  1. Mainly fish the reservoir and sethers pond for convenience, I live really close to them. I hear a lot about bubble falls in oakdale Sayville area. A lot of trout and large mouth. Lake Ronkonkoma has some decent fishing to I hear but its really busy over there. I am gonna head out east on my next day off. There is a couple ponds in middle island that have some good activity I think its artist lake. Yaphank has a nice size pond, upper Yaphank lake, I went fishing out there 2 years ago but there is very little shore access but you can rent a row boat. I think Im gonna try that but my fishing partner (my son) is 5 and I'm not sure how well he will take being on a boat and fishing. Blydenburg lake in smithtown, last time I fished there was 2 years ago, decent size large mouth bass, you can rent a boat but you have to pay for parking. that's another option. I hear they have some good activity there to. I do have to spread out a little more and explore other options of where to fish.
  2. I live in long island, Massapequa reservoir off sunrise highway has a lot of bluegill sunfish trout and supposedly catfish. they say there is bass, have been fishing for awhile there haven't caught anything. Sethers pond in west Babylon has blue gill trout sunfish, haven't caught anything there.
  3. a lot of good information. Impaling through the mouth is a lot better than through the spine on a bluegill fish will live a lot longer and wont get the ethics committee coming at you.. lol. unless you plan on eating the blue gill
  4. What's the tape method? Sorry if I'm asking for a lot but I'm new to bait casting

  6. I really appreciate the help... I will continue reading and learning as much as I possibly can from this site.
  7. I was just gifted an Abu Garcia Rod and Reel combo bought by my wife for my first bait caster. From what I can tell she bought me it from one of the chain sporting goods stores, starts with a D. I was wondering how to set it up, what type of line, what should I put on the line (weights/hooks/swivels). I'm pretty new to fishing and I don't have that much experience. I fish from the shore so far in 2 different ponds in long island, NY. The main pond I fish at is pretty shallow 3 ft- 7ft in some areas and water is pretty clear with some weeds stumps and rocks. They say the pond has blue gill, trout (stocked), black bass, pickerel, and maybe some other odds and ends. I haven't caught very much from there and want to maximize my chances. Any help would be very much appreciated. 8. Hello, I thought my first post should be me introducing myself. Well I'm a 29 year old male who currently lives in Long Island, NY. I don't have that much experience fishing except when I was in my early teens fishing in Lake Havasu, AZ with my Grandfather. I decided to get back into fishing with about a year ago with a 20 dollar bass pole I picked up in a local bate and tackle shop. I don't catch very much, probably because I am not that good at it. I have a 2 year old daughter and my fishing buddy is my 4 year old son. He really likes fishing with his little Iron Man fishing pole and cant actually cast pretty well, he's only hooked me once or twice. We usually fish 2 local ponds so far that are supposedly stock with trout and you might catch some blue gills, pickerel, and maybe some bass if your lucky. This really isn't the type of fishing I have done before, in AZ we would fish off a pontoon boat and here its mostly shore fishing unless I hop on a charter boat. Recently I was gifted a Abu Garcia bait cast reel which will be my first Bait caster, that should be fun. well anything else you wanna know just ask and I hope to hear from you.
