  1. My lake and river is muddy! Probably a foot of visibility at most, sometimes less. Ive been reading up on cold muddy water Bass fishing, and its COMPLETELY different than clear cold water fishing. The Bass are not as comfortable that deep when the water is dirty, because they like to be acute to their surroundings. Like us in a dark room, we feel a wall to find a light, Bass do the same in familiar shallow areas. ALSO, apparently, Bass are attracted to rain water runoff that is warmer than the river or lake water.Only if the air temperature was warm enough to make the rain water warm. If so, This will have Bass congregate in the shallows. Another thing is boulders that are shallow enough to pick up sunlight, and they will give off heat to the water! How cool ! I know of a spot that has both boulders on the bank, and runoff, so I will try it tomorrow. Let you know how it goes!
  2. Ive read multiple things about Bass feeding in Winter, and some say they don't feed at all or barely at all. Either way I think we can all agree they don't eat as much. So,why do we always hear about fishing SLOW,LIGHT,AND DEEP? If Bass arent eating real food, why in the world would they eat a lure?? So, how do you catch them? I was reading this article from Hank Parker(http://www.bassresource.com/hank-parker-fishing/reaction-baits.html) and he says that when Bass are not in a mood to eat, sometimes the only way to get them to strike is to use their predatorial instincts. Suprise them, scare them, make them curious. I think this makes more sense as opposed to tempting lures like dragging a jig, shaky head, drop shot. These are all lures that dont just pop up on the Bass and they can see them and criticize them befroe they go past them. So i figure, why not use the same techniques Hank speaks of in his article, but in deep water??Guess where the fish are holding, which direction they're facing, and then slow roll a spinnerbair or crankbait. But bring it from behind the Bass to the front of the fish that way it suprises them and they strike out of impulse.Just something to think about, any suggestions? Tyler
  3. 1.When you catch a Bass, feel its tummy. If it feels hard,he may be eating Crawdads, but if its soft it might be fish. Another tip i can give you is to google different kinds of baitfish(Crawdads,Bluegills,Sunfish,Shiners,Minnows,Alewives,Blueback Herring,Gizzard Shad). Print out pictures of all these fish and hang them on your wall. Study them and look at them every day. Next time you are out on the lake, you should be better equipped to tell which baitfish they are, AND you will be better at matching your lures to baitfish colors(if fishing clear water). Good luck buddy. Tyler
  4. How will I know if im on the roadbed. I tried finding the creek channel while bank fishing the dam wall, and its hard to tell.Everything just feels rocky!! Thanks for the info ill try those and let you know!
  5. The main forage is Shad, but i havent seen any in weeks! Are they dying? I like your tip cabout fishing the vertical structure at an angle rather than a straight up and down retrieve. Ive never fished to the east of the dam boat ramp, maybe i will try that! Thank you for your tips Tom!
  6. By resinger road boat ramp?? Thanks for your advice sir
  7. I am fishing for Bass in 44 degree F water, and we haven't had any ice yet,but it is cold. I have a lake and a river I fish, and they are both pretty muddy. For the past month i havent seen almost any baitfish, Jumping Bass, or any signs of life. Ive fished the dam, creek arms, steep ledges, and most of the lake is rocky bottom. We have no vegatation. Ive used various lures, and ive done everything from dead still to burning a spinnerbait. My question is where are fish in this cold water? I would say we are in a winter pattern now because ive seen no baitfish. Does anyone have any experience fishing lakes with no vegatation in cold water?? Thanks-Tyler. P.S i am fishing from the bank and my lake has a topo map.
  8. Hey I have a challenge for y'all. Hopefully this gets your fishing brain going.here it is: 1.Pick 3 baits that you have or have not caught fish on. 2.analyze this bait. I want you to think about A. What are you trying to imitate with this bait? B.what similarities does the bait share with the real thing? C. Differences between the real and fake? D.what situation would you use it in,and this is key-Why!! Here's an example, and this is my opinion,so I'm not claiming I state facts Plastic worm with a curly tail 1. Imitation- a fish, particularly a Bluegill. The reason I say Bluegill and not a shad or minnow is because of the Bluegills large flowing dorsal fin. I don't think a ribbon tail depicts a minnow or a shad because those fish have more subtle fins 2.similarites: tail(fin) has lots of action and is always moving. Has slender shape. 3.differences: bluegill has a large body compared to any worm, yet is still thin. 4.situation-when bass are not actively feeding and the Bluegill are active(or are at least in the area). I think a Bass could be resting but if he sees a Bluegill just sliding along just minding his own,his natural instinct is to strike! However I would not use this bait when bass are active because they will probably be focusing on the surface or what's right in front of them,no what's on bottom(which is where I would fish a worm). Ok think hard about this!
  9. I recently read an article on how pro bass fisherman Ish Monroe said that straight shank work hooks have betting hooking percentages than offset wide gaps.when I Texas rig my worms on both of these hooks,I do not see a considerable difference in hook exposure we the worm is pressed on.i do not understand what makes a straight shank have a better hooking percentage than an offset
  10. I understand where you all are coming from.this isn't a 100% thing,I realize.However I think it's important to consider everything
  11. I want to buy a rod that I really like but I don't know if Microguides are good for me.can some of you share an experience you have had with them and your thoughts on Microguides? Also what line you used would be helpful.thanks.
  12. Let's say you walk to your fishing spot and you check the sky.if it's cloudy and grey and little sunshine is hitting the water, would you make a mental note that Bass will be more active? Or if it was a cloudless day and the sun couldn't be more exposed, would you then think that Bass would be closer to cover? I read in a article in Bassmaster where a professional was talking about the sky.he said since it was a cloudy day that fish would be more active. But I have to think-this does male sense.with more light in the water,Bass might be more cautious of their surroundings and be more comfortable near hiding where as on a cloudy day with less light in the water, bass might feel more free to roam.thoughts or comments?
  13. I like a buzz bait, the vibrations can grab their attention from a distance.
  14. I like the way they look and behave, and how aggressive they are,but I will pursue other fish too.Bass are fun!
  15. I fish everything on my Bass pro shop rod, flipping cover, casting a crank bait, and dragging a jig.but today I broke one of the guides, as bass pro will take it back for a new one.anyway I want to get a new rod that is good all around and is really tough. Tips?
  16. Today I was dragging a finesse jig across some rocks and I realized that I wouldn't know if I had a bite because the rocks feel similar to a bite. How would I know if a Bass picked up my lure during a drag??
  17. http://www.bassmaster.com/node/98650 havent tried out my 12" worms very much yet,I cant honestly say. Here is a cool article on fishing monster worms, the reason I even tried any. The link is from bassmaster.com
  18. Hey you can call me Tyler and I love to fish.at the moment,my favorite lure is a fire tiger crankbait-to me it looks like a Bluegill.i live on the border of Ohio/Kentucky, and like to fish both states.my favorite spots are Cumberland River,Little Miami River, and East Fork lake. I found this site from watching a video on spinnerbaits by the Glenn .i use foourocarbon line on a baitcaster but have been getting backlashes. My favorite thing about fishing is when you take a break from the fish, and finally realize that you are surrounded by beauty-ha deep! C ya later!
