Is It Worth Buying A Down Scan Fish Finder For A Kayak?
I have been looking inot a fish finder for my kayak but i feel like a down scan finder might not evan be worth buying for a kayak. The side scan fish finders are so much more expensive though. Having one in a boat seems like its alot more effective since you can cover more water at a faster pace. I fish mostly shallow water along the bank so a side scan seems like it would be more useful for a kayak. Are there alot of folks out there that use down scan finders for your kayak?do you find them useful/effective?

Baitcasting Setups For Beginners?
Im also still pretty new to baitcasters. I have found it easier to cast with a reel that has both cent&mag brakes. My reel has 4 cent brakes and so far i keep them all on and the fine tune dial about halfway and adjust the spool tension knob whenever i switch baits. I have also found it alot easier to cast with braided line. Definitely also want to make sure you use a good technique and to make sure you are releasing at the perfect time. For me i have found that having a good technique and good timeing on your release is the biggest key to a good long accurate cast. Evan if all your brakes are tuned perfectly for your particular lure but you dont have good timeing down on your release your lure isnt going anywhere. Youll end up casting a line drive landing 6 ft in front of you with a birds nest. Good luck.

New Guy. Question About Early Spring Fishing A Pond
If the water only ends up being a few feet deep. Say 5-6 feet, could bass not survive in water that shallow?

New Guy. Question About Early Spring Fishing A Pond
You got it, cobb brook. Very small. I have plenty of other places to fish around here. How many bass would i need to catch and release in my pond to start a little population?

New Guy. Question About Early Spring Fishing A Pond
I plan on buying some waders and walking out there to find out the depth for sure. I did try throwing a weighted jig out there yesterday and as soon as it hit the water it didnt take anymore slack from what i could tell. So im thinking its pretty shallow. I swear though as a kid i remember being out there on the ice one winter and sticking a long branch into the water and it being pretty deep. There is vegetation growingin and around the water. Especially in the summer time it turns into a forest out there. Any map i look at weather on paper or on a gps system the pond is nameless so i dont see why the pond would be stocked when it doesnt evan have a name. Here are a few pictures of the pond. New Guy. Question About Early Spring Fishing A Pond
So i fished the pond again today, for about 4 hours total. Not one bite. I threw out some bread pieces and nothing but little turtles bit at them, but i did see some bait fish up close to the shore floating around in the sunny areas. So i know there are bait fish in there and there are turtles, but still no sign off bass since last summer. I evan sprayed every lure i used with some scented spray that is supposed to attract bass. Still no luck. Did not get a chance to try live bait will probably do that tomorrrow. I did not get a chance to take the water temperature but it still feels pretty cold to the touch. I could not determine how deep the water was out towards the middle but about 20-30 feet out i could still spot the bottom. So im assuming it may not be that deep out there. maybe the water is just too cold still? We did have a very late winter in MA and only had a few 60-65 degree days so far.

New Guy. Question About Early Spring Fishing A Pond
Im from taunton, MA. About 30 mins south of boston. I am going to head outside now and try the bread thing. Im not exactly sure how deep it is. I will try and take an estimate. I really hope there is more bass in there, it would be awsome to walk right out to my backayrd and fish every day. I will keep you posted after another day of fishing out there.

New Guy. Question About Early Spring Fishing A Pond
Hey all. Im new here my names kyle. I have been fishing all my life but just really started getting into fishing lures about a year and a half ago. I have had done decent so far. I live in massachusetts so i do my fishing in spring, summer and fall. No winter fishing for me. So i have a question about pond fishing. I have this pond in my backyard, very isolated have never seen anyone fish this pond the past 18 years i have lived here. The reason for this is because there is no way to get to it because its surrounded by woods, thorns, brush and there are no paths. The only way to this pond is through my backyard and it is very hard to reach. There is a stream that eventually leads to a very big river, there are parts of the stream that are very shallow like a foot or less deep so i always assumed there were no bass in this pond. I decided last year to give it a shot. I cleared out a bunch of crap fished for about an hour and landed a very small large mouth. Probably about 1 pound, caught it on a little wooden floater. Kept going for about a week after that with no luck until i gave up and started fishing my normal spots again. I decided to try again a few days ago. Cleared out a bunch of crap and have been fishing this spot for the past 4 days with not evan a bite! Used everything from the wooden floater i caught one on last year, crank baits, spinner baits, soft jerk baits, swim baits and yamamoto senko worms. I doubt this pond has ever been stocked but i dont know this for a fact. Its not like its some big public fishing hole. Im wondering if maybe they are not biting because its not warm enough yet? I know you can still catch bass when its cold out but maybe im not getting bites because they are not as active yet. The water is stil pretty cold. We had a late wonter in new england and a pretty bad one at that. We have had like four 65ish degree days in a row but night time it cools off alot. maybe this one baby bass i caught was just one that wondered off got lost and might have died out or somthing. Is it likely that bass would swim up this very shallow long stream to get to this pond? Or maybe since i caught this one bass last year there must be more i just suck at fishing? Sorry if this sounds like a unch of stupid questions. Im still a noob and dont want to waist my time building a dock and clearing out brush to fish my backyard if there are no fish to catch. Thanks for any advice/opinions anyone can give

New To The Forum And New To Baitcasters
My reel has the spool tension knob, then on the opposite side another knob numbered 1-10, then when you take the side plate off on that same side it has a switch numbered 1-4. These are the centrifugal breaks right? What ones are the magnetic breaks? Or do reels have either one or the other? Taking the advice from john g i just took my pole out and did a bunch of casts making sure that i release my thumb at about the 2oclock position and my casts are getting more toawds 20 yards then 10. So im assuming i was either releasing my thumb too early or too late because before my cast was more of a line drive and now im getting a little more arc on the cast and it seems to be casting alot farther.

I have an abu garcia vendetta pole 6'6". Medium heavy, extra fast action, my reel is a bass pro brand. And i have been practicing with a half ounce weight. Like i said i have been making short casts pretty good with no backlashes, but as soon as i try to cast harder to get farther, or if i turn the spool tension down it seems to be backlashing towards the end of my cast.

Yea what am i kidding 30 yards. More like 10 yards. Man ive been messing with this baitcaster for about a week now and cant seem to cast more then 10 yards. Ive messed around with the settings tried tunning everything, tried different settings. And cant cast this thing longer then 10 yards if that. Am i doing something wrong?

New To The Forum And New To Baitcasters
Hello everyone. Just decided to join this forum because im still somewhat new to bass fishing and figure i can learn alot from here. So all my life i have used spinning reels. I just recently picked up my first baitcaster and having a little trouble with it. So i got the cast down pretty good, not the best obviously but can cast without getting a backlash about 80% of the time. The problem i am having though is when i try to make a long cast. Right now i am making shorter casts maybe 20-30 yards. But when i try to cast any further i get backlashes. I have watched alot of youtube videos and messed around with the settings on my reel. Still cant seem to do a long cast though without backlashing. With the weight i tied on to practice with i did adjust the reel(turning the spool tension all the way up and adjust it until your lure falls to the ground without getting a backlash). The reel i have has 4 breaks(the ones under the removable plate)i have 2 on right now. The knob you use to tune those has a setting of 1-10 i have mine on 5. To get a longer cast do i need to be focusing on adjusting the magnetic breaks?the the spool tension knob?do i need to do something else with my thumb? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
