I cant get it to walk perfectly, but I still catch fish on it.

Dark colors for muddy water and light colors for clear water

Ask the guys at your local shop or talk to friends, because every body of water is different.

I'm assuming that with extreme fishing pressure bass will still eat but only at certain times of the day

Yes water will fill it up and eventually it will not float
