  1. Very good insight thanks for the reply!!!! i went with the 7' and took the 6'10 with the extra fast tip. I figured it was heavy action which I don't have and also the extra fast which I don't have. im curious to try the extra fast rip just not sure if that was the right choice? I def like a fast action rod. What do I gain and lose with the extra fast?
  2. Hey guys, looking to add 2 rods to my collection. i already have: 7'6 MH F 6'10 MH F spinnerbait specific. i am looking at buying used rods from someone in my area.(the older crucial) Is buying used rods a bad idea? Suggestions on what to look for or information I should know regarding wear and tear? heres a photo. I'm interested in the 7' MH F, and 6'10 H EXtra fast.. what would "specifics baits" be for those two rods? A 6'10 heavy Extrs fast must be a punch rod or jig rod? What about the 7'!?! help please!
  3. When would one choose a lipless over a lip crankbait? Isn't the purpose to deflect and cause a reaction strike. Won't you lose that with the lipless?
  4. I started using Senkos purely on a Texas rig. Then I started to experiment with Wacky. Honestly they both catch fish, but the Texas rig is weedless so why would someone want to throw it wacky and risk being caught up? like does anyone ever wacky still a creature plastic bait? just wanted to Clarify why I would use wacky over Texas rig. I like that Texas rig is weedless and also I find fish stay hooked up better on a EWG hook vs a wacky hook. thanks
  5. Does anyone know what size and specifications of the rod he uses to pitch a jig? ive seen him talk about a few different set ups. Does he use mostly a 7'? 7'11"? MH or H?
  6. Nice.. is using big braid to a Flurocarbon leader a good idea also? i usually put a leader of 12lbs fluro.. Sweet! Great advice!
  7. Nice. Definitely gonna give all those a try..!
  8. Hey guys, when searing for bass bass in early spring, is the chatterbait a good option or too fast and irratic? Same question regarding the spinner? Is one better than the other? i fish from the bank early on in the season before I go out on boat during the summer, so I like to stay away from throwing expensive cranks and losing them.. any plastic suggestions? Fishing for smallies and largies from the bank! basically I wanna cover as much water as I can till I locate bass.. I went out early last spring with little luck, maybe the water was just too cold for them to be too shallow. Did better on later in spring..! thanks
  9. It's been a long winter up here in the north. I'm excitingly anticipating the first cast of the season (a month and a half away or so) CAN'T WAIT! The tackle is organized, Rods and reels ready. Now it's more of the waiting game. You guys feel me? (Not the southern guys that's for sure) What to throw on the first cast? A plastic? A Jerkbait? A jig? A spinner? A crank? A lipless? Top water? Man, just throwing the line out is gonna feel good. Thanks for reading my rant. Hope I'm not alone!
  10. When selecting baits, is there really much of a difference? For example, would bladed baits and bright/black colours still be a good option for both? Or should there be a different approach for one or the other? Just wanted to "clear" this up!
  11. Hey guys, looking to get a new rod. I'm thinking something for pitching. Maybe a 7 foot or 7'3 in a heavy, fast action. I definitely want something with a good tip to feel bites.. would that be hard to find in a heavy action? suggestions? I have a budget of around $100. i already have a 6'10" Shimano MH Crucial (LOVE at his rod, great action and so sensitive) use this for an all around rod, have been using this for pitching when the covers not too heavy. i also have a 7'6" MH Abu Veritas 2.0, mostly use this rod for frogging and bank fishing for long casts.. tried pitching with this but I don't find it's very sensitive and hard to detect bites.... and it's do darn big! lemme know what I should look into!!! thanks
  12. Hey guys, Looking for some good search bait options for early spring! Water temp will be VERY cold, Like 45 degrees or so, and i will be fishing from the bank. I would like to use something that i can cover a lot of water to locate bass. Last spring it was very slow to catch em, and i'm thinkin maybe it was my bait/presentation.. fishing is mostly largies but smallies as well. Last sping I mostly used spinner baits and Vibrating jigs.. are there any better options? i feel like the jerkbait is good once bass are located but it can be slow to fan cast areas while moving quickly to find fish.. thanks!
  13. I definitely agree mid day during the much colder seasons (late fall and early spring) During the dog days of summer tho, I like the evening bite! Ive heard the morning bite is better tho because the water is cooler from the nighttime, before the water has the chance to heat up.. where as in the evening the water temp drops as the sun goes down but not as cold as the morn so the fish aren't as active.. But as I said, for me, some reason the 1hr to 45min before dark is so good to slay em, especially top water!
  14. Is fishing better in the morning or afternoon? My best results come in the evening. I rarely have the chance to get out first thing in the morning to fish, when I have it's definitely better than mid day, but not AS good as that sunset bite!
  15. Ya I guess breaking the rod is the only variable at that point.. I just wanted to know if anyone ever lost a fish because their tension was full and the bass basically went for a run and ripped his lip or what not...
  16. Early spring: Rapala DT in red devil craw colour. A jerkbait in spring in clear water. summer: black spinner bait or chartreuse chatter bait in dirty water ANY TIME: Tubes and senkos. morning and night: poppers
  17. Nice! What technique did you go with in that cold water???
  18. juicebass replied to CrustyMono's topic in Fishing Tackle
People say to use a Isn't said that in cold water it's better to use a bulkier trailer that doesn't have much action? I used a small trailer with a lot of action and it did very well, out fished my friend using a slower bulky profile.. it 42 degree water! So there ya go! That goes to show anything can work at any time basically
  19. Honestly tho, there's so many different types of tackle one would need to not be out on the water saying "***** I forgot that" or "dang I ran out of that"... I guess that's why it's always better to be safe than sorry!!
  20. Fishing for bass in Canada will put you on pike as well. And as for musky, you gotta be willing to spend thousands of dollars in gear- not to mention 8 hr trolling days to maybe Land 1. Not my kind of deal.
  21. Let's say.. someone is trying to figure out exactly how a reels max drag, and line size works in order to land a massive fish!? Example: if you have 65lbs braid and a reel drag of 13lbs or so, can you lock down the tension, hook the fish, and just horse him back to the boat? A big fish.. like a 10 pounder? I mean, you won't break him off right? Can you just start reeling him in non stop until the bass is in the boat? Is there actually a point in letting him try to take off line, or give him less tension to run? Playing or fighting the fish with that much reel Power and line strength would be pointless? i guess this is more a baitcast kind of question, because growing up using spinning reels and 6-8lbs mono, I've always let the fish tire out before landing it. But it seems as tho having "overkill" fishing gear can allow someone to just manhandle the bass back to the boat without the fear of break off.. a bait cast is a winch right? So if all math adds up.. you should be able to set the hook good, winch on him and reel away... thoughts?
  22. Wow! That DOES help! Haha, Smallies are prominent up here also, but looks like we will be heading for the Large mouth bite! Good to hear you didn't catch those smallies only off of a drop shot! Moving baits working, and working well by those pics!
  23. Montréal Canada to be exact! So, much higher north! Lol... what was the water temp? If it's similar I will definitely give those baits a toss then!
  24. Heading out for the last time of the year this weekend before the snow and ice arrive. Water is going to be 45 degrees. Any tips for baits? I think I'm gonna pitch pitch pitch, flip flip flip a jig all day. Honestly tho, should I incorporate a jerkbait or spinnerbait? Or anything else? i figure the water is gonna be fridgid and the bass are gonna want a bait they don't have to chase and something that will sit right in their face, so why not end the season with flippin' all day!! am I right?!
