If you are in a smaller boat, like a kayak, the western part of the lake is much more peaceful and calm. We are early in the season yet, but the power boaters and jokers on waverunners pretty much own the rest of the lake during the summer months on the weekends. The area west of Van Buren Township park all the way to the dam at Ford Lake, in particular, is shallower and stumpy/weedy in parts. Larger boats tend to stay away, but the fish don't. There is a smaller DNR access ramp off Rawsonville Road that is ideal for smaller boats on the west side of the lake. The main DNR ramp in the City of Belleville is much busier (deeper waters) and is better suited for powerboats. Good luck!
