New to swimbaits!
I think you should try spinner baits for power fishing bass. They are virtually weedless, can be fished fast or slow, and in any depth. Most of the bass I catch when casting and covering water is off spinner baits. For small mouth and largemouth. Honestly almost any species will hit a spinnerbait. Walleye, Pike, musky love em. I'm gonna try some swimbaits this summer but I have no confidence in them.. YET!

How often do you change lures?
If you're sight fishing for bed bass. I switch a bunch of times until I find something that irritates the bass the most. Then I pop it on his bed and bug him till he bites. But only for bed bass

One spinnerbait for shallow weedy lake
If your fishing shallow weeds like you're describing tho I would definitely give a buzz bait a go as well.

One spinnerbait for shallow weedy lake
Any strike King spinner will do well. If you're fishing for smallies, they LOVE black spinner baits with silver blades. The silver blades in the clear Water will attract the bass from far.

New to swimbaits!
The fluke is more like soft plastic jerk bait than a traditional swim bait. You pop them like a jerk bait, and let them sink during the pause almost like a senko. Un-weighted they will work best. You can even fish these top water and the tail will give an awesome action on the surface. You can fish it over pads and stop in holes and let it sink senko style, and prepare to get bit! Bass LOVE flukes. But ya fish it slow, it's ment to imitate a dying bait fish.

How often do you change lures?
If I'm power fishing, I will switch up a lure ever 15-20mins if I don't get a bite. Putting on snaps can help you switch out crankbaits or jerk baits quickly. If I'm pitching a flipping, I'm usually confident with the lure I pick, I honestly believe that most plastics and jigs will work the same, as long as the colour matches the water clarity. It's just a matter of putting the bait in front of the fishes nose, which can take time and patients. However, if I don't get bit, I either move on or try something a different. Throwing the same lure for an hour without a bite is an indication that bait isn't going to be hot. Or ur in a spot with no fish. if you're in a boat and have multiple rods, make sure u have multiple techniques that will work in the spot ur fishing. if your on shore, snaps can help. But ya, all in all switch it up every 20mins until u get bit... Once on a lure isn't a patern. But if u get bit twice on the same lure, that's a patern and stick with it until things dry up, or move on.

Heavy flipping hook vs Offset shank hook
Nice man! How did the set up work?? I tried rigging the snell knot up today and was wondering.. Do I put the bait all the way over the eye of the straight shank? Or do I just put it below on the keeper? I put a 1 1/2 tungsten flipping weight and it seemed to make my bait crooked. And It wasn't as straight as I can get it on a ewg hook. Thoughts? im worries to try the straight shank this coming season and miss some fish cuz I'm baiting the hook wrong..

Left handed vs right handed Baitcasters
Good topic. When I was about to purchase my first baitcast a few years ago I had this exact same question. I'm right handed and can turns out I can only fish with LH reels. Bait cast and spinning, for one it just feels right. But mostly I need to use a LH model because I get more power in the hook sets. Holding the reel in my strong hand gives me a more powerful hook set and more control over holding the rod. I've tried RH reels and holding the reel in my left hand gives me no power and feels super awkward for hook sets. I can do everything else until that point: (Cast-switch hands, reel) but I lost way too many fish setting the hook horribly because it's too awkward. A lot of the pros you see use RH reels because when they were growning up RH reels were more available and pretty much the only default reel side out there. i would strongly suggest if you are a right handed guy to buy a left reel. (If it feels right!)

Senko under a float?
Would you float a plastic creature bait?If a fish wonders by it, sure it might bite it. But a senko works best on the fall creating that reaction strike. If you wanna read a magazine or drink beer, im sure a floating senko can be used to be a throw it out and sit back bait. But in that case, real worms will probably work best.

Fluorocarbon leader length?
Hey guys, i spool up my reels with with braid (usually 30 or 65lb) i have been putting on fluorocarbon leader (I usually put it so I can reel the exact spot the lines are joined right before the reel) is this a good length for a leader? I've never had a problem with the line breaking at the connection between the two lines. Also, I would love to find out what to do in heavy vegitation situations? Do I throw a jig or punch plastic (1-1.5oz weight) direct on my 65lbs braid?! Or Do I put a fluro leader..? From what I understand it's best to throw it on straight braid for heavy cover.. But then I lose the advantage of the invisibility of fluro. some insight would be great. thanks!

summer spots
Great, to be honest most of my fishing is done from shore into slop-pads-weeds. When i get on a boat (2-3 a month) i usually stick to fishing the same kind of stuff.. never really tried fishing ledges or deep so i'm a newb for that.. but it seems most pro's fish deep and deep ledges and do very well finding BIG fish

summer spots
Hey guys, I was reading about Largemouth bass patterns and read that bass head down deep in the summer.. However i catch a lot of summer bass in pads and slop type areas that are shallow.. I feel like that's opposite of what I read in most places concerning largies and how they go down deep when the weather super hot. Any info or clarity on this would help! Thanks

Reel Drag per technique
Hey guys, Looking to get a look at what drags should be set on a baitcast reel and spinning reel for specific techniques. For example, I've heard a lot about setting the drag full for frog fishing. I've also seen that different applications require different settings. Can you share? Specifically looking for drag settings on baitcast for- 1-frogs 2-jigs 3-plastics 4-plastic craws 5-spinnerbaits 6-crank baits 7-swim bait 8-swim jig 9- top water 10-buzzbait Spinning set up for- 1- wacky rig 2 - drop shot 3- carolina rig 4- Etc... Looking to get some insight into what drags to set. Most times i feel lost on how tight to set the drag. Would love to learn some rules of thumb when it comes to specific techniques. Thanks!!

Drop shotting?
I see a lot of the pros caching fish with drop shots. Ive never really tried it other Than a couple times and I didn't catch anything. My question is how long do u cast it out and wait for a bite? Do the fish locate the drop short or do I have to locate the fish then use the drop shot? can it be use near weeds and pads? Usually I will use a senko or jig/plastics around these kinds of structures. im just wondering for the slow days if I should toss out a drop shot and read a magazine waiting for bass to bite..? Or do u recast it often/keep moving to find fish? I find it boring and hard to just leave a bait sit and not do anything... But if I catch fish then, I don't care what technique I use! thanks for ur input!

Suggestions for a frog/pitching rod n reel set up
Thanks for the info guys. Picked up the Revo sx in the 7.1.1 ratio. Also grabbed the Veritas 2.0 7'6" MH fast rod. I couldn't find the frog series but since I'll be frogging and some pitching i figured it would be a good balance to use it for both. Will probably look to get a big flipping stick and punching type set up in the future!
