  1. I would use zoom super chunk standard/jr or reaction innovations beaver. Both are subtle on the fall. A beaver will give your bait a nice gliding action on the fall. Perfect for lethargic bass.

  4. For spinning, 15 lb braid with 8 lb flouro leader. My preference is power pro and seaguar invisix. For casting, 12-15 lb copolly. My preferance is mccoys. Xtra clear or mean green.
  5. I use 10 lb the majority of the time. Either copolly or flouro. I dont throw much of a jerkbait late season, I usually switch to a fluke for then. So my setup is dedicated to Jerkbaits almost exclusively. So that's why I can get away with just the flouro. Usually seaguar invisix or mccoys xtra clear copolly.

  7. St Croix avid X w/ shimano curado I or a lightly used dobyns champion 734/735 pending on weight range you plan on throwing.
  8. So I've started dropshotting more and am making a dropshot specific setup. Up north here I have had the opportunity to fish various depths drop shotting, from shallow water to 40-50ft deep up at Lake Erie. I know it's preferance, but I want your opinion on line choice. Is there a certain depth that influences you to choose straight flouro vs braid with flouro? Or is it water clarity? I would be happy to hear what you use to dropshot with, line wise, and a justification as to why you choose that. Thanks in advance!
  9. My favorite so far to this day has been a St Croix Avid X 6'8 MXF. Perfect rod IMO. Plus can't beat their customer service if something were to go wrong.
  10. My favorites are the shimano stradic ci4+ 2500. Hands down.
  11. If you can wait, I would wait for the 15-20% off sale at TW and pick up a St Croix Avid X.

  15. I know it was not mentioned, but for that price I would look for a lightly used St Croix Avid 7' MHM. I love mine for those mid diving plugs. Great blank and the best customer service in the business.
  16. If the seller is a reputable seller, then I would jump on the ci4. They are one of the best spinning reels for the money IMO. I love mine. Like others have said, it's hard to find one on sale or dicounted, new in box.
  17. I've had a 6'6 MF for a few years which I have always liked, but this past year I picked up a 6'8 MXF and had good success with that too. I honestly can't say I prefer one over the other. Both work for me, but don't have in enough time on the water to make a definitive choice.
  18. X2 this would be my choice. You can get one in good condition for under 75. True workhorse.
  19. I use flouro the majority of the time. 15-20 lb pending on the structure. Open water dragging, 15 lb. Brush/laydowns, usually 17-20.

  21. I prefer mhm when fishing squarebills because I tend to fish them around cover. So I want the added power to get them out.
  22. Hey everyone. Big fan of St croixs avid and avid X line up. I am looking for a review on the 7'4 Heavy in the Avid X line up. I own s couple 7' MH in the original avid line up and like most know, they tend to be on the stiff side. I want to know if the Heavy power in this new series is a broomstick or more moderate. I have no way of getting my hands on one before I purchase. Any advice or review on this rod would be appreciated even if u have only just held one in hand. Once again, I am already a huge fan of the avid X series so I know quality and performance I am getting, just need some help with this model. Thanks!
  23. I have had decent luck with them. Most success seems to come throwing them raged rigged.
  24. X2. I have a St croix avid X 6'8 MXF and absolutely love it. Perfect for small topwater a and Jerkbaits!
  25. Both great reels. I would have to agree with Blue that the I feels a little smoother and "tighter" as far as the gearing. Both built like tanks. Can't go wrong with either. But for the going price I would defiantly go for the I. You can pick one up for 120-130 new, where as a slightly used 200e will push you 175-200. Just my opinion.
