Hello-just signing in to say hello to everybody. My name is Doug Mackey. I'm from Polk City, Iowa. I am a 6th grade teacher in my 30th year of teaching. I have been fishing since I was a kid (I'm 55) but really seriously for the last 30 years. Once I landed my first teaching job and could afford a boat, better tackle and such, I began fishing hard. I am a converted walleye fisherman. I chased walleyes for many years and still do on occasion,but really prefer bass fishing. On a trip to Minnesota many years ago I was turned on to a small lake with smallies in it. We had a great couple of days of great success. I have loved smallies ever since. The lakes I live near have nice populations of largemouth with a few smallies sprinkled in. I get up to Rainy Lake Minnesota/Canada each summer so I do get a nice dose of smallies during that week. I look forward to getting to know the members on this site.

I am looking at putting together my own bass jigs (football, swim, etc.). Not sure I want to buy molds and totally start from scratch. I used to pour and paint jigs back when I fished mainly for walleyes. I'm still sitting on hooks and molds from those days. I wondered if anybody has a source of unpainted bass jigs with weedguards. I can paint and I want to mess around with skirts. Need something to keep me busy until we get open water again.
