  1. I've never fished the avid so I can't comment. I've never been a huge st. Croix fan though. Not saying anything is wrong with them I just don't have much experience. I really suggest you at least take a look at the Dobyns champion series, or wait and see what the fury line is like. Is there any way you can head to cabelas and hold both the st. Croix and the e6x side by side? That may be your deciding factor.
  2. Both are versatile reels but if you're looking for casting distance the bb1 pro casts further. I can let you know how it holds up after I get some time on the water with it.
  3. I just felt the G-loomis E6x and its a great rod, definitely a step above the GL2. If you can spring for an extra $30 get the dobyns champion 683sf or better yet 704sf. -Matt
  4. I just got the bb-1 pro, haven't fished it yet but it's SWEET. I've played with the lite before and like it as well. If you're using it for cranks/jerkbaits I'd go with the bb1-pro. You really can't go wrong, both reels are top notch. -Matt
  5. I think I'm gonna go with a tournament pro, a bb1, and 2 tatulas, or maybe one tatula and one tatula R. In getting the tatulas for $130 so I can't really go wrong as from what I'm hearing they're well worth the $200. Thanks everyone!
  6. Thanks for the replys. Now what about the tournament pro? I'm fairly new to baitcasters, while I know how to cast I still get backlash every once in a while. Will I fare better with the dual brake system of the tournament pro? Or will the centrifugal brakes of the bb1 pro and tatula be better?
  7. I'm getting 4 new casting combos and I'm torn between the tatula and bb1 pro. Either reel I decide on will be sitting on Dobyns champion series rods. Can anyone that's used both give me some insight on the pros and cons of each? Does it come down to just personal preference? Should I go with 2 of each? Thanks -Matt
  8. Okay so I'm new to pouring my own jigs but I got tired of buying them every week fishing in heavy cover so I figured I'd save money making my own. Today I poured over 100 arky style jigs and I poured with the weed guard in. I think that's where I screwed up because I found out the weed guards warp when I went to hear them for paint. How should I go about painting them now? Can I remove the weed guard, paint, and then put the weedguard back in with super glue? As you can imagine it took a lot of time to our all these so I'd like to salvage them. Thanks in advance. -matt
  9. I'm surprised no one has mentioned REINS bubbly shaker worms. These are by far the best drop shot worm I've ever used. The action on them is incredible. Either green pumpkin/silver flake, solid green pumpkin, or ghost pro blue. If I'm out of those then I also like KVD dreamshots in the same colors I mentioned above. Tight lines!
  10. Ice fishing. obviously I didn't mean that. I'm just saying it seems like co anglers are looked down upon and I don't think its right. I've read horror story's from both sides of it.
  11. I'm fishing as a co angler this year and I plan on offering gas money and coffee, as well as do what I can to help out. I've been reading through this thread and to be honest it almost makes me not want to fish. It seems like a lot of boaters see co anglers as second class angler and that's not right at all. I have the same right as a boater to be fishing. I pay $500 entry fees per event, and people are saying I should keep my mouth shut? It's not cheap for me to fish, yes it may be more for a boater, but nonetheless I still have to pay a large amount. I treat everyone with upmost respect when I meet them, but if a boater if blatantly disrespectful and treats me like crap I can promise that neither of us will have a good day. Having a boat doesn't make you a better angler then I. Why do people think it's even remotely acceptable to treat a co angler like they're less then a boater? Tournament rules REQUIRE that a boater needs a co angler. If I don't fish neither do you. All I keep reading is what we must do for the boater and we're lucky to be there at all. I believe in respect but I'm not the boaters servant. I don't owe the boater anything but my respect, me giving my boater gas money is me being courteous. If I'm treated like scum from the start you really think I should or would still give you gas money? It should be a mutual respect. You signed up to be a boater knowing what it entails. I own a boat and I never expect anything from a guest that I invite. I'm not a charter. I'm fishing as a co angler because I want the experience in tournament fishing before I fish as a boater. Am I wrong for all that I've said? If I am please explain.
  12. I have an old v hull row boat that I'd like to put a deck, steering console, and trolling motor on. It has a small leak somewhere along the rivets. Is it possible to fix? Is there some kind of sealer you guys can recommend? Am I just wasting my time? I have a lot of the supply's for building the deck and everything so I'm trying to make due.
  13. If money was no object and you could only have one combo, what would it be? and why?
  14. Hey guys, new to the forum but I'm in Danbury and fish candlewood regularly. I'm 21 and would love the chance to meet some new fishing buddies with the same addiction as I.
  15. Hey everyone, my name is Matt. I'm 21 and have been an avid bass and trout angler since I was a kid. I've been browsing this site for close to a year and decided to finally join in on the action. Born and raised in CT, but I've moved around these past few years with school from North Carolina to Florida. I'm done with school so I'm back in CT. I'll be fishing the FLW northern rayovacs this year and a few BFL's and local tournaments.
