  1. I fish in an old gravel pit, the water has good clarity, if it hasn't came a flash floods and put a lot of runoff in it the visibility is around 4-5 feet but after long rainy periods it will get to about a foot. I fish from the bank so I'm not sure how deep it is, but even a few feet off the bank I can fish a crankbait that dives to 6' and it doesn't hit bottom until about 3-4 ft from the bank. I've heard one guy say it was only 5' at the deepest but several others have said that it's over 30'. It really doesn't have much cover, the bottom is real sandy too. It has a little bit of grass in spots but it's not thick, looks more like snot when it comes out on my bait. There's several places where there's trees laid over in the water, the landowner had cut down some small trees and threw them in mainly along the bank in about 5 or 6 spots. But I usually catch the bass on a Berkely Powerbait red eye shad 3 inch. Last week I caught them on an orange rooster tail and a Booyah Pond Magic spinnerbait in Red Ant. I'm not sure why the reds and oranges are working this time of the year but you have to get out there right around sunrise because around 9:30-10 it's already 90°F with heat index of 100. That's the bad thing about living in Southeast Louisiana, it's way to hot in the summer but at least the fishing is still good in December and January.
  2. I was wondering if the same thing but I fish from the bank so I guess I would have to use Josh's method...but I was wondering if there was a way to get a rough estimate based on air temperature even if having to go back a few days and look at the highs & lows. Being in Louisiana we didn't have much of a winter this yr and the past few nights have been upper 50s n lower 60s & the highs have been mid to upper 70s
  3. I have an app on my phone called Sportsman Tracker, yesterday was supposed to be a 4 star day but I only hooked one then it took me in a downed tree n had my line all wrapped around the tree. The thing that makes it really disappointing was it was a Strike King PPJ in Texas Craw. When I got it from Hattiesburg, MS the cashier was more worried bout playing with watch instead of making sure that he scanned my items. I didn't notice it until I got home and to put the stuff in my tackle box n realized that the receipt didn't add up to the price I had in my head. I tried to it again on Wal-Mart app but it says sold out n status unknown the stores. I couldn't the 3/8oz on Amazon smallest had was 1/2oz n it is $9.30. Hopefully I can get one soon. Even tho I got way off subject that sportsman tracker, it calculates the Barometric pressure, skies, fog, light rain, temp, season, time of day, moon phase. I've looked at it b4 I went out today and as I said a 4 star day but I only got that one bite. Sometimes I think it's game of chance. They may help some
  4. Have you tried some of the canals back in Delta Farms. Me & my uncle used to go fishing back there bout 15 yrs ago (d**n can't believe it's been thought long). I was in Cut Off at my aunt n uncle's house over a yr ago n he told me that they shut down the boat ramp at Cloverly due to something bout the rd. Have u also tried Bayou Lafourche? I'm not sure what is in there anymore. I wish I had some pics of the reds n trout we used to catch in Delta Farms. I'm sure that of em would take u for a ride on a paddleboard. That's the places I think of in the Terrebone/Lafourche area. Maybe that can help u out a lil.
  5. Here's what I caught today but lost a 6lber lol
  6. That's so true bout Louisiana seasons. I've been fishing all yr long last year. I even went a few days ago to a friend's pond and caught 2 white crappie but being I was going for bass I let the guys live another day even after putting em on the stringer just in case I caught a bass or 2 or 5 lol. But last February I saw bass sitting on beds so they spawn pretty early in the yr here. Actually bout to go to see if I can catch anything now. I'll update later when I get back. Update on fishing trip today...I caught one lil fella on a red eye shad pearl white n that was bout 10 mins after being there. Then I tried several beetle spins 1/4oz n nothing. So bout 20 mins til 3 I put on a zoom mag II green pumpkin, I got a bite but didn't set the hook good, so that 6lber got away lol. The one I did catch was maybe a lb..pic attached...won't let me attach n it's 148k but getting error saying it has to be 153.8k
  7. I wonder if they have any on the Northshore. I know the week b4 Christmas I was fishing in a t-shirt n wasn't cool at all and I caught 9 on 2 different days. But this week mother nature ain't wanting to cooperate bc I hate wearing a bulky jacket while fishing
  8. @Catt on the the places is an old gravel pit & lugging an ice chest up some of those bluffs would be almost impossible. I always bring a 5 gallon bucket with me n that can be difficult I wish I had a pic of my hot spot. But it's a steep climb. Supposed to be going to lake pontchartrain today so I'm sure we bringing an ice chest even tho we fishing off the piers.
  9. Washington Parish. It's mostly rural area and has Mississippi border on 2 sides. As my son said when he was bout 6 "we live in the big toe of the boot daddy"
  10. I'm one of the unlucky ones that has to fish from the shore in mainly private ponds of family friends. I guess I can't complain since I've managed to put fish in the pan but my question is how do I keep my fish alive if I would happen to catch a cpl in the 1st hour or so & I plan on making an all day adventure out of it. I have a 25' stringer that I use. I've recently read some articles & found out I been doing it wrong. Should I go from inside of mouth thru bottom lip or from outside to inside? I have been catching bass but no monsters yet, keeping fingers crossed tho. They have been in the 1.5 to 2.5 range. I don't want to end up killing em b4 I get home, so what is best way to use a stringer & not have dead fish when my day is done. Oh to make sure that they stay in fairly deep water I put the stringer in the ground as close to the water as possible without taking the chance of em pulling it out off the ground. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, Geoffrey.
