My first bass came the summer after third grade. I had broken my arm on my birthday and was in a cast from the shoulder down on my left arm. My family and I were at our cottage on Wixom Lake in Michigan. I couldn't enjoy being in the water because of the cast so I stood on my side of the sea wall. (now comes the fun part) It had been raining heavily the past two or three days and the ditch beside the cottage that was now filled with water was draining into the lake right next to where I was standing. It must have been the seeds and things from the ditch because it was attracting everything and anything. I caught bullheads, northern pike, walleye, and yes BASS...this lasted from morning till late afternoon.....it was the perfect present for a skinny little 9 year old with a broken arm that had to sit out little league that summer......
