fish with his old gear. It is better than my old stuff so I have put three rod/reels back and upgraded per say to his old stuff. I have one one rod /reel set-up I got a month or so back. A Crucial Spinnerbait rod with a Lews Speed reel. The local fishing shop has a guy that does the work (clean and lube) for 13-15 dollars, that doesn't include any needed parts. I may upgrade the spinning rod /reels but I'm also trying to figure out how you guys use a baitcaster for casting the 1/4oz and less lures and weightless worms. My dad always used spinning gear for the light lures and such.

I'm considering having all my old reels cleaned and lubed over the winter months when I'm hunting in lieu of fishing. The reels are the old Bantam reels made for Shimano. The black magnum type reels from the late 80's. I have (4) of the reels that all still work well. I also have a Shimano spinning reel from that time period and Shakespear spinning reel. The spinning reels all work fine but one is really gritty feeling when retrieving the bait.

Tell me the good point of Yo-Zuri Hybrid line. I've never seen any at my local shops or Wally world. But I bet the Bass pro up the road has some. The price looks good cheaper than triline or stren.

The rods I have, have got the big guides compaired to my baitcasting rods. I only spooled them up with 12# cause that was what I had at the time. I just started back fishing after a 20 year brake. Most the rods and reels I have are from the late 80's. They where middle of the road stuff back then. I'm going to have them all cleaned and lubed up by a local shop during hunting season. I do think I'm going to re spool the two spinning rigs with 8# line and see how they act.

1/4oz or less I guess. The lightest would be just a wrom hook and worm.

I'm looking for a set-up to throw very light weight stuff from weightless worms to very light baits. Right now I have two older spinning reels I use for this but I thinking my problem is I have 12# mono spooled on them. I thinking maybe 8# may get my cast out a little more. Not sure on the rod lenghts or actions. If quess what I'm looking for here is a set-up and see if I can match what I got to it. Or upgrade to something better later on and turn these old rods and reels into catfish rods.

Ok I like the looks of the St Croix rod mentioned above. Now What reel should I be looking at. I have a few older Bantam made reels for Shimano in the 5.3 ratio. I would like to use that one for a little while and look into a new reel for the new rod. I like the Lew's Speed spool reels not super pricey but seems to be a real good reel. I'd like to keep the reel in the 130 dollar or so mark so that I could get away with a dedicated rod/reel for under 270-300 mark.

What does the firetiger color mimic. I see most all crankbiat makers and models have a firetiger color. Never seen anyone fishing one. Is this color maybe not a fav. of LMB fishers?

I got a Strike King ti A-rig umberlla 5 wire set-up. I'm running a 3/16" strike king jig head with zoom swimmin super flukes in whitepearl. I'm wondering what type rod would be the best to work this bait with. I have a Shimano flipping stick with a Shimano Black Magnum baitcast reel the one with the fighting drag switch. It is my dads old flipping rod and reel from the late 80's I'd say. I also have a new Shimano Crucial rod MHF 7' with a Lew's 7.1 speed spool reel on it. These are the best options I think I have. I have both loaded with #12LB trilene mono. Do you guys think one of the two rods would be ok for this heavy of a bait. The flipping rod state up to 2oz lure on the rod. Also any hints about fishing a a-rig would be nice. this is my first time out with one.

Back when he fished these we where in clear water on Lake Lanier, GA. Now I'm fishing on Lay Lake, AL the water is not as clear but not stained to bad. I think I'm going to pick up a few of the shallow runners. And also try out a couple of the KVD 1.5's.

My dad used to use the 5'-11' shad rap SR07 a lot. I'm learning to use crankbaits and not having any luck but just got starting to try them. When would the best time to use this bait. I have got about four different ones baby bass/shad/glas blue shad & a glass chartreuse shad. Most of the other crankbaits I have are the deeper running Bagley's BIII and a couple of Mann's 30+ cranks. All of these are older baits from the late 80's. I don't any newer style ones like squarebills. I guess my ? is if you where triing to catch fish on a Shad Rap SR07 how and when would you use them? And is there a way to make them run as shallow as possible?

Not likely to teach anyone anything soon. I havn't fished for a long time for bass anyway. My dad and I fished a good bit back in the 80's. We lived the GA and fish Lake Lanier a good bit. Can't name the area we fish but it was something ( ???? Creek) we got there off of 985 in the Gainsville area I think. I can remember it was hard fishing on that lake. We have family in Alabama and fish the alabama river around the Selma area when we would come home. I caught more bass on the river than Lake Lanier. Most my bass I've caught have been on a T-rigged plastic worm. Have landed a few here recently on a white spinnerbait with one willowleaf blade and one coloardo blade.

I've been away from fishing for a long time. When my dad and I fished I used swivels so I could change out baits easier. I still find my self wanting to tie on a swivel on everything other than my t-rig's. I mostly use the smaller ones for smaller lures and bigger one for bigger baits like spooks/spinner baits/ and crankbaits. Now that I'm back into fishing I was wondering if using a swivels may change the way the lure aacts in the water. On topwater plugs and frogs The onl thing I see is the extra weight weighing them down some mostly on hollow body frogs. So my ? is when do you guys use swivels veruses tieing direct to a bait or the split ring on the bait.

My dad lost a Shimano fight rod and a shimano black magnum reel back in the mid 80's. We were fishing three people in the 19' astro glass fish and sky combo. My dad up front my uncle in the back and me in the middle. As my dad and I both went to cast my dad puased and the treble hook on his shad rap hooked into the end eye of the rod. Note my dad had lost his ring finger on his casing hand. As he went to make the cAst ther rod just rolled right out of his hand. I heard the spalsh right at the side of the boat and notice what had happened and I went in right behind it. Itouched the grip of the rod but at the same time my dad grabbed my by waist of my pants so I didn't go over borad as we where in a stump bed. I still think I could have caught that rod. But better safe than sorry. Needless to say my dad went and bought a exact mact rod and reel that night. We where at a family easter weekend trip at a rented lake house, we had brought the boat and gear from Atl. GA. and the lake was Lake Martin in Alabama.
